  1. I am currently an alternate for Fall '06 and can be called up until the day class starts which is Aug 14th. I myself really appreciate Just a CRNA's post and insight into this topic. It is really hard waiting and wondering if someone will decline a position and if I will get that magical call. It would be nice to think that all nurses out there pursuing anesthesia were kind enough to act in a professional manner, but I also realize that some things become an oversight when you are exstatic about going to anesthesia school!:wink2:
  2. I am currently an alternate for this fall at Wake Forest. If I should get that glorious call I will not be applying anyhwere else!! But I have applied to Western Carolina (new program slated to begin Jan '07 pending accredidation) deadline was June 15th and I haven't heard anything yet. I will also be reapplying to Wake Forest as well as applying to UNC Charlotte. Planning on sending my apps in to those schools in the beginning of August. Good luck to everyone out there sending in applications! Keep us posted, especially on those dreadfull interviews!
  3. Thank you for your reply! This information sounds very encouraging. I will contact the director of the program instead of the assistant this time and see if I get a response. If they are down a faculty member then I can understand the delay! Thanks again for the information, it was very helpful. If anything else arrises about this program please post!!
  4. I guess no one out there knows any exciting information about this program that they would like to share! Oh well, I was hoping somebody would reply because I haven't gotten any replies back from the school. This could be a sign!!
  5. Hey guys! Just wondering if any of you could give me some detailed information about Mountain State University's CRNA program. I know that it is considered a "distance learning" program. I have received some information from the school but would like to hear from any of you out there already attending the program, or from anyone who has some information about it. I know it is a relatively new program and apparently the only one in the country that offers coursework delivery in this manner. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! LLL123:roll
  6. I am an alternate at WFUBMC. I received my letter at the end of Dec. I have know idea how many alternates they have chosen. I know that they have already "called up" two alternates thus far. It does make you feel like you really don't know what to do. I spoke with the assistant director of the program and she said alternates can be called all the way into Aug (the month the program starts!) Good Luck to all of you and I hope you hear something soon!!! LLL123
  7. Hey Case! I am also an alternate for CRNA school at WFUBMC for this Fall. It is like living in limbo, but I am trying to be optimistic about it. They could have said NO WE DON'T WANT YOU!!! Plus it gives me a better chance to get in next year and to learn more in the process!! Good Luck, maybe you will get a call soon!!:)
  8. I feel for you texanjj!! It must be excruciating working with a friend that has already been accepted while you are dying inside wondering if you will get in!! I interviewed on 11-15 and haven't heard anything yet. Letters are supposed to be sent out by the last week in Dec. and waiting is torture. The school that I applied to has actually called a few people that work in other ICU's in the hospital where I do and granted them early admission. Although it makes me happy for them I am getting very worried:confused: . I am like you trying to stay busy and focus on the upcoming holidays to keep my mind from going nuts!! Good luck to you and I hope you hear something soon!!!
  9. I wish that I could put all of this stress and worry in a box and tuck it away! This time waiting for an answer seems more excruciating than other things that I have anticipated because the interview committee's decision determines what I do with the next year of my life!! I keep telling myself that if I don't get in I will just continue to get more ICU experience and take more graduate level classes and reapply next year, but these self-reassurances don't help the constant feeling of nausea :uhoh21: and fear of rejection!!! I want to be in anesthesia school so badly I can taste it!! I know that there are several SRNA-wanna- be's out there going through the same thing!! I just hope somehow I can find away to get through the next few weeks without to much torment!!
  10. I totally feel your pain:crying2: !!! I interviewed yesterday and today I think my nerves are more wrecked than before the interview!!! They told us yesterday that we would be notified possibly by the end of December. My Gosh, THAT IS SIX WEEKS AWAY!!! I'm sorry that I do not have any encouraging advice to give you, but I feel the same way about knowing even if I am not accepted. This is going to be the hardest thing to wait on that I have ever experienced!! Good luck, hope you hear something soon!!
  11. I am definitely going to do more research on this topic and try to understand where both sides are coming from. Since nurse anesthesia is my career goal I find it very important to gain as much knowledge as I can about political issues and where the profession stands. I am sure that the more involved I become in anesthesia I will witness more of these kinds of uneducated attitudes about CRNA's.
  12. I work in a large academic medial center in the SICU. I am also interviewing next week for anesthesia school!!! (this is a whole other discussion!!:imbar ) Today while at work one of the anesthesia residents came to preop one of my patients for tracheostomy surgery in the morning. As I was chit chatting with him about anesthesia school the resident for my patient's primary team came over and joined our conversation. The surgical resident has made comments to me about calling anesthetists "NINJAS". I asked him about this one day and he said because they are "silent asassins". As we were joking today I told the anesthesia resident about this "nick" and the surgery resident said that only applied to CRNA's not MDA's. The anesthesia resident in turn made several ugly remarks about CRNA's and their incompetence. This infuriated me! I (very nicely) pointed out to them that there is incompetence in every field, MD's included! I have been reading in these forums about the struggle for power between these two groups of professionals, but have yet to witness any of it untill today. I just don't understand why MD's have such a problem with the practice of CRNA's! Any one have any "reasonable" ideas?
  13. Thanks for your input! I know alot of people who think this program is very political and there is no rhyme or reason to why some get in and some do not. All I can do is go in there and do my best and hope that they think I am worthy to be in the program. Say a quick prayer for me on Nov 15TH!! Thanks, LLL123:)
  14. Hey to all! This is the first time I have posted even though I have read through just about all of the threads here and in the CRNA forum. I am interviewing for nurse anesthesia school on Nov 15 at WFUBMC in Winston-Salem, NC. I have tried to prepare myself but the closer it gets the more nervous I feel ! This school is a bit different from others in that you sit in front of an interview board of about 15 people which include the program director and assistant director, MDA's, CRNA's, SRNA's, representatives from some of the surrounding hospitals that you will do clinicals at, etc. I joke about it seeming like you are in front of the parole board!!! Any suggestions on how to come across confident and any tips on how to win over the interview committee? I am committed to going to anesthesia school and I would love to get in this time! Any responses would definitely be appreciated!!
