Hello, I got an interview at heme/onc! I got an interview on 1/17, which seems very late compared to other interviews that are taking place in the first two weeks. Do you think it’s a typo and she means 1/7? Thanks!

Hi there! I was accepted to the San Mateo cohort. This is my second round of nursing app cycles but my first time applying to Samuel Merritt. I am happy to help anyone who would like some advice on making their application stronger. I do want to point out that although grades and experience are important, the personal statement is what separates you from other candidates. One thing I noticed is that a lot of people tend to write their whole essay summarizing their past experiences. I think what is more important is to have your essay focused on what you are doing right now and your nursing aspirations. What are your nursing goals? How did your experiences in the past shape you to have these goals and equipped you with the skills necessary for it? How do you plan to bring value to the nursing field and what really drives you? Also, look at the mission and vision statement of the school. Does this align with your goals? These are some questions to think about. Since the admission counselors already have your resume, they know what your experiences are and they are reading your essay to evaluate your character. Good luck!
