  1. Hey guys, I’m in the process of applying to the FNP program with WGU and I came across the program with UWF. Can you tell me, is the online UWF program competency based or is each course graded in the traditional format. Also, does UWF help with clinical placement to complete the 600 clinical hours. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. Like you eluded to, I figure it’s best to send as much information in the most organized fashion as possible. It would be a whole lot easier if the Provincial CONs would just accept that any degree deemed accredited in the USA would be fit for practice in the Canada…but that’s asking for too much from a Country who loves over-regulation ? In the end, I may decide against moving back for that reason. Thanks again for your info.
  3. Hey there, I’m resurrecting this older thread in hopes of getting some insight from you. Can you please tell me what you included in your NNAS application that helped you get comparable. I am a citizen of Both Canada and the United States. All of my nurse training (ASN and BSN) and work experience is from the states but I am considering applying for my Canadian license in case I move back to my hometown in Ontario. I saved all of my syllabuses from my BSN classes in preparation of submitting this application. Any insight that you could give me in How o should organize all of the supporting documents in my application would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Would you mind giving us an update on how the course is. How do you feel it is paced? Do you feel it is well organized? Is the content presented well throughout the course? How long do you expect it will take to finish in total? anyone else in the program please feel free to share your experience so far. thanks!!
  5. Congrats. I don’t have an answer for you but I was wondering if it is still a requirement for You to find your own preceptor/rotation hours for the WGU FNP program?
  6. You are awesome for coming back to post this info. Greatly appreciated! Yes, please let us know how the call goes and any other important info you might find out!
  7. Talk about it here so we can get some info too ?
  8. What state are you in? Have you been able to set up clinical placement with a preceptor without much difficulty? That’s my major concern..
  9. The responses from others regarding your comment/concern are spot on. I just wanted to echo that the competency based platform helps to hone in on areas Where there are gaps in knowledge while moving quickly through areas of competency. I felt I got a great deal out of my BSN degree from WGU even though I moved through it quickly. It maximized my time and was a very efficient way to learn in my opinion. Like others have said, the assessments and assignments weren’t easy in respect to showing competency. It is common to have assignments sent back for revisions because they hold tasks to a high standard when grading. I’m considering Going for the MSN at WGU in the future based on my experience with getting my BSN
  10. Pretests are necessary before attempting to take the objective assessments. Protests help you get understanding of where your knowledge base is in order to prepare you for the final objective assessment. If you fail the objective assessment you’ll have to complete remediation work before your course instructor will allow you to take a second attempt at it. In addition to objective assessments, you will have to complete PowerPoint’s, video demonstrations or teaching, and of course written papers throughout the program. It is competency based and self paced so if you are motivated you can complete it very quickly.
  11. Yes there are lots who I have spoken to who have their MSN from WGU and work as educators, in management, or informatics. Some have opened their own businesses as well.
  12. I would suggest upgrading to the BSN before doing the registration into Canada. That is my plan too. Also, I literally just completed my RN-BSN with WGU this past week. I put in a lot of time on my off shifts and I was able to complete the program in 3 months. I highly recommend it!
  13. I totally know what you are saying. I switched from the RN-BSN program to the RN-MSN leadership Program and then back to the RN-BSN program because I was undecided. While I like the idea of being an NP, I still see myself in leadership or teaching in the long run.
  14. How are you liking the leadership and management program? Do you regret going that route rather than just going straight from BSN to FNP?
  15. I’m located in Florida...
  16. I’m currently in the RN-BSN program at WGU and I am considering going for the FNP down the line. Attached is a section of the email they sent out with the list of current states.
  17. Thanks for the input! I ended up getting a TNCC manual and a TCRN Review book from my unit educator.
  18. Is there anybody else out there that is starting orientation today for classes starting on June 1?
  19. Hey Alan, Thanks for joining the convo. I dont have a whole lot of tips for you yet since I haven't quite started yet but I will keep you posted. Once you get your eval back I encourage you to question anything that doesn't look right. I didn't have any issues with my eval but it seems they are willing to look into it for you.
  20. I’m organizing all of my syllabuses from all my courses in the US to submit to NNAS to be assessed by Ontario CON. Does the NNAS or the CON require applicants to submit the course information from prerequisite courses (nutrition, anatomy, etc.) or just the nursing specific courses from nursing school?
  21. Hey there, I’m a new grad with about 3 months experience working in a level 2 trauma stepdown/PCU. Eventually I hope to transition into the trauma ICU. I was hoping to get book recommendations that have a trauma focus within these units. My goal is to better understand the patho/treatment/complications related to trauma injury within these care settings. Thanks!!
  22. OK sounds good. I’d be happy with completing the program in 2 terms. Are you working full time?
  23. Hey there, I start 6/1 and I am currently 65% complete. If you look on your transcript evaluation it should say how many credits you still have to complete. I need to complete 42. Did you start those mandatory live classes yet, since you are now within a few weeks of your start date?
  24. Boy this thread died quick...Does anyone else want to take a break from talking about COVID to talk a little bit about the WGU RN-BSN program??
  25. Thanks for your reply! Very helpful. If they allow me to graduate with only my BSN and not require me to go all the way through the MSN content then I believe I may just choose the RN-MSN track for the same reason you did. There really isn’t anything to loose if I can stop after BSN if I want.
