I need pro tips on how to better showcase my skills and experience
Thank you for taking the time to read my post! Here's my background in chronological order: I received my BSN from the Philippines in 2006. Migrated to the US right after that; did not take the NCLEX cause I was unsure what to do with my life at that point. In 2010 I decided to join the US Air Force, but since I didn't have my license and I wasn't a citizen back then, I could not practice nursing so I enlisted as Cardiopulmonary Technician. In 2012 I was assigned in cardiology department were I did EKGs, stress test and cardiac sonography. In 2013 I became proficient with cardiac sonography (echo) that I did that for 2 yrs. In 2015 I was assigned in Cardiac cath/EP lab, where I assisted cardiologist with diagnostic coronary angiogram, pacemaker/crtd implant and EP study and ablations. In 2016 I challenged NCLEX and passed (10 yrs after being out of school)-- and became an RN. I was deployed as a Respiratory Therapist from July 2016-Jan of 2017 to Niger Africa as part of the Air Force field surgical team. In Feb 2017 I passed my Respiratory Registry. Currently, I am the manager of cardiology services in an Air Force base. Getting ready to challenge the cardiac sonography boards in December. The thing is, I am separating from the Air Force in March 2018 so I applied for a med-surge position in our local hospital. I was asked for an interview and the hiring manager seemed eager to get me on board. She offered a 3 hour shadow to get the feel of the department, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The following day she called and asked what I thought and I said I was very interested to be a part of her team. My application was then forwarded to the recruiter and everything seemed going well. I had my employment verification, background check and my reference input done and was getting scheduled for the orientation only for the recruiter to turn around and said "they did not catch the fact that I didn't have nursing experience". "They will call me back" was the last words I heard from them.. I have emailed the recruiter to follow-up on my progress but no response as of late. I went to the company's website and on my profile, under the job title that I applied for, it said "not selected". I felt bummed... I know I don't have nursing experience.. but I have been working in the medical field for 8 yrs.. I just need some input.. Thank you!

Oh, you gotta give this one a try. I failed my first try and succeeded on the second. I read Lacharity in PDA form, wrote down answers and did it over and over again until I have everything almost perfect. Sat on the test and aced delegation and prioritization questions. I did Hurst as well for the content part.

have you tried LaCharity? everything delegation and prioritization related is on the book. every chapter is short (30 questions) so it's not overwhelming!

Failing nclex 6 times
That's what making me nervous right now. I just recently passed NCLEX-RN after 10 years from school. I was educated in the Philippines and didn't take the boards back home. I thought that I couldn't challenge the US boards since I wasn't licensed back home until I called CGFNS and they told me some state doesn't require me to have one. I joined the Air Force and got into the medical field. Worked as Respiratory Therapist for couple years, then worked as Cardiac sonographer for 1 1/2 years. Then finally trained into Cardiac Cath Lab/ EP lab and been doing it for 3 years now. Fell in love/still in love with it. Working in the cath lab just gave me a different view with Nursing and I knew it then that I want to become a Cath/EP nurse.. Now it's making me weary that managers are going to look at the gap between school and passing the NCLEX.

I was educated in the Philippines and didn't get my licensure before coming to the states. I applied in Ohio and it's one of the few states that doesn't require you to have one from you country of origins as long as you meet the rest of the requirements such as: cgfns validation, toefl, and pass background check..etc..

Hi mdkilburn, Try Lacharity! It's mainly about delegation, prioritization and management. You will find the questions such as which patient to delegate to floating nurse or for lpn or UAP.

Yep , 10 yrs! I graduated from a foreign school and english isn't my first language but I had to at least try. Don't give up! Keep pushing forward and give yourself time to recover and more time to study.

Best NCLEX prep?
I took NCLEX-RN on the 14 of January 2016 and passed. I did Hurst and play with Saunders cd on and off and did LaCharity PDA a month before I took the test and the latter was I think the reason why I passed.

Let me know! All the things you mentioned above such as: what to delegate to float nurse, which will you see first or what would be the appropriate patient to delegate to LPN or UAP you can find in that book!

Hi Maja! I had to take it twice but passed the second time. I would think ventricular arrhythmias with K being low would be more of a priority than seizure with low sodium. Definitely recomment LaCharity prioritizatiob and delegation PDA.

Failed it once and passed the second time. I did HURST too but the only difference is, I did LaCharity book for prioritization and delegation few weeks before the test. To think it's been 10 years since I graduated Nursing School.

Thanks to LaCharity I passed NCLEX-RN
I failed my first try using Saunders cd+book. Took it again and passed using HURST and LaCharity. I can honestly say, it's the LaCharity book that helped me the most since it's geared toward Prioritization, delegation etc.. I read and answered the questions few weeks before I took the board. A little background about me: I graduated from foreign school 10 years ago. Came to the U.S with the hopes of becoming an officer in the Armed forces. But since I wasn't a citizen at that time I couldn't commission, so I enlisted instead and forgot about my nursing dream. Enlisted in the Air Force where I perform Respiratory, Cardiology and Pulmonary procedures. Was chosen to do echocardiogram and loved it for 1 1/2 years, then became a Cardiac Cath Lab/EP technician which I super adore and decided to contacted BON and maybe if I am still able to test which I did. Test the first time with limited core content knowledge and failed, that's why I did Hurst and LaCharity to bring me back to the basic. I am so glad I passed and now I can fulfill my dream of becoming a Cardiac Cath Lab/ EP Nurse.
