Nursing@Simmons FNP MAY 2016 Cohort
Desertsky These are my EXACT concern. I actually like the idea of live classes and being able to ask questions and hear questions asked... However it limits your flexibility. Yet still, the cost of the program is something I can't seem to wrap my mind around. I ask the question: Do I really want 60K worth of debt? That question is usually followed by Do I want to stress out about trying to find a clinical preceptor? Simmons does all that for you. I don't know what I will do. Ultimately my education is of utmost importance. I don't want to shell out 60K, but if I havd to I will.

Samford FNP students
I have applied to Samford and I am already accepted into another FNP program. Still waiting to hear back from Samford. I always look at different FNP program's curriculum... I noticed Samford's program requires students to take Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Pathophysiology and Physiology AND Advanced Pharmacology all together and in the first semester as it seems most schools separate those classes. Hopefully previous students can shed some light on how it is possible to cover a wealth of info in just one semester. Did it seem like a weed-out semester? Were study groups your saving grace? What kind of support did you recieve from the instructors? When you start grad school, you want tomake sure you are making a good investment so any insight previous students can provide would be greatly appreciated!

That makes a world of difference. I'm trying to decide if that ( clinical placement) is worth the extra $30,000 in tuition. Also found the below article. I am torn between Simmons and my Alma Mater which has a very good program as well, but is half the cost. U.S. News & World Report Ranks Nursing@Simmons Among Nation's Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs

DNP vs FNP
I am applying for Fall 2016 for DNP but only because I have the time/opporutnity, not because it will change anything I currently do as a FNP. You see, this seems to be the general consensus. It's almost as if people are going for their DNP typically to earn more letters/credentials. Not necessarily because it contributes to their practice in any way. I'm just trying to decide if I really want to do that... The main reason why I am leaning towards it is because it seems later on down the road, this will be a requirement. Everyone who is not prepared at the doctorate level will probably have to go back or be "grandfathered" in. I just wanted to hear from NP's themselves, what are the specific benefits they see in returning for their doctorate degree other than additional letters, credentials and prestige of being called "doctor"... Especially if they feel they have learned all they need to know to do their jobs adequately.

DNP vs FNP
The title is prob a bit misleading. It should probably read APNP/ NP vs DNP.

DNP vs FNP
Hello all! I have applied to several FNP schools and currently waiting on admission. I am seriously considering going for RN to DNP. I work in an environment where there are a lot of nurse practitioners and mostly all of them say they will not be returning for their doctorate degree. The general argument is that it is "unnecessary ". So I wanted to hear from other people who are currently going through or have completed their NP program. Will you be returning for your doctorate? Why or Why not? Also, did you feel prepared to take on your role as an advanced practice nurse? Or did you think to yourself "I don't know enough, I need to go back to school"?

Anyone applying to Samford for FNP?
I was told we wouldn't find out until after April 1, but nothing specific. I did not take the GRE and I have 6 years experience. I would hope their final decisions are based on the candidate as a whole and not one single criterion. If that is the case, someone with 1 year experience could be accepted over someone with 6 years experience. Samford is a great school, For our own sakes, I hope we get accepted! Waiting is tough, but it won't be for very much longer. We will soon find out our fate! Lol
