Wow, I can't believe how much this topic stirred everyone up. I have been a female in the military for almost 20 years and have seen many changes and taken a whole lot of **** too but for some reason movies or TV shows about military or military women portaryed in a negative or inaccurate way has never really made me upset. It's just entertainment and I know what I do everyday. Now I am starting my new nursing career and I think I feel or will feel the same way. I know what I do and I make sure I work hard and carry myself in a professional manner. I don't have time to worry about what others may think, and I know I can't waste time and energy getting angry about TV shows. I watch all kinds of TV shows and some are really dumb but they entertain me, they let me escape for awhile...I never sit and go hmmmm, I wonder if that's how female police officers are or wow, do all female lawyers behave like that?? It's usually the crazy story line I am following and not the acurate portrayal of the women in it. Basically, if I don't like a show, I change the channel. Iif I don't like a blog, I don't go there again.

This is what the hospitals in my area are doing. We just had a job fair at school and I figured they would be talking to the fundamental students but they were totally trying to get us to work for them, part time/full time whatever. I guess they figure if you get in to a hospital and like it they could most likely keep you once you become a certified RN. They really pushed that we will get you certified as an LPN program. Anyway, most of my classmates jumped on these jobs. My friend is totally excited because she got on with full benefits working 3 12's at $13 an hour, she was only making $8 at her old office assistant job. We are in Pensacola so $13 is pretty good for this area. Oh, and they are going to help pay for some of her school and and she isn't bound to a contract. Some of the hospitals have intern programs that are good but bind you to a contract. I am still active duty Navy so I can't do anything until January 07 when I start my terminal leave, 3 months prior to my retirement. I get a bit jealous because they are getting so much experience.

You are way ahead of me in school, we haven't even given meds in clinical yet. Did our practicums but not at clinical. I guess I would email her...I am just thinking of my instructor, seems like everything really irritates her. I would ask the director like you said. I know it is driving you nuts, it would be driving me nuts too.

hey all, i am originally from san diego, ca. i now live and will retire in lower alabama. i work and go to school in pensacola, florida. hey flbratgirl, do you work at nhp? yes, hurricane evacuation is getting old and expensive....but still it's cheaper than living in california, lol.

I have always made A's and now I am cutting like 88% on my tests, which is way better than most of my classmates, some are failing. I am happy with my grades although I would love to cut in the 90's. I guess it also depends on what else you have going on in your life, like work, kids...or whateverelse. My plate is pretty full and I don't have time for group study so basically I just do what I can to make it through the tests.

Oh my god, I still can't believe that your classmate ratted you out to your instructor. I wouldn't email the instructor, I would just lay low and pay close attention to what you are doing. I know when you make a mistake it can be like a spot light is on you and everyone watches you, which makes you nervous even if you weren't before, don't let it shake your confidence. I know you learned a lot from this incident and everyone makes mistakes so hold you head up, put it behind you and get on with finishing this semester. Don't let it play over and over in your head and impact everything you do for the rest of the semester because you can't change the mistake but you can control how it affects your performance from here on out.

wow, i didn't know i was old, lol. i am 40 right now and in an adn program. i have all my pre reqs done to complete my bsn later, and i probably won't stop after that. nursing will be my second career, but i don't feel old at all, infact there are some in my class that are way older. oh, i also have 2 young boys, one 4 and my youngest turns 2 on st. patricks day. who knows i might try one more time for a girl. i must say i have always lived my life to the fullest and have just done things when it felt right for me not when everyone said i should. let me tell you i had a whole lotta fun before having my fist baby 3 days before i turned 37. i actually am happier and feel more at peace with myself than i ever did before. it feels like the older i get the more i know and like myself, and the less i care what other people think. anyone else feel like that????
