  1. Royal_Blue it would be very difficult to live in Bismarck without a car
  2. As a nurse with ADD/ADHD, I think besides the proper medication/alternative therapies to help control ADD tendencies, I think it's imperative to self-examine (not to beat yourself up but to learn) your distractions at work. I have become a faithful click-timer girl - from getting ready and out the door in time for work to charting, and I find setting the alarm helps me avoid distractions. It's unrealistic for me to think that I will chart for the next thirty minutes as I get distracted, but 10-15 mins of highly focused charting every hour (ideal situation - most achievable on nights) is much more realistic. Also, adding an IR stimulant as a PRN has helped, as there are times that all the coping mechanisms I learned just are not doing it, and an IR (low dose) certainly has helped me. Plenty of sleep. Lots of fluids. I work mostly 12 hrs nights but do a handful of 12 days - and I definitely notice that I'm much more distracted during days as with all the commotion on the floor and at the nurse's station with doctors, LSW, care planning, and just more people how could you not be. Also, I find it especially important to utilize breaks and make a point to leave the floor whenever I can on breaks!
  3. If you do plan to work the strike and staffing becomes unsafe - I would make sure I was communicating this (written) to your travel agency on a daily basis - and following the proper chain of commands with any concerns (for your own liability)
  4. You might just have to switch your schools to one not affiliated with the current school that expelled you. You might have to discuss, write, or what not to explain the reason for being previously expelled but I give you merit and I think others will to for owning your mistake and learning from it! I work/know numerous professional health care workers that have had previous drug charges, and hold an active license today
  5. What?! You want to rely on gender diversity for a reason male nurses might make more than female nurses?! Gender diversity in the workforce, excluding minimum wage, no benefit jobs, as these largely are designated to women, is dominated by males. Positions of power, leadership, etc. almost in its entirety dominated by males. I would pipe down about the strengths males bring to the workforce, as the majority of us females, are well aware of the privileges that are afforded to you not based on merit, education, physical strength, etc but solely because of your gender. #endrant #sorryhadto - it saddens me to inform you that still ( 2015 calculations) women make $.79 to the dollar a male makes on the mere standing that she is a woman!
  6. RN, BSN with ACLS/PALS/NRP/TNCC in critical care hospital in rural ND MedSurg/ER/Trauma 6+ years experience (all from current hospital) started at $20/hour. Now, $25/hour with $.5 increase for charge, $1.5 for nights no other diffs offered. Mortgage: 1300/month 2 bed 1 bath 1940s home with 10 acres and outlying buildings (average home price 4 or more bedrooms well over $200,000) due to oil boom (2-3 bedroom apt $900-1400) Very male centric state, not complaining but in comparison my hubs went to school for 18 months (3 months were well paid internship +20/hour) 7+ years in his trade been making $100,000+ last 3-4 years
