Hello. Just wanted to join the thread. I also applied to SJSU for Fall. I'm surprised we still haven't heard yet. I got accepted into SFSU's program through the college of extended learning at Canada College. I'm not sure which school is my first choice, so if I get accepted to SJSU I have a lot of thinking to do to make the right decision.

I keep having a constant inner dialog with myself debating over which nursing program would be better for me. I haven't even been accepted into either of them and won't know if I am or not until the end of April. I will have to decide which school to go to the following week so won't have much time to think about it. If I happen to get accepted into both schools I want to think it through now rather than at the last minute. I am hoping you guys can help. Both of these programs have NCLEX pass rates that average in the mid 80's. San Jose State has a 3 year program and it is a 20 minute commute (with no traffic) from where I live in Los Gatos, but there is usually traffic. San Francisco State is a 2 year program. I would be in the Sequoia program, and the classes are taken at Canada College, which is about a 30 minute commute without traffic, but there is often heavy traffic. I may end up driving to SFSU campus (1 hour drive) for certain upper division course work as well. Also, because this program is not at the main campus tuition is much higher, at $500 per unit. I can't decide if I want SJSU, which is one year longer, but closer to home and cheaper; or if SFSU would be better because it is a year less so that may make up for the added driving and more expensive tuition. I know people who have done the SJSU program and really liked it, but I have not heard much about the SFSU program at Canada. If any one here has done this program, let me know what you thought of it. Thanks so much for any input!

I keep wondering if I will have to drive to SFSU campus for other classes, but it sounds like you are in the process of figuring that out yourself. Also, thanks for the offer dunce002917. I'm not much of a driver and am trying to mentally prepare myself for lots of driving once I'm in nursing school (if I get in that is). I live in Los Gatos/ San Jose and have been spoiled up until now with pretty short commutes.

Nursing has a lot of options, but even if you do get a nursing degree you don't necessarily have to get a job as a nurse. I know a nurse that does home care, maybe you could look into that as a possibility, it is a lot slower paced and one-on-one.

The first day of anything new is almost never indicative of what it will really be like. I remember all the first days I have had at new jobs and they were just scary and stressful. Try not to make judgements right away and just learn as much as you can.

Hi Tara, I just had my interview yesterday (March 7th). I have so many questions and would love to ask you a few of them, maybe not all of them at once so I don't overwhelm you. I know this is probably jumping the gun a bit, but do you have to take any classes at the SFSU campus (like certain upper division courses needed to graduate)? Also, did you have to drive all around the area to different hospitals. I live in Los Gatos and am wondering how much commuting to expect- if I get in that is. Finally, the program is only two years right? SJSU and CSUEB have 3 years programs, is this one accelerated? Thanks so much!
