  1. I worked at an Inpatient detox for a few years. It was in the of the inner city. I guess the best advice I can give you is be real and be ready to teach. Know you substances like the back of your hand. Know how they are made, distributed and their effects on the body from start to finish. Addiction is serious with several mental health components, so brush up on behavioral health also. You are going to be looked at as a source of information. I would have all types of anatomy and physiology questions thrown at me. So know your stuff.
  2. Yeah I remember when I was a kid. I used to get bruised up, scraped up, banged up and still keep going. It came along with being an active, fearless competitive kid. No ice packs, lol. No nurse contact for the fear of being restricted from my daily before school game of wall ball ( the booties version). Yes. No ice pack for you if your symptoms don't call for it. Get back out there and come back with a real injury!
  3. I worked in the infectious disease department of a clinic for many years and almost all schools/ higher education facilities are requiring to have their attendees show proof of immunity from Measles Mumps and Rubella and Varicella. I suggest you get them if you are lacking immunity. Also many are requesting Hep A/B, Tdap and Influenza also. When you attend clinicals, these will be very important because of the close contact with medically frail individuals.
  4. Start off at an inner city community clinic. You will be able to build on your resources and interact with many different providers.
