Confused
Tht is good information to have; my guilty conscience is killing me not letting my part time employer know what's going on. The good thing about my license at least is it doesn't expire til sept. And by tht point; I'm sure I would've heard from the board by tht time bc I thought the same; once they ask for my renewal; they'll see tht it's flagged. No one else will hire me once they see I'm under investigation. I totally understand but it just sux. Glad I have a small financial cushion and am giving up my place and moving in w family. Dilaudid was the death of my life as I knew it.

Confused
Thanks; I really think this will be it for me; if I was only a few yrs in; I'm SURE I'd fight for my license but at this point; I'm reading what others go/ have gone thru idk if I have the strength to go thru it. The other issue is; of course, now what??.. all Ik how to do is be a nurse. Considering just getting a phlebotomy certification and hope eventually I can get a position doing tht. I just know tht I will MISS parts of being a nurse.

Confused
Thank you; when you look at my license on the boards website; tho active; it s states active/ under investigation which is is is like kryptonite. I may as well already b suspended. Most applications say "unencumbered" and oc I must divulge why I'm under investigation; plus they can find out the charges from the board. I don't know how I allowed this to spiral into this.

Confused
I was turned into the board for diversion; and am currently under investigation. I was told that I would be under investigation for 3-6 months and would hear from the board at the end of the investigation. Currently am only working sporadically bc I resigned bf being terminated from primary job; and only working sporadically at part time bc they aren't aware I'm under investigation. i hav several questions. 1)Has anyone ever been hired while under active investigation? 2) I'm assuming ppl who talk about their contracts are referring to the diversion programs; I realize it varies from state to state but I'd like to know how long some of u were under the contract before being allowed to practice again? 3) and what types of jobs were you able to get in the meantime. im 30yrs in; disillusioned/ frustrated and burned out of nursing at this point. I'm doing the math; and it seems between suspension and the Amy of time it may take to find a job; I'm looking at 5 yrs; or so. I will do the program obviously bc I don't want jail time but I'm in the beginning stages of this nightmare tht I caused; I could use the support. lastly; has anyone ever been able to get a job as a CNA while license suspended? tia

What was it like to be a nurse in the 1980s
Caps; white dresses; white hose... patients could smoke in their rooms.... staff could smoke at nurses station and there were ashtrays at the desk.... there were med nurses who gave meds/ blood to the entire floor; and floor nurses that did everything else.... We still counted narcotics manually; and wrote them in the narc book.... we gave alcoholics beer; and Jim bean..... there was liquid cocaine in Th narc box for our ENT patients..... (Nasal packing) during my OR rotation; they used Everclear to preserve specimens..... u really didn't speak to dr's unless you were the charge nurse; we would tell the CN whtever issues we were having w the patients; she would call the dr and get the orders. I went months as a floor nurse w/o speaking to a dr over the phone..... we we would take the "dsg cart" from room to room w the surgeons for rounds and THEY changed their surgical dsgs.... pts had to PAY for their tv's to be turned on every morning..... we we still had semi- private rooms; Ik they still exist but it was STANDARD back then; also had 2 4-bed wards on my floor. If I had a dollar for all the musical beds we played bc a white person didn't want to be in the Same room as a black person..... patients came in for surgery and were worked up the day before..... lap surgeries weren't common yet; everything was "open" ppl would b in hospital for days for a gallbladder or an Appe.... Glass chest tubes.... Urine dipsticks for glucose.... HIV pts on isolation..... we mixed our potassium in our IVF.... MARS/labs/orders all handwritten and done by the secretary..... kardexes..... imsurance wasnt a rip off..... ppl were not nearly as sick as a whole as they are when admitted these days.... we still gave back rubs at night as part of "hs care" and the charge nurse would literally ask the patients if they'd gotten their back rub for the night. We also passed out juice; diabetic snacks; and picked up our own trash..... shifts were 8h; the paperwork was a FRACTION of wht it is now; and we actually had time to CARE and LEARN about our patients. It was not uncommon to have 7 or 8 pts; but the acuity was MUCH less than now; and It was RARELY overwhelming as compared to putn fires out all day with 3/4 pts..... pts tht are now considered stepdown pts; or even just busy floor pts would've bn n ICU then..... peds pts were put n rooms w adults if our SMALL pediatric unit was full. And yes; iv taken taken of peds/ adults same shift w one less pt as the peds pt counted as 2..... i could go on and on but that's just off the top of my head

I surely believe we were respected more then by patients and their families; but I believe physicians; and physician extenders respect us more now; and take our thoughts/concerns more seriously now; there's not so much of a "fight" when we're trying to advocate for our patients.

bullying? racism? or overreacting?
This sounds like a hot mess; and a horrible unit to work on. My unit has everything from new grads to nurses w30+ yrs experience; and none of us would b floating around w 0-1 pts "helping" while others had 4-5. Again; sounds like a horrible workplace situation w an obvious clique. Sad.

bullying? racism? or overreacting?
Exactly; who let tht slide?? Why would u throw a new nurse to the wolves; and allow any other nurse; new; seasoned; black; white or green walk around with just ONE patient. How does no one notice the desparage n the assignment???...
-
bullying? racism? or overreacting?
Quick decision to NOT give the nurse with ONE patient an admission when other have 4 or 5..... umm.... Nope.

So I kind of messed up
This person cannot be serious.... u can take ANY legal narcotic tht u have a prescription for. They can and will require documentation of a prescription. It has happened to me before. And yes; I had a prescription and had to provide a copy from the pharmacy. Good luck to you. I hope things work out.

Leaving After 10 Months
If you have the public health job lined up; and they are willing to take you w/o a yrs experience; I will say 1) why are they willing to take you w/o much experience??? is it a high turnover position; are they desperate to fill the position??? 2) if you feel that the job is right for you; and ur not walkn into a hornets nest; then 3) u should definitely stay prn at the hospital. U will continue to see things in the hospital tht u won't otherwise. That experience is invaluable; and in the future will be able to say tht u kept ur foot in the door with acute care. If u want to go back; ur not starting the hiring process all over again
