I took my Kaplan today and yes the questions are the same every time I finished with a 78 over all. Not good. I'm AM an English and NOT a math brain.. with that being said, the math was all fractions and decimals with a smattering of conversation and ratio problems. I ended up with an 89 in math and a dang 67 in writing!! The the heck?! The writing was extremely aggravating! Monotonous would be an understatement. This section is where I did the worst on and lost most of my points. I let it get the best of me and started getting careless. I'm taking it once more to fix that for sure. Here's my advise to you guys tho. There is SO much to study "help" out there like Quizlet and places like that meant to help with the 20 science questions. I just sat here and did a search on the Kaplan Entrance Exam. Holy Cow!!! there is wayyyyy too much stuff on quizlet that's never mentioned at all on the test. Actually I didn't see one single thing just now and I pulled up ton of so called "study " material. Makes me wonder where the heck they get this atuff? Personally, I took my 3 bios almost 5 years ago and have recently spent several weeks going through my own notes quickly. I also spent quite a bit of time on the internet searching out Kaplan science questions. You should do this! There's some significant info out there but you have to look. Out of the 20, I got 15 correct. I can say there is really no rhyme or reason to them. For the reading section, I took the advise of the good people on All Nurses and read the questions BEFORE the passage, excellent advise as they point to most of the paragraphs by number to find the answers. So there is no chemistry, I don't remember anything on cells with the exception of neurons. There was no reproductive, no integumentary, muscles, skeletal questions. There was one on asthma, symptoms of gout, blood flow through the heart, know what major parts of the brain are responsible for (very basic). Do most certainly brush up on decimals and fractions. Very basic punctuation (it's, its) stuff like that. Over all this test blows the ACT and both TEAS 5&6 out if the water for being easier, no comparison!! ps!! Look up percent of change. Not many word problems in math but know how to calculate % of change. Good luck everyone :)

RN2Be, Congrats on the first step, doing the MAR review. I'm also VERY excited to get this train a rollin! Did you get your LPN? I would imagine that would be a big help.

So now I'm studying for the TEAS. I got everything in yesterday and am set to go. I will find out my test date tomorrow. Time to hit the books!!

Hey RN2B... I was told that class was very difficult and that if I din't have a brand new computer, then I'd have to pay for some new downloads. I thought it sounded like bunk. I'm glad that you let me in on that. I had originally planned on taking it online, but after I heard that news I figured I should reconsider. I'll definitely sign up on line! Also, like I told dirahmartin, I needed a chemistry for Rowan Community College, it's about an hour south of Forsyth. I have them as a back up plan.

No Dirahmartin, I needed it for a different college. But because I took the class at a college, I had to turn in the transcript to Forsyth.

I submitted my Info session paper last week and went in today for the MAR review. While I was there, I mentioned that I took a high school chemistry class at a college that I should have put down as a "college attended" and had to leave to supply them with that transcript. Sooooo.... now I am online paying for yet another transcript. Uhg! But, I will continue on and go back next week to finish and get my TEAS V test date. The only class I need to take is the computer 110. Ill have that done before the program starts, I hope. :)

I wonder when the information session for spring '17 will be up?? I hope they're not holding out so that we must take the new ATI Teas! All I have been working on as a study guide is the Teas V. I understand the new ATI Teas is harder...

Ok, so 53 (awesome years of experience) old right here! I have worked at my hospital for 6 years. I work on the IV Team now, pushing a computer around about 7-8 miles a day. Before this position I was a regular CNA on the Neuro-science unit. We have lots of heavy, flaccid, stroke patients that needed to be walked to the bathrooms or bathed while changing out beds, fed, briefs changed, turned, lugged into wheelchairs, etc. I worked pretty hard, much harder physically, than the majority of the RN's during my 12 hour shifts. But I loved it most of the time . Yes I was tired, that is for sure. But there is something about the atmosphere at a hospital. We help people that need it. I was meant to do this and it feels pretty good - plus I work with many like-minded people. For the most part, we are a team. You will have the exceptions, but that's anywhere you go. And then there's the 3 day work week, or week-enders that make pretty great money. I will hopefully be in MY nursing program spring 2017. This has always been a dream of mine and I don't care what anyone thinks...I'm gonna do it. I hope you do too!!

Hey there oldsockventriloquist! I like it, lol. I wanted thank you so much for your reply. I am so glad that you didn't erase everything you wrote! I will more than likely retake the ACT. I have done a lot of reading (from good people like you!) and revisited some of my study methods. It's pretty much learning to accurately speed read and breathhhh. I jotted down a few of your points to keep in mind as I continue to practice. Thank you :) I also wanted to let you know that as far as getting into an RN program at a community college and avoiding the standardized tests... I have yet to see anything like that. Here in NC, you take the initial college placement exam such as the Accuplacer, if needed, they will assign you any remedials. Once you get them out of the way, you can work on cores or pre-reqs. Once they are done or almost done, you are usually invited to take the nursing entrance exam, ie. Hesi, Teas V, Kaplan, ACT, or SAT. I have never, and I've looked in all states within driving distance, seen any students be accepted into a program without taking one of the above mentioned tests unless they already have a degree in something else. You even have to take the entrance exams if you go from LPN to RN. Something else the community collages do is make you attend a required Nursing Session. Where I go, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, this was very disparaging experience for most of the group. The head of nursing did nothing but tell us all that we would never make it through the program. We literally were made to sit for over an hour and listen to all the ways we should expect to fail - if the unlikely event occurred that we should be able to place. According to them, the NCLEX is looking for a 10% higher failure rate per year. All I can remember is limping out of that room so I could get into my car and cry. I am resigned to continue on with this journey until I see it through. One day, I will have those coveted letters "RN" following my name, and when I do... I'll be able to say that it was all worth it. Right? I sure hope so.

Thanks Ladyfree28. I wrote this post a long time ago and it just today, popped up on my profile. I appreciate your advise! I am now studying the teas v, but this time I have the study manual and am going through it page by page. I can't believe at my age, I still have have so much to learn about myself! Someone on here said that when ever you take a practice test, you should ALWAYS do all of the questions, not just the unfamiliar stuff. I was shocked at what I thought I knew - but got wrong! Like you said, you must learn how to take the test. I'll keep plugging away at all this crap. I've come a long way and have NO intentions of quitting now. :)

Hi Nevergiveup. I don't do well in study groups. I'm much better off in a quiet area all by myself. Sometimes I get too taken up with trying to figure out how the others in the group are learning, then try it their way - and then I get all screwed up. I record all of my lectures and take copious notes from that. I'll listen to lectures as much as I can prior to a test. Has your friend always had bad test grades? Maybe she, like me, has terrible test anxiety and needs to have that addressed. You are a good friend for trying so hard to help her! Let us know how it goes.

I am also going to apply for spring '17. I live an hour away, in Charlotte but I'll take the drive over waiting for fall of '17 if I can get in. I have all my pre-reqs done as well and the only C I have is also in English 112. I thought about taking that class over, maybe I should.

I took those classes first, well the A&P's anyway. They were hard but I took copious amounts of notes and I also downloaded a recorder app for my phone and recorded all the lectures and replayed them at home when it was quite and I think that really helped a lot. I don't know about where you want to go for your RN but some community collages will let you get by with high school chemistry and I got to take that online and it was FREE!! What a life saver! So check all that out too. :)
