Was she able to make the $300 payments? Are you able to adjust them to a lower payment at anytime during school?

I have an Avengers and a Batman one I bought at Walmart. I know some people don't prefer Walmart buy I bough a Hello Kitty top from them and it lasted years so I figured why not, the tops and pants are decent on a budget? I've also seen WonderWoman, Disney (Lion king), and Superman at Walmart. I know there is also Star Wars ones but there more high end at scrubs stores. If you know how to sew you can get Dr Who or Legend of Zelda fabric online and make tops yourself

@ladyfree28 I go to Mt Sac (a cc) now but they are neither acen or ccne accredited. -all the ccne programs listed on their website are all UNis as you need to have a BSN program to qualify -And as for acen there is only 25 adn programs in the whole state of Cali that are listed as accredited -question for anyone: If I get an adn at a for profit school and transferred to another for profit BSN program (this BSN program would take my for profit adn, maybe needing to retake a class or two, but this BSN program is wasc accredited) would that mean I can take that wasc accredited BSN onto a msn program?

@meanmaryjean I understand that he BON doesn't accredit schools, I only meant that the program itself is approved. ok so this is what I've researched, if someone here is from SoCal please correct me if I am wrong. -if a school's PROGRAM itself is BON approved, You would be allowed to test for your board lic -the school itself is not wasc accredited and I am ok with that bc I can transfer to West Coast Uni for BSN (not ideal but I'm fine with it) and then carry on with my msn somewhere else or just stay at this school for my BSN

@KCMnurse the schools pass rates are good (my own research not what was put in front of me) also at least here in SoCal the places I have been employed (which are reputable) hire new grad from a lot of for profits schools. If you want to get somewhere super prestigious its kindve a matter of experience at that point and not where you graduated, might take longer but I've seen it. Also as of right now there is a cc and a for profit school that's on ~notice~ from the CA BON that they could pull their programs (not hearsay, it's on the CA Gov website). This seems common/not so out of the norm bc I've had cowrokers at different schools tell me their program at some point was on notice as well, APU's fast track in particular. You just have to change what wrong and have someone come check it out again...kinda like a food inspection. (This happened to APU like two-three years ago tho, not recent).

@wrench party the school I am aiming for is BON approved, just not wasc. There is an opportunity to trasnfer to a particular wasc school for bsn tho. @thecommuter no one has mentioned a required gpa but you do need to score a 62% on the TEAs V (and AN has such a great section on it) @buyerbeware thank you for your post. These two things were the only thing that I had thought about. Others are right, idk what went wrong with the "Friend" but since it's a friend of a friend I'm not gonna ask either. And unfortunately a for profit school is looking like my only option as the cc system is already competitive and getting more so bc SoCal is about to role out their cc BSN programs and 1/2 the schools in the area I'm not competitive enough to for them. I understand the risks of reputation but like I stated before I have two different friends/coworkers who have gone to this school and have honest trustworthy opinions of the good and the bad. And it's ~not as expensive~ as other for profits schools.

Is this a person of taller/more muscular stature? That's what I come across a lot.. "Oh the pt is a min assist". I get so mad. It's like no, that person can basically just pick the pt up and transfer and I'm not about to get myself hurt. Idk of this helped but #rant

If you're smaller then ask for help, even if this disgruntles other employees, if something happens to you and you didn't ask for help then the facility could make sure you assume fault. Make sure the bed is at a good height for both of you guys. Trendleberg helps, draw sheets, bending the pts opposite knee of the way your trying to turn helps with the load (if your turning left bend the right knee) as it gives you leverage. But there's not fix for pts that can't/won't help. Try and have the pt do as much as they can and don't EVER let the pt pull themselves up with hands on your hips or around your neck.

I'm not sure where you live but I've never seen a cna in a clinic setting, only MAs. cna work isn't all messy work, but it's a big part. Sitters def still have to do messy work, just for that pt solely. And I hope you don't take the pov of not helping the cna with the messy work, that won't really help you make friends at work or have pleasant work experiences with cnas.

I think you did the right thing by assisting the fall. If the pt was already at the sink it's unlikely that you could get the pt to a bench or the toilet. I'd be afraid to try and get the pt that far if the pt was already going down as the pt could get hurt on the way to a chair and if an assisted fall to the floor seemed safer. I worked ltc for a VERY short period. It seemed almost all of the pts were a two person assist or hoyer lift. So if someone calls you in to look into the fall be honest. You thought you could do it, the pt seemed fine. If anything this is a learning curve to always double check and ask for help if you think it's necessary.

-Also depending on some facilities licensure's you don't need to be certified cnas or pcts. That does vary to state to state. But as far as SoCal most group homes or assisted livings you don't need to be certified (I think this may be because most group homes or assisted livings market themselves as "place for blah blah blah" and are Noninvasive like one place I worked at refused "clients" that couldn't take their own blood sugars bc finger pricks are considered invasive...but this particular "client" was in their dementia wing).But I heard awhile ago that the state was trying to mainstream it so that anyone working in a healthcare setting needed to at least have a cna.

-I've seen some hospitals try and phase out cnas bc on paper they look like a frivolous cost, but tbh they're super important for pt satisfaction scores (considering tele and med/surg unit nurses would have to do total care for 4-5 alone). -I've also seen some facilities expand the role and switch the title to pct and add such responsibilities as accuchecks, ecgs, and Bladderscans. -I know that assisted living does a med tech position but the training lasts anywhere for a couple of days. But the med tech is not responsible/not allowed to call the dr about other medications like a nurse would (eg bp or pain meds). They literally read the chart and administer those meds. -I have a acquaintance that when asked how I became a cna and I told him about the programs he stated he "took a one day class that they basically told these people on how to become a cna"...and that ~he's basically a cna~...I said no. Not the same thing. No one would hire you.

@tricaj I understand this. I am taking it with a grain of salt. But I had wanted to ask the question here to just see if anyone had any rejection stories and thought if I had mentioned it it would've broken the ice for some that were wavering on sharing their story.

No question here, I was just responding to the comments. The main question is still in play tho: has anyone been turned away from a for profit school and why?

Mte, that's why I was reaching out to see if anyone here had an experience and were willing to share. It doesn't even need to be this school particularly that you had an experience.

Try and always get more sleep the day before you start your first night shift. Try and pack a lunch because the only thing open is gonna be crap and it'll take a toll on your and your body. If you drink coffee hide your creamer (once someone knows you have some, everyone will know). For the drive home I have coworkers who brush their teeth before they leave or chew gum on the way home.

@roser13 the two people I know personally passed their background check. The friend of a friend idk and she never told my friend why she didn't get in. Not passing the background check could certainly be a possibility, but I'm not sure why they'd let her get to an interview (as I understand the background check is suppose to be done before you get to the interview) if she didn't pass. There as a person back in 2013 that posted on the topic of admission into CNI on the forum and she stated she as well didn't get in but she didn't attribute that to a bad background check. @cayenne06 to some this would be a blessing, but speaking for myself and my two friends (all of us work as cnas and cannot afford to work less hours unless we're in a program) this seems to be the a decently good route to take. Both of my friends had really good experiences at the school.

Anyone have any help/advice/suggestions on DON interview or Finacial Aid process. Still studying for my TEAS V (if anyone wants help studying pm me) but idk anything about the Interview or FA process and would like some insight before going in.

Only on pre-reqs but when I've suggested to get together with ppl that same has happened to me. Then it wasn't till after a exam some showed up and some didn't. Then again in some other classes study groups haven't helped me either. I would say keep it open if someone would like to study with you, but if not it never helped me worrying about someone else's grades

I would put a mask on. Like someone said before you can always tell someone you feel a little raspy, some have even thanked me for having one on. Also I've used coffee grounds. Put it in a cup of coffee filter and place in patients room or the root cause of smell. Some patients have gotten embarrassed and have apologized (especially if there is another patient in the room or if it takes a couple of people to clean them up) but they'll notice he coffee soaks up the smell and not just mask it with spray. Some places won't really allow spray too incase here is an asthmatic person around.

And I mean above and beyond in the patients definition. Most healthcare staff do all they can and then more, but for some people this isn't enough. Also I feel the world client usually goes hand in hand with the phrase "you're here to make me happy"

I think both words have a lot of similarities: helping, serving, checking up on. However I feel the word client has more negative conontations bc it feels like you should be going out of your way to, idk, make a sale? We aren't selling anything, we're here to provide a service that this person is in need of. However we all have had a patient or two who have acted like they are our only patient and why aren't we going above and beyond regardless of our current load. But I feel when you use this word healthcare staff lose any respect we had (and waaaay too many people already dump on us anyways) and people start taking advantage.
