November Visa Bulletin came out!
Hi! I would just like to know if my case will still be affected by this retrogression. My family and I were interviewed last Oct. 11. the consul asked a letter of explanation from the NBI re- the remarks "no criminal record" stated in my spouse's NBI clearance. the letter of explanation together with our passports were submitted back to the US embassy on the following day, Oct. 12. We were told that the consul will again review the case. Up to now we still haven't got our passports back. Will we still be affected by this retrogression even if we've had our interview already? Our PD is Nov. 15, 2005. This really worries me.

Arrival in US -- what to expect, what to do
Hi, Everyone! I have a question re- college enrolment for my youngest child. At 15 yrs. old, she has just graduated in high school last week. Since we are still awaiting approval of our petition, we have decided to enroll her in college here. We are looking into courses that can be of use to her or can be credited in America. Since she loves dogs and cats, she wants to take Vet. Medicine or anything that has to do with these animals. I have searched in the Internet and there are 2 courses that she can choose from-- Vet. Technician or Vet. Assistant. To be accepted for Vet. tech., she has to be 18 yrs old or older. Besides that there are pre-requisite subjects that are needed. As for Vet. Assistant, I haven't come up with any pre-requisite from the net. Anyway, since there are very few schools here that has Vet. med. courses, and since this is a very expensive course that we cannot afford, we were planning to enroll her in Nursing for now. She doesn't mind taking up nursing temporarily. Do you think this is wise, since there may be subjects in Nursing that she probably will need later, like Anatomy and Physiology, more English and Math courses, etc.? Do you think these subjects will be credited in the US? Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Agencies and contracts
Thanks, Suzanne. Before the contract was sent to me, I requested for the type of facility I want to be assigned to, as well as the location. When I received the contract, I had a lawyer go over it before I signed it. Yes, it has a cancellation clause re- paying back the expenses incurred by the employer during the process depending on the time the contract will lapse. Sorry, I forgot to mention this earlier. Although I am not really worried as regards the expenses they have invested on me. So far, it's still very minimal compared to others. I have spent for all my exams as well as for my visascreen. But I was curious as regards the salary deduction, so this is what bothers me ...that if the specific amount is not indicated in the contract, is it legal for them to do so? Yes, I guess I need to compute, right? Anyway, as you said...I have to live with whatever I signed. I pray that I made the right choice.

Agencies and contracts
The good thing about the agency where I applied in is that I was given the choice of the city where I would like to be assigned to. It was also stipulated in the contract as well as in the ETA(some no.?) about the salary that we will be getting. However, as you mentioned, Suzanne, there was nothing in the contract that mentions about housing, legal fees, nor the salary deduction that they will be taking from us. The agency just mentioned in her emails about these benefits. When I asked her about the salary deduction in one of my emails, I just felt that she purposely veered from answering the question. Anyway, we had good feedbacks from the friends who preceeded us, and are now Immigrant nurses there. True enough there was salary deduction (of around $1-2/hr), & 1 month housing. But we still don't know the amount of the contract we signed into. If the amount is not stipulated in the contract, can we contest this if they ask a certain huge amt. should we decide to get out of this in the future? The contract is 2-way, right?

I have signed a contract to Alameda County. Hoping to be there with my family by late next year or perhaps early 2007.

Aftermath of retrogression. What to expect?
:) Hi Everybody! You may want to check out http://www.shusterman.com. There is a tickler re- Senate Judiciary voted to the recapture of some 90,000 visas for EB3, etc. If this has really been approved, will these visas be for Schedule A again?

CA RN license renewal for a foreign RN graduate
Same here. I love to learn as well. That is why nursing is already my 3rd course. My only concern re- continuing ed. is that it may add to the delay in my license renewal... that is, if I'll have to take it when I get to the States yet. Now that I know that doing it in the computer is allowed by the Board, then I don't think there is much of a problem. Thanks again! :)

CA RN license renewal for a foreign RN graduate
:) Hello, EVERYONE! I am a new member of this forum, but not a new reader. I have been following threads from this forum for several months now. I have been trying to log in but I've been having problems with my computer back then. Now that it is fixed, I'm happy to be able to finally become a member. I have a question that I hope anyone of you readers can answer. I'm still a Filipino, who fortunately passed the CA NCLEX in 2003 (I have a visitor's visa) and got my license in Dec. of the same year. My CA license will expire this coming Dec. My problem is that I cannot renew it because I still have no SSS no. since I'm still currently residing and working in my country. My petition is still underway, but it's still a long way to go. I emailed the CA BON and was informed that I would need to submit proof of 30 hrs of Continuing education to be able to renew my license after it's expiry. Although, I have read in their website that one can apply for an Exemption for the Continuing Education requirement if "he/she can submitproof that he/she is a resident of another country for more than a year and currently employed". Does the word currently employed means I am employed specifically as an RN or any job will suffice? does this rule apply to me (being a foreigner)? I have inquired about this renewal and even explained about my situation; but the person who replied to my email did not mention anything about exemptions. Please enlighten me, anyone?
