Becoming an FNP after graduating as an AGNP?
I am looking into applying to direct-entry NP programs, but the school of my choice currently only has unfilled slots in their AGNP track, and no slots remaining in their FNP track. I have read that AGNPs are facing much harder of a time finding jobs after graduation as most employers prefer to hire FNPs. So having said that, does anyone know what the process is for becoming an FNP after graduating from an AGNP program? Would I need to go back to school and get an additional degree? Thank you!

Vanderbilt MSN 2016
I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I'm interested in applying to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty MSN program for non-nurses. I realize it's really, really late in the admissions cycle at this point, but is there any hope of getting accepted to one of the specialty tracks (especially FNP) at this point? I understand that someone a few posts up mentioned that all the specialty tracks were full, but is there any sort of waitlist that applicants are accepted from? Thanks

Thanks for the info; that's definitely a relief! Just to be sure, our orientation is tomorrow (Monday), right? The only reason I ask is because while Ms. Harris's email states that it is tomorrow, the letter they mailed states that it's on Tuesday. I'll go ahead and plan to show up tomorrow, but I just wanted to be sure. :)

Has everyone already paid their tuition/fees for this semester? I checked Columbus Tech's website for the tuition/fee payment deadline, and apparently that deadline was Jan. 8th... and I haven't paid anything yet! Has everyone else already paid? I never received a tuition bill or anything like that in the mail....

Has anyone taken the health assessment form to a doctor's office to have it filled-out yet? How about the vaccination records? I noticed that in the letter, it's mentioned that these 2 items need to be completed by Jan. 16th (I.e., next Friday).

That's what's confusing -- if you read the letter they mailed everyone via "snail-mail," they actually mention something about having the drug screen and a few other things taken care of by a certain date (Jan. 16th, I believe). BTW, when you emailed your confirmation to attend the program to Ms. Harris, did you receive a response from her? I didn't, so I just wanted to make sure that was supposed to be the case. :-)

Thanks. Do you know if we also need to order the navy blue scrub bottoms and white top from Meridys, or can we just buy those pieces from anywhere? Also, do you know how we should go about doing the drug screen? My acceptance letter didn't include any information or instructions regarding it.

Does anyone know if we need to wear our uniforms on the first day of class? If not, do you know when the first day we need to wear them is?

Online direct-entry NP programs?
No problem, your comment was quite helpful! So would you recommend against Vanderbilt's program? I'm just trying to figure out if I should do an ADN program and then an NP program later on, or directly pursue becoming an NP via a program like Vanderbilt's. I know their program is expensive, but at the same time, I guess I would have to factor in the fact that I'd be earning an NP's salary at least several years sooner than I will if I follow the "traditional" route to becoming an NP.

Online direct-entry NP programs?
Hey everyone. I was just wondering if you guys knew of any direct-entry NP programs that offer partially-online curricula (e.g., online didactic courses combined with "real-life" clinical courses). The only direct-entry program I'm familiar with that seems to fit this profile is Vanderbilt's, and for their ACNP specialty tracks, students are actually required to physically attend on-campus classes for the duration of the program. I do believe, however, that they permit their FNP students to complete the second half of the program online from any location. Their direct-entry programs are also really expensive! Does anyone know of any other direct-entry NP programs that permit students to complete a portion of the didactic curriculum via the internet (I.e., from any location)? Thanks in advance...

Thanks; your GPA looks great, I wish mine was that high! I actually took all the pre-requisite courses at other colleges, so I'm hoping everything ends up transferring in. I guess that now, we wait for December to roll around...

Hey ThePRINCE, that's good to hear that others are currently taking pre-requisites as well. My GPA is currently a 3.6 but will hopefully be a 3.8 after this semester. I made just shy of 150 on the NLN and earned a 99 on both the Reading & Writing sections of the Compass. How about you?

So, since packets were due to be turned in earlier today, I guess the waiting game begins! Does anyone know when we should expect to hear back regarding acceptance/rejection decisions? Also, for those of you who are currently taking or re-taking a pre-requisite class, did you specify this on your Letter of Intent? I am currently re-taking one of the science classes due to it being 7 yrs old, so I wrote "re-taking" next to it, but I hope that was enough! I just don't want my application to get tossed-out, in case they mistakenly think I meant that I was only *planning* on re-taking it (even though I'm actually currently taking it)...
