  1. I believe our standard dopamine concentration is 1.2 mg/ml, which comes from the pharmacy in 60 ml syringes. We have syringe pumps that have libraries which contain all the standard concentrations and formulas for meds like dop/dob, morphine, etc. We plug in the baby's weight and the dose, like 5 mcg/kg/min, and the pump figures out the rate for us, which of course we then have to double check.
  2. I was lucky and sort of fell into NICU nursing also. I graduated from nursing school in 2000 and spent about 6 months working in a tele/dialysis unit, until one day, one of my co-workers noticed that the NICU was hiring nurses for residency positions. I had always wanted to work intensive care but thought I wanted to work with adults. I decided NICU sounded fascinating, jumped on the residency and four years later, here I still am! I wouldn't change it for anything... I love it!! Good luck.
