Hi there! I'm currently at UTA's FNP online program. I am so honestly disappointed in their curriculum. I want to switch to WGU and believe the self paced, if that applies to this program, will be far better suited. The rushing that UTA does isn't suitable for the depth of learning I want to have. I find it is memorization and not true learning. I'm looking for a better environment with more depth and time. Is this something that WGU does? I have a counselor to talk to on Thurs but looking for any information from actual student experience.

Congrats to all of you! So, now that admitted you will have tons of questions. There are many mentors and leaders to help guide you. One or a few of you whom tend to be natural leaders or want to be I suggest make a FB Group page. Name it however you wish reflecting the TCC Spring 2018 semester.. I made ours private so that not everyone and their mom can see our posts and be on our group. Also, you can join the other nursing groups of the upper classman. It is not a big deal about the photo. Many people had to redo theirs for some reason. They will let you know after notice of admission and during orientation if you need to retake and submit passport photo. Also once accepted you will get a welcome email following soon after thats called a bootcamp email. It has an entire packet of information of what to begin on next with injections, due dates, background checks, orientation dates, technology dates, tours, cpr, all of that comes after admission email and your reply of acceptance.

Hello there Spring 2018. You will become familiar with myself and a few others of us that are upper classman who like to mentor. I am Meagan Sensing and a year ago I was sitting in your shoes as I submitted my application to the Spring 2017 Program. I was accepted and began in Jan 2017 for TCCs Nursing Program. And OMG let me tell you how fast a year goes by!!! It's ridiculous...today was the first day of our 3rd semester\end of 1st yr and we sat and talked about you all coming in and on the same position we were a yr ago! So we completely understand...also a new class just started this fall before you and we have helped them along as well. You will have many questions...there is lots to do and figure out and all of that will come. Enjoy the time you have while you have it for the remainder of the year. If I CLD have any recommendations, start looking at medical terminology, nursing process, and dosage calc. If you want a head start on content. Otherwise enjoy the break while you have it lol.... This is a nursing family, we all tend to help each other...I know your primary concern is getting into the program right now. Usually they send notification around middle of Sept. I believe I found out on the 15th. This past semester for the newbies they ran a week behind. You will be notified by email only either way accepted or not or alternate. If alternate you can still be accepted all the way into the beginning of 3rd week of class. Don't lose hope...many situations change and positions open. Average acceptance rate are all A's on sciences with mid 80s HESI or combo A\B's out of sciences with 90 HESI for the best competition market. That's not saying they won't take you. But that's the base average we were told to shoot for if we wanted guaranteed admission. So now wait, panic, drink, whatever you do in the mean time but enjoy the time :) you won't have a lot once you begin....

Congrats as an LVN however a word of advice, don't settle for less and pay for a program you truly don't want. The requirements for LVNs in hospitals are changing and by 2020 if you're an LVN that fills an RN role you will be required to have RN or lose position. I would definitely get some tutoring and try your hesi a feel times this year Because you can do it. Unless LVN is truly what you want ensure you know what you're going into ...just some advice from a 1st yr nursing student

Dont let anything supposedly 'make you' feel anyway at all. I never understood when people say that, that's a choice of a mindset. Nothing 'makes' you anything. You have complete control over how you feel and what your perception of any situation is. If you are confident, you draw positivism into your life. If negative or believe something makes you feel a certain way, then it has control over you. Dont let that happen. Learn to have a strong mind. Same as I told my fellow classmates when we were in this position applying, hopeful and waiting. Some got off the forum because they were nervous and feared they wouldnt make it, some stayed and we talked about plans after our admission. Either way, for all of you who have put effort in and applied to the program: If you did your best, then what more can you do? If you knew you could have or can do better, then do it, and try again, dont give up if this is something you truly want. Never settle for less because it is easier to do. Nothing worth it in the end is easy on the trip to get there.

You no longer get to pick your schedule. They assign you. As of this summer semester for mental health and for fall 2017.

What I stated is what we were told to aim for if we wanted guaranteed admission. I had a 90 Hesi and a 3.66 GPA with a 950\1000 critical thinking.

As I stated, the school had grant and accepted more people with other scores from the norm. It's the competition and what is going on with the pool at the time. We had more accepted than the normal due to that was the agreement for receiving the grant. And it was 3.66 GPA for science(however you round it), you either have 4.0, 3.6\3.7, 3.3 or 3.0 when you apply. That was typo it wouldn't let me correct it.

They had some unusual things occur they are working on. You will get your notification soon. Yes we all understand what it's like waiting. There's no process in a chain of who's higher in acceptance than another. They look at scores. GPA and Hesi and your completed application requirements and that's it. Usually the norm is 87 or above HESI scores and 3.7 GPA for acceptance. That's the standard for admission. If you are lower in GPA you must have higher HESI in 90s to be competitive. This is what we were told and what we aimed for in application and acceptance. TCC had a grant this past yr and accepted more students into program than usual this past semester. We took 200 vs our 130 to 150 with scores that shifted on that norm curve scale. I don't know what they are doing this year. That is all the knowledge I can provide and guidance of what us Spring 2017 worked off of.

We got notification on our day they listed. However this semester with your class, there are some unique differences occuring. They are doing their best and will get your notification to you as soon as possible. Again relax and try to enjoy your summer between now and Aug. You won't have a lot of time after that. Myself and other students are working to be mentors for your upcoming foundations class as well as be there at your orientation. Dana is the nursing departments primary administrative assistant. She handles most of the organization and the behind scenes semantics of the department. I know you are all anxiously waiting to find out I completely understand the feeling as we were once there as well, however just breathe and relax while you can :) soon enough you'll be very busy in the program wanting your summer back wishing you had a few days of time to relax lol :) enjoy it while you have the time! They don't care about that but you do need the English to complete the graduation requirements for the degree. I would recommend not drop if it's your Eng 1301. You'll need it.
