I just graduated from Walden's AGNP program. It was not terrible, nor was it exceptional by any means. As with any online learning, I think you get out what you put in, as you don't really have teachers, you have "facilitators." When I chose my school I based it on convenience and cost. Why pay $1100 per credit as you said when you can pay $650? I have co-workers who attend prestigious state university NP programs - at the end of the day, the curriculum is very similar and they have all told me they wish they would have gone a cheaper route. I am very sorry to hear that. I took AANP this morning as well and I completely agree that there were a lot of abstract questions I wasn't expecting on an entry-level primary care exam. I was certain that I failed, and was shocked when she handed me the paper that said "PASSED." I did feel that Barkley's review was very helpful - I used his CDs and study guide. There are no practice questions included but I felt he did a great job of going over all the material. I would also recommend purchasing the practice questions for $50 that are offered on the AANP website, because they are formatted very similarly to what is on the exam. You could always look into post-Master's certification. I really think it depends on what you want to do. I have no desire to take care of kids, work in an ER, or urgent care setting so I decided FNP wasn't for me. I figure if I feel differently in the future, I can go back for the post-Master's cert. I had several job offers before I was finished with my AGNP program, and I live in a very small, rural area with limited job opportunities.

I will be done with my AGPCNP program in 4 weeks and I'm finally feeling like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I underestimated how hard and stressful this program would be. I can't wait to have a life again and actually be able to spend time with my family. I am also looking forward to having a M-F schedule with the rest of my family and not having to work the weekend ICU shifts that have gotten me through school and clinicals! I do feel very underprepared for boards and for practice in general... I have a great job lined up in a busy internal medicine practice with an incredible physician who loves to teach - no pressure Good luck to everyone!
