Why are emergency nurses not considered critical care nurses?
Hi Again, No harsh thoughts or words intended. It is not about the TITLE. You are an ER nurse with a passion for critical skills and interventions in your ER arena. Yes, I have many years experience PEDS, Trauma, PACU, Trauma OB/GYN, PALS, TNCC, and the rest of the alphabet that really does not mean a thing if I cannot participate with the care needed and improve patient outcomes. You are in a specialty area. There are some nurses that perform well in ER and ICU. They are talented professionals and are comfortable with who they are and wherever they practice. I hope no one has offended you that you are not a critical care nurse. Specialty areas require specialty skills which you have.

Why are emergency nurses not considered critical care nurses?
Hi, I wish more ER nurses had your enthusiasm. ER nurses want to be considered ER nurses. They do not want to be critical care nurses or they would be working in the ICU. Majority of ER nurses are afraid to float to critical care areas because of fear of what goes into critical care standards of care. ER nurses work under the supervision of a physician all day long. Unfortunately, the ICU intensivist does not exist in the critical care arena like it used too!!!!!!!!! ICU nurses now function as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th year residents!!!!!!!!! The pathophysiology and ongoing clinical assessment skills goes way beyond what happens in the ER. It is very easy for me to float to ER and get through the day. I usually tell the ER MD what needs to be done stat during the admission process. We work very well together as a team. It is nice to know that my skills are valued and appreciated when I float to ER. But I must tell you, the ER nurses are scared to death to float into the ICU. I wish it would change. I appreciate all their concerns and understand. I am a CCRN and hope you are a CEN and promote this certification process. Your knowledge and expertise should continue to grow. I do not want ICU patients remaining in the ER because you are not set up to provide critical care standards. That does not translate into you are not a critical care nurse. ERs cannot be used as primary care areas. It is a batlle we continue to deal with. Activism Activism

7000 fatal med errors last year-where are theses nurses?
Hi, You will recover and place all your fears and anxiety into political activism. We need to fight for patient/staff ratios to improve patient care and stop the madness. Our profession has set us up to fail in these circumstances. You did not decide to make an error and hurt someone that day. If nurses had the time to care, teach, and treat, the medical errors would be reduced tremendously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will heal and improve the health care delivery system. Please do not leave us...we need you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Activism

Calling All Nurses
To all my Professional Friends, This is my first time using this sight. I have been a nurse for 36 years and currently seeking my APN. My specialty is critical care cardiology/cabg/nuero. My new love is politics and fighting for nurses' rights since we are the matrix of the health care delivery system. I belong to AACN and SEIU. I have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for 15 years. Originally, NY/NJ. The oppression our profession has gone on long enough. Now there is a shortage of nurses willing to work under certain conditions they find so objectionable. Please let me know how you are all being treated? Does Magnet Status work or is it another JCAHO/MASQUERADE PARTY? I hope to learn more about what is happening across the country. Thank you, Activism
