  1. I think Weatherford college has an evening program. It's like 30 min west of fort worth! I went there for my lvn-RN . It's a good school but its a far drive. It was an hour there and back for me. They also have a RN-BSN now for after you finish thats online through Midwestern state I think. I don't think that there are any online lvn-RN schools. there are a few RN-BSN online out of state options like Indiana state. It seems like there are a LOT of hoops to jump through just to apply but it seems worth it if you are determined. I'd also think about if its possible for you to maybe work weekends doubles or something. I worked weekend doubles while in school and that really helped so I could have flexibility during the week. Good luck!!
  2. Hi Ruzan! I'm doing periop 101 as well at my job. It's been rough this week so far. Since we are only running 2-3 rooms there are limited cases so far. Us periops are often used to help clean and turn over rooms, stock inventory and pull cases for the next day since most of the "auxiliary" staff have had their hours cut. It feels kind of bad not being able to learn about how to actually circulate a room as often as before but I feel like the experience having to sort of impromptu fill in for these other roles had allowed me to better understand how the OR works as a unit. Also, I think when I get to the point of being on call or doing night/weekend shifts that I will be able to be much more independent since I've learned where things are kept and how to do little things haha. I won't have to try to text someone to find out the code to the bio-hazard room if I have a full sharps container or how to quickly find the preference cards for an urgent case for a surgeon I've never worked with. I do hope that even though we will probably have a lot more cases after all this is done that my director and educator is understanding and still will make sure we are fully trained and comfortable circulating. I only feel comfortable enough to help circulate and anticipate in basic general surgery cases. I've not been in very many other specialties and we normally do a lot of othro and neuro and I've not seen many of those cases. There's also gyn and cysto cases as well as a heart team and I have no idea what they are up to LOL
  3. Is there anyway to get a link to the article by Trisha Hutton? I will be starting Peri-op 101 as a new grad next month and I'm really interested in learning more about the different possibilities for RN's to advance in the OR setting .
  4. I haven't! I talked I know someone who went through the residency at Fort Worth few years ago they said it takes a while. I got a rejection but thankfully I got into a residency somewhere else! Good luck everyone! It's hard out there as a new grad nurse.
  5. Yeah. I interviewed at a different one but I already got a rejection letter there :(. Maybe hearing nothing is a good thing? Lol
  6. Has anyone heard anything from ebonee's hospitals? Or MC fortworth more specifically?
  7. Hi trinabart5, I did apply for El centro last spring but they did not accept anyone for Fall 2018 because of an issue with there status with the board of nursing. They did reach out to me and offer be a spot for accelerated fall entrance that started in October or November and/or for spring 2019 but that I declined since I already started an ADN at a different school. My GPA isn't the best maybe a 2.7, but my HESI scores where high most areas in high 90s and I think 90 overall average. The Teas is a little harder than HESI, they are both not bad if you prepare. I used the Admissions assessment review by Elsevier to prepare with. If you have taken a lot of your pre reqs you should be able to do well on it. I don't remember how many points I had exactly, but It seems like if you have a high gpa you can do a little lower on the HESI and vise versa. Its probably best to have the majority of the optional prereqs done if you can. I know someone who's going to El Centro now and the biggest complaint they have is that its disorganized and there is a lot of self teaching involved. But If you are a strong student its do able. My best advice is to apply to a few schools so you can have a plan B and plan C. If I didn't have a back up plan and waited just on El Centro, I would have had to wait 9 months until I could have started nursing school!
  8. That's really lucky of you to be able to get a great clinical spots. If you don't mind me asking , how was the job search after your degree? Was your degree from El Centro well received? I just heard that El Centro is currently on conditional staus and a quick google search confirmed. While on conditional they can't admit anymore students I'm not sure what's going to happen with the application process. Hopefully there's an appeal process they can do. Good thing I've applied to more than one school!
  9. Thanks a lot for replying phalanx. Yeah ive heard a lot of similar things and also with their nlcex pass rate I imagined it must not be as smoothly run as other programs. The length of the program also bothers me a bit as well. I'd much rather the bridge take one calendar year than 1.5. Kinda odd that it's considered a bridge and not just testing out like other traditional adn programs. What kind of places are the clinicals held? I some schools do a lot of nursing home and step down units. I hope that this program gives student work in a hospital setting. Also what is the schedule like? Hopefully not as 8-5 everyday like LVN school. I just recently submitted my application so the count down until April 30th starts now!
  10. Hi everyone. I noticed there are topics for the traditional entrance for this coming Fall but none for the bridge program. Just wondering if there's any other applicants out there who are as anxious as I am to turn in my manilla application envelope. I think this program will have few available spots so it should be very competitive. This program is on warning for low nlcex pass rates according to the Txbon website. Though, they are rumored to have gotten off of their warning status recently. Apparently they are revamping the program for the 2018 year so it should be interesting . Despite all that, It's the closest program to me and the cheapest. An RN is an RN, right? Anyway, I'd love to share anxieties about admissions, hear from current/past LVN bridgers, and pool together information about the lvn-RN program at El Centro in Downtown Dallas. I'll tell you my points if you tell me yours lmao
  11. Glad to hear the course load isn't too bad. I went to a information session last week and got a ton of info. I also took my hesi and did really well. It was just on math, reading , vocab and english. It was pretty easy. This only thing that worries me is that the admission person said that clinicals can be ANY day of the week including weekends. I'm playing on working on the weekends to support myself while I'm in school so that has me worried! I have some transfer credits too so I'm going back next week to get that settled.
  12. Hi guys! I'm interested in hearing about people's experiences in the West Coast University program in Dallas. I know that people have made topics about this in the past, but they were pretty old and I imagine a few more cohorts have gotten through the program by now. :) Are you enjoying the program? Positive experiences? Regrets? Is the course load manageable? And yes, I am aware that this program costs an exuberant amount of money. I'm willing to pay it and I understand what I'm getting into financially.
