Is Shortage in Nursing really a hoax?
I live in GA and can attest to this!

My Experience as an Non-political White Male in Nursing / NP School
Im a black male in South Georgia and went to school where there were no black teachers for nursing and my class was mostly black (about 60%) and had 3 more black males in school. My instructors were professional, always told the class that politics would not be discussed or tolerated unless it was related to the current topic in class, no personal affiliations that could be discussed in class, taught the class in depth, we were taught that demographics played an role in an patient outcomes (and yes it was sometimes the patient fault for having 3 strokes or gaining 10lbs of fluid in CHF), and if you can't do a group project and enjoy it, then nursing won't be for you! Theres more than taking care of a patient, you have to have people skills to! I just think your personal views clouded you in class and thinking its personal. You'd better get a tough skin, real quick! I have been called the N-word on my floor from a patient, been told they don't want a black to take care of their mother, or flat out try to lie and said I never entered their room the whole day (but not knowing I have a tracker that tracks my movements on the floor all day). I don't blame not one white person on this board about my past life, you know why? Because I don't dwell on what the next person is doing! I move on and made a way for myself and my family! We live nice with a house nearly paid off and have an heavy equity in it now! My advice is do your job and just brush off what people say as long as it's not harmful!

Failed nursing school(technically)
Al you needed was a 2.0 for clinicals? That grade doesn't sound right, I mean if they said a max of 3 with the lowest being 2.5 would be okay. My school said anything lower than 90/100 is failing. I mean if you failed it then either the teacher isn't doing a good job, the hospital preceptors, or its something the class isn't doing! I mean 27 down to 6 isn't very reflective of the school and probably lose its accreditation. Always have 2 stethoscopes a cheap one and a really nice one, have your folders, have extra pens and two pair of scissors! Sometimes a few students had extra watches incase something happened. Have your pharmacology books and diagnosis books to.

I feel dumb as a rock in comparison to my classmates
Secret tip....every floor of nursing, facility, or school you work in requires some form of nursing! I hated mother/baby but did it enough to pass and move to my emergency med surge and peds another area I didn't like to graduate! No nurse is smarter or better than you unless you put your mind set in that way! Make friends with those other nurses and ask about studying tips! Ask to start a study group! Make a FB private group for your class! Get everyone involved! 1st step is got to you instructors and go over what you missed on your tests, they will only engage you if you come to them first! Take me for instance when I was failing Peds, I went directly to my instructor and asked what was my problem and not doing good on my first 2 tests she literally told me I was 2nd guessing my self on my exams and stick to my first answers, after that I gained about and avg of 6 points better on my test from 73 to 79~. Made an 92 on my comprehensive final and needed and 76 to pass the class! Graduated in 2017 and became a Staff nurse on Physical Rehab, In FEB of 2018 I was offered a PCC (Patient Care Coordinator, just below nurse manager) position and declined it because I didn't think I could lead a staff of Therapists with Masters and Doctorates as well as nurses with way more experience than me and I refused! Again in April they asked did I want the position and I refused! Late in May they asked again and by this time the other nurses talked me into doing it, especially since I was an Tech Sgt in the Air Force, they said it couldn't be any harder than that, so I accepted the position! Be in that position since then getting nice raises every year and have a high morale on my floor because I work with an awesome staff! I have had nurses in my class with near perfect or perfect GPA's who couldn't cut it on an Acute floor and Facility, so they are in MD's offices or schools where they dont have to take on a huge role. I know a few C's get degrees nurses who have moved to PICU/ICU/ER trauma 1 hospitals and are killing it on the floor! Its how you apply your self and willingness to learn! I never hated nursing, I just built upon my failure in school! If you ever saw my HS transcripts you'd probably laugh at me! I never focused in school and just concentrated on sports and just got by without any effort at first until my 9th grade World History teacher pull me aside and knew I could do better than that! She said I had intelligence and was doing better than her gifted students and persuaded me to take up technologies gifted class and I did. It was probably the best life changing thing a person has ever done for me! Love you Mrs. Gaskins where ever you are!

Dismissed, what now?
It's doable! Even though I never were dismissed from a class, I did have to retake mother/baby for my LPN to RN class. Some schools in joint with others in the area will not allow you to join for a year or two. In Ga most state schools will not take you for two years. They got to Florida or Bama and get in.

Fear-mongering in nursing school
Quite frankly you're only barley getting your feet in the kiddy pool before you even ready to take on the ocean! I found my pre-req easy 3.7 including extra biology like Marine Biology I took for fun because I love science, except math my kryptonite! I went from LPN to RN in an accelerated program that required a 75 of higher. I failed mother baby because I don't like peds at all! In LPN school you weren't even a CNA deemed fit to wash booties for non-ambulatory patients and yes in my second quarter for the first 3 weeks thats all we could do! My instructor's were vigorous and kicked you out of class if they thought you were knew more than anybody else and their reasoning is you're not listening and learning. This is an old military adage, The day you stop learning is they day you're going to get yourself killed or kill somebody! I had a LPN in my bridge class who though she knew better anybody and was the first one booted out of school and expelled when the teacher dismissed her by threatening harm to staff. She also called my instructor racists that doesn't like blacks (over 50% of my class including me were black). Difficulty comes in different terms such as balancing essential life (paying bills, eating, and taking care of your family if you have one). I've had 4.0 students fail out of Nursing school. I've seen our class honors who couldn't do anything right on the floor and couldn't lead a team of nurses during leadership and held it for one day! She currently is in a Dr's office and afraid to work in an Acute setting or Hospital! My class instructors also put us in the best position to learn hands on, we ran mock codes with those 100k mannequins that instructors could control on a computer. We worked with student police officers, student paramedics/emt's, Student MD's (from our local MED schools), and Residents from the local Hospital and it was the best thing we could have experienced! Not sure what school you are going to but again you're only in the pre-phase! Pharm is easy I made an A on that with my eyes closed! They do fear mongering because alot of people come in with a mind set of I made an 3.7-4.0 in my pre-reqs, but you have to critically think and there will be a day you have to be a charge nurse or manager and no one will be there to help you out! We just fired a nurse who was smart but couldn't follow simple directions on the floor! She was going to kill someone sooner or later, because training on our floor was beneath her. My Nurse Manager got her placed on a non rehire list from the hospital and sister hospitals. Another facility in a city about 50 miles away called and asked for a reference and my Nurse Manager responded that she would not rehire her but can't say why. What I'm saying is keep doing what you do and don't cause poor morale amongst students in the program as that can get you dismissed. I also should add is that Nursing is a stressful job no matter what floor you work!

Wilkes university pmhnp fall 2019
I'm not a student yet. I have to get my BSN but have signed up for Capella RN to BSN and can have mine in 3 months. I'm looking for PMHNP schools and want sign up for 2021. I am looking for a school that is online and has good teachers. I have some psych experience from working in the state prison for about 5 months (I quit the job because the nurses were making it dangerous out there and were lazy).

Wilkes university pmhnp fall 2019
As far as the course goes is it any harder than your ADN/BSN school?

How are tests administered @ Wilkes? Is it home proctored or do I have to go to a proctor site local?

PHMNP/NP was the school harder than your ADN/BSN?
I'm currently applying to Capella and Northern Arizona University for their BSN. I'm wanting to get my PHMNP or NP. Is Psych NP/ NP school much harder than the ADN/BSN program? I know its more coursework/homework. I bridged from LPN to ADN and it was hard while trying to go to school and hold down a full time jobs to pay bills. I had mostly B's and C's. My instructors were hard but taught us how to be a nurse and not just pass and take the NCLEX! Our Graduation Rate was 96% and NCLEX 100% pass first time. I currently work on the Acute Inpatient Rehab unit. I worked at a Nursing Home and State Prison system for about 6 years as an LPN, so I know that dealing with psych patients is an different approach and can be dangerous, but I never was in any danger. My current GPA is 2.92 and I mainly got A's in my science class including Marine Biology. I got High B's in my Microbiology (taught by a Dr from the University of Florida and was one of the only 3 students out of 15 who passed her class) and missed getting a A in my A&P 1 class by 1 point! I think I will be able to bring my GPA up to 3.3 in the BSN program. Are the proctored tests hard? What are the studies like in the program? I have 3 PHMNP programs I'm looking to apply for at Georgia Southern, Valdosta State University, and University of Alabama Birmingham. I am planning to shadow a PHMNP and FNP soon in the coming weeks at my facility. Any inside info will be appreciated! Any NP in their respective schools can answer!

Active Duty LPN to RN (Online please)
Would be hard unless you'd get permission from your base commander and require to give them extra years of service! LPN to RN is long and hard! I'm an LPN to RN grad and I did this after 7 years after the Air Force!

I really want to quit..any advice?
No don't quit because of the patients! On any floor and facility they will be the same! I work in Rehab as an RN and worked as a LPN in the prison system for a few months and nursing home. Better develop a strong invisible wall and keep moving! If it's because the staff is just down right just being nasty, then go to an Admin or House supervisor. If that doesn't work then give your month notice and leave the bridge intact, you never know when you'll need it again. Another suggestion is talk to your nurse manager or some experienced older nurse!

Hesi Tips needed!
Update: I passed my Exit Hesi first time around with a 940 just using the hesi book and having review time with my classmates! The class avg was 975 everyone passed except two but the failed by less than 10 points! I'm not out of the woods yet! I still have to bring my 71.6 in medsurg and 73.66 in peds to a 75 both which are doable as I have 2 tests and a final in both left! I have stopped working to focus on graduating!

Hesi Tips needed!
It's not most, it's just alot of stuff we haven't covered. My first two semesters went by without a hitch, but then BAM! This last one is no joke! I just dont know. Though it seems this test follows a pattern. It asks about some meds Ive never heard of or is mostly about safety or infections.

Hesi Tips needed!
I am in my last semester of LPN-RN. currently I am not passing either peds (73.6) or Medsurg 3 (71.6) as we need a 75 to pass but the good thing is my grades have increased steadily and i have 2 test and a final in each class to pass. But i am soo worried about the hesi exit! When i took my LPN exit i passed but barley but passed with flying colors on my PN-CLEX (75 questions). My question is, is the test like Nclex or is it something different. I also need tips on how to study because I took practice tests and found out that either I make high 60's to low 80's! Alot of this stuff on the test is stuff we havent even heard of yet!
