Assessing PERRLA
at my ADN program we were only given a 2 minute demonstration on how to assess for PERRLA, which i thought was very inadequate. So i had to use supplemental material such as YouTube. Additionally, i have extra trouble seeing pupil cnstriction due to being nearsighted which cant be corrected by regular prescription lenses....hopefully tho ill be able to train my eyes to catch the subtle contriction of the pupils one day . youtube has helped tho, as well as practicing on ppl i know

Nursing Vs. Teaching
If you're leaning more towards teaching, then I would STRONGLY recommend substitute teaching so you can get a glimpse of the fraction of stress involved (minus making lesson plans, dealing with parents, grading papers, etc.). I've read countless posts on this site where people advocate nursing is more stressful than teaching OR vice versa. But then again, each profession...stress can totally depends on WHO you work for, what specialty/grade you do, and where you work. That's why you'll never get a clear cut answer from forums. My background: I have a BA in psychology, I have been a tutor for 6+ years helping students in all grades and subjects from 1st grade thru College (Spanish, English, Math, Anatomy, Microbiology, and Physiology). I have also been a Substitute teacher - during that period I challenged myself try subbing for ALL grades and subjects. I have absolutely LOVED subbing for 2nd-5th grade and look forward to my job everyday...even though it can be VERY draining and stressful. BUT I have decided to enter into an ADN program...and if I ever do make a career change in the future, then it will def be teaching.

Anyone go from teaching to nursing?
My situation is fairly similar to several people who have posted on this site. I have been on my path towards a nursing career for the past 3 years - taking prereq courses, volunteering at the hospital, applying to schools, etc. I have been totally set on getting into an ABSN program (since I already have my BA in psychology). However, I haven't been able to get into any of the programs last year, and same with this year. BUT I did get into an ADN program which I have been reluctant to take due to the fact that the ABSN program is 15 months long vs. ADN program being 2 years long. For that reason, I am considering just settling for being an Elementary teacher - which i'd also LOVE to do (and the program is 15 months long), but on the other hand I don't want to waste all the time and effort I have put towards my future nursing career. I am torn between both teaching and nursing.
