  1. Thanks so far that replied, thats kinda what i told him too you have big decisions to make. He has had a lot on his plate to deal with the past 2 years family wise too. he supported his gf through school and then she left him after he got her through school, then his mother got a divorce which was for the better, but thats stressed him out too. I think he'd make a great nurse, i said to not let others influence you. There is no pefect job, we all have to deal with cerain things that arent god, but overall if you love your job, you will never work a day of your life in essence, because you love what you do.
  2. Heres the deal. I have a friend who has worked in the medical field. He has worked in the lab as a phlebotomist and in phamacy as well. He started nursing school thinking this was the field for him. He started his first 9 weeks and was top in his class 4.0 and 1st out of 43 students. He has always done well in school. Started out pre pharmacy but went to pharm school for a semester and hated it, and left the school. He felt he needed more pt contact. So he started nursing school and then started hearing all the horoor stories about nursing. He left after the first 9 weeks and opted for a leave of absence. He went back here in october stayed 2 days and left. I felt bad for him. Kinda sad there has to be other people that spread the word that nursing sucks, that"do something else, dont be a nurse. A few nurses have told him to leave get out while he can. My advice to him was do what your heart says. Maybe hes burned out of medicine is what I told him. My point is hes tried this 2 times and is torn. Hes thought about going to a new nursing school. A friend can only give so much advice, so I wanted to hear from other nurses in teh field and students opinions. Let me know what ya think, thanks.
  3. The vents to compression are still 2 to 15 for adults. The one thing that has changed this year is that children under 8 years of age can now have an AED placed on them. Everything else is the same when it comes to the compression to ventilations on adults. If the pads are too big for the kids place one on the front and the other pad on the back side, just so they do not touch one another.
  4. I majored in accounting first go around and got my MBA, all before going to med school. Medicine and business do not mix. MBA's are hard and if you don't have accounting experience especially with intermediate accounting and cost analysis accounting you will have a very difficult time. Accounting is it's own language. Good luck but I'd get a MS in teaching if I were you.
  5. In regards to your question about MBA's my cousin got hers. She has an assocaitaes degree from nursing but before she became a nurse she was an accounting major. I myself majored in accounting too and got my MBA. MBA degree can be pretty difficult if you have no accounting background. I had a few non business people in my MBA classes and they failed since you have to get an A or B for the class to count. MY cousin said she would advise a nurse that wanted to further their educated to get a masters in education. Hope that helps you out.
  6. I think too mnay people go into nursing thinking they are going to make excellent money. But when it boils down to it you never will as a regular nurse. Agencies do pay better but require more experience and there are a lot of hidden things they never tell you once you get to your site and then you are stuck with a contract. Nursing schools can be very expensive. Coming from my business sense background people need to do a cost to benefit analysis before taking out the debt for school. To me if you have to finance a nursing education for more than 20k you will be paying those loans for a long time. afiend of mine graduated with a bsn and had a total student loan debt of 38k. Ive seen some as much as 45k. Bottom line is most slaries for new grads will be in the range of 17-19 an hour.
