  1. This recert class is run by two very prominent and talented CRNA's. You will be prepared to reenter the practice arena after thier class. Good Luck!
  2. I attend Samford and am very impressed with the program. We have a new Director who is very well known Nationally. Samford is not a program that "weeds" out students. Just the opposite is true. All of the instructors are more than willing to assist you in any way gain the knowledge you need to be successful. Clinical sites are in state and within a reasonable driving distance. You would not be disappointed if you have the opportunity to attend this program. Best of luck on your journey!
  3. I can relate to your feelings of anxiety! Starting school again after being a working professional for over 20 years with an abrupt stop to income is beginning to take its toll on my excitement of finally starting on the road to accomplishing a long awaited goal. I am ready to get started so we can begin the countdown! Good luck to you !
  4. I sugggest that you speak to each school you are applying. I have an ADN from 25 yrs ago, a BSN from 20 yrs ago, a MSN from 15 yrs ago and a NP from 12 years....all of my classes were considered without additional requirements at every school I applied or made inquiry. There may be some exception to the rule. i did have to retake my GRE that was over 10 yrs old. Good luck!
  5. Just my perspective...but as an NP and a former flight nurse and now a SRNA ... I think that once you get out of the flight world you will realize it was the funnest and most challenging position you have ever held...until CRNA. Make a decision and put all of your energy behind it. IF CRNA is what you really want to accomplish, fly extra shifts and kill two birds with one stone...make extra money having a great time and getting an extra fix as a flight nurse.
  6. You may not want to even consider this option..but it is an option...the Army reserve will pay up to 50,000.00 in loans and give you a stipend of 1000.00 a month., You owe them two years for every year they assist. There may be soemone who can speak to this in more depth but that is the short and simple.
  7. Can you provide the references related to the personal headware..THANKS!
  8. Hey guys...did anyone get a letter saying that Samford has still not made a decision on your application? Is that the same thing as an alternate?Yesterday 06:22 PM It is my understanding that this is an "Alternante" letter. Many people who interveiw at Samford will aslo interveiw with UAB in the next week or so. If they are accepted to both programs and then chose UAB then you may have a chance. I know its a long shot...but it is still a possibility! Dont; forget to talk to the Director and see what could make you a stronger applicant the next go around. Keep the Faith!
  9. I have spoken to countless people who have assured me that working and CRNA school do not go hand in hand. I like you thought it would not be a problem and it would be better not to put my family in debt. I currently work 60-70 hrs as an NP now. But I have definantly decided to listen to those who have and are going before me...their experience has been tested and they have all echoed the same thing ... No matter how much you plan, you really can't understand until you actually experience the load requirements. Instead of planning to work in the future, do extra shifts now. IS it really worth taking a chance on after working so hard to get accepted! Just my thoughts..
  10. I have recently read about the Army's STRAP program. Does anyone know if the Air Force has a similar program? Thanks
  11. I am currently 43 and will entering CRNA program in June. My age was looked at as a positive..not a negative. Go for it!
  12. This topic is commonly discussed around any of us in Advanced Practice. I have been an Advanced Practice Acute Care NP for over 10 years. In my personal experience I found and continue to find that we need to be our own PR agency. I have also reaffirmed that mutual Respect is earned. OUR patients knew that we were each an intricate part of their care..the surgeon did the surgery...I took care of everything else. I can't do the surgery and he can't take care of "everything" else. We have mutual respect as professionals. Communication with your patients provides them a foundation of knowledge...in the end they all know who to call if they really need assistance or want something answered..the NP! But yes..in the room and to their friends it is all about the MD ..until he walks out and then they say.."this is the person who makse sure everything is taken care of for me..he could'nt do it without her help"..patients/NUrses/Consulting MD's see us not as a surgeon or an NP but as a team ! and I remind them that individually we could not provide the care to them they are receiving..that is why we see the importanace of each others role. (Over 1000 Cardiothoracic cases/year by one MD) As I enter this new area of advanced practivce..I willl have to once again gain the confidence and respect of those I practice. I hope to develop the same communciation with my new patient/professional group and foster a TEAM environment. Maybe I am Polyanna..but my experience tells me otherwise. Just my two cents worth...
  13. NP and CRNA are VERY different! I have worked as an NP for the past 11 years...it has served a great puprose and helped me reach goals and milestones. Shadow both Advance practices if you are unsure at this point which one you want to pursue. Good luck on your decision!
  14. Congrats to those who have been accepted. Those who are waiting to hear in January..remain positive. I do not plan to interview at UAB. Great school..but samford works best for me. Keep the Faith!
  15. I received my letter of acceptance from Samford today! Good Luck to all who applied in the past and who have an interveiw pending! God is in Control and has a plan for everyone! Keep the Faith!
