Yes, you are right. What we learn from the mistake is very important and usually once mistake is made it is not repeated by most nurses. I only wish I could sleep at night when I do make a mistake. Losing sleep is my biggest struggle.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the support.

Thanks for your kind words. I think I will have forgiven myself if I was a new nurse. I will keep my heads up on Monday. I appreciate your advice.
  4. I made a stupid mistake. A pt forgot to use his antibiotics and I give him sips of water to use it few minutes before his procedure. I bet the nurse director will never assign me to preop again. I am mostly in PACU. I feel so stupid. Unfortunately, when you make stupid mistakes like that, you are forever tagged dumb. The Dr. came to tell me not to give the next patient I was preoping any food or water. I just felt useless. The patient did fine the surgery was delayed a little though.
  5. This Just happened to me. I know Phenergan can be irritating, but did not know it can be so dangerous! I am so worried now. I work in the PACU. I gave the pt 12.5 mg of Phenergan (mixed in 10cc) and 12.5 of demerol. We flush with 10 pre and post med administration. After about 5 min the patient was still complaining of pain so I checked and saw a big lump! I elevated her arms and kept checking before transferring for discharge. I documented the event, but didn't inform Dr. I just told my colleague that the Demerol infiltrated (I was more concerned about the need to let my colleagues know there will be no narcotics waste since patient probably didn't get the initial dose). NS was also running on the site. Her hands didn't change color, but again I wasn't checking for complications I just treated it like regular infiltration. How did your patient turnout? Did you know? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the reply David. I don’t know how common it is here in the USA as I just started with oncology. I just got out of orientation and I am thinking of leaving.
  7. Thanks!
  8. I did a PICC care today and just remembered while on my bed that I didn’t flush with heparin. I flush with 10cc each lumen(3). The pt will be back next week for infusion. Any harm done? Thanks.
  9. Hello. Sorry I don’t have answers to your question. I have a question for you. I gave Doxorubicin IV push with NS. I Checked for blood return with every 2-3 ml, unfortunately I forgot to close the NS and got NS mixed with Doxorubicin. Will this affect the effectiveness of Doxorubicin? Thanks! I just started with oncology infusion and I am a nervous wreck! Affecting my sleep and life!
  10. I am almost 39 and young to nursing (3 years). I changed my career because of the dynamic nature of nursing. If I don't like a field of nursing, I can change. As for the pay cut, I think it depends on what is more important to you and most nursing jobs pay with respect to experience.
  11. I am a relatively new nurse graduated with my BSN December 2019. I haven’t had a job for a year because my spouse job moves him often and had a baby (passed due to MTM). So this has affected my skills and confidence. My current job is chemotherapy infusion. I just got out of orientation, but pull back because of mistakes I made. 1. I hang mag/k. I programmed the pump and connected the mag/k down stream instead of up stream as pigybag. So med was infusing to gravity. 2. Pharmacy forgot to give me one premed and I didn’t realize on time. I already started the chemo ( this happened in a different site from my usual site) I told my boss and I stopped the Chemo and gave the one remaining premed. The nurses at this center are not supportive. I think they told my supervisor not to have me back. One of the nurses jokingly said to me “quit”. Because of the way the nurses treat me, the MA was so disrespectful. My supervisor said I will only go back in emergency situations( desperately in need of nurses). This center is close to my house. Today my supervisors followed me to hang all chemotherapy and premeds at a different center. She pull me back to orientation for 2 weeks and will reassess. I am walking on egg shells because my every move is watched. I am so afraid to make a mistake. I feel so ashamed and I can’t sleep at night. While my boss was with me, I hanged a premed with D5W because the pt was getting a chemotherapy not compatible with NS. This was how I was trained. My boss asked another nurse if the premed was compatible because there’s was no information online and she said no it wasn’t compatible. I changed to NS. I asked the pharmacist and he confirmed that all the premed I am giving is COMPATIBLE! I went back to tell the more experienced nurse that it was compatible and more nurses confirmed that hanging D5W was how they will have done it. The pt was so scared while this was unfolding and later showed symptoms of anxiety. I had to stop the infusion for a while. My boss later told me to do it the way I was taught. My spouse suggests that I go back to PACU due to frequent mistakes and the fear of losing my license ( PACU is my background), but I don’t want to keep changing jobs besides, the hours works for me. Kindly give me any suggestions and advice on how to be a safe nurse and if it is a good idea to stay with this job. I have lost every confidence I had. Thanks
  12. Thanks, I appreciate it!
  13. Thanks so much for your input. Am so undecided. I don't want to take a loan, and I don't have the extra fund for paying out of pocket. Someone tell me what you will do if in my shoes. I don't have to retake anatomy with Charity, and financial aid is sure for me. LSU I have to retake anatomy, but not sure of financial help, but I will be done with my bachelors. PLS HELP!!!!
  14. Hello house. I need your help regarding my acceptance to both LSU and Charity. My first choice is LSU but I am scared financial Aid may not cover all the tuition (Am a stay at home mom, only my husband works). I don't mind taking Anatomy again even though I got A in both 1&2. My major concern is financial when I compare LSU to charity. Does anyone know if financial aid covers basic tuition for LSU?
  15. I will like to know if financial aid covers all tuition for the nursing program at LSU. Thanks
  16. yes the LSU HESI I took did not include a&p. Am talking it again because Charity requires the a&p part of the exams.
  17. Thanks. I was worried because LSU does not have the A&P part in the HESI exam
  18. Did anyone answer your question? am also wondering if charity will accept HESI that I took for LSU.
  19. My HESI score was very low. 79.67. My GPA is 3.9. I have Arts and one humanities left. I have completed both a&p 1&2. I applied anyway. I didn't prepare for the HESI. It really not a difficult exam.
