I have had my CA furnishing license for 2 years but never got my DEA license since I was not prescribing controlled substances at my former position. I am starting a new job and they would like me to obtain DEA license for which I have applied. Do I need to inform the BRN and/or update my furnishing license once my DEA is issued? Thanks in advance- I'm trying to avoid contacting CA BRN.

OK thanks, that is how I have been calculating it but I got an offer which demonstrated the other way, which seemed more like a strict percentage with the guarantee of the base, rather than the base PLUS percentage (if that makes sense). I work in derm and net collections are high. Thanks again!

I need some clarification regarding compensation. Hope this example makes it easy to understand my question. hypothetical: base= 100k percent of net collections= 20% total collections received/year= 500k Which way do you calculate as I have seen both examples online: a) 500,000 - 100,000 x .20 + 100,000= total compensation b) 500,000 x .20 - 100,000 =any remaining above base is added to achieve total comp. I hope this makes sense! The order makes a big difference and I'd love to know what is standard. thanks!

I was given an acceptance offer initially and if I'm remembering correctly, our date to decide was April 15th. Therefore, I would hang in there as they are probably going through the waitlist over the next few weeks. Good luck! I decided to attend another school so hoping someone will get offered my seat soon!

I am not a current student but had an extensive phone conversation with someone that graduated from PreSpecialty midwifery last year. She emphasized that she felt well prepared and that regardless of the amount of time you are in school, your first year as a new grad will be challenging and overwhelming. She also noted that the program focuses on APRN, rather than the RN role. Therefore, you learn the basic skillset during PreSpecialty and immediately begin preparing for the NCLEX, however, they don't spend a ton of time making sure you are highly proficient as an RN in a hospital setting. This may be a positive or negative depending on personal goals. She added that she did not have any problems being hired without taking time in-between RN and NP to work as an RN...as the roles greatly differ anyway. Also, a deciding factor should be if you truly desire a DNP, which in her experience is not necessary to work as an NP, and can be obtained later while working as an NP (sometimes paid for by employers). She said Vanderbilt is super supportive, and available for their students. She really loved the midwifery program and had friends in FNP and AGPCNP that had great experiences as well. I was really on the fence because of the same concern but after speaking with her I cancelled my visiting days to other schools and Vanderbilt is now my first choice. Im also 31, so length of program is a big factor for me and I now feel confident in Vanderbilts program.

Im wondering if you are able to retain all of the information at such an accelerated pace. I know your answer is dependent on personal abilities, but in general, are other students and you able to commit information to long term memory, or are you studying just for exams, then its onto the next thing? Im afraid I won't be able to let the information sink in :/

The cost is high but Vandy grants NP licensure very quickly. So if you consider income lost while still completing a different program, Vanderbilt is less expensive ( than Hopkins)

Congrats everyone! I am accepted to AGPCNP! I am in the fortunate position of having to choose between a few amazing programs. Im visiting schools next week, but am unable to attend Vanderbilt's visiting day. Im wondering if anyone that is planning to attend might share their notes and thoughts with me following their visit and/or ask a few questions on my behalf? I would so appreciate this!

I was told decisions would be released in March. The woman I spoke with seemed confused at my asking if decisions would be released in April haha... Upon checking previous years on allnurses, it seems decisions were typically released early March and it may have only been 1 or 2 years when they were released so late. But I can't make any promises either!

Just FYI, I spoke to someone at Duke admissions that mentioned decisions would be released in March. Her reaction to my asking if we would know early April, as others had suggested, made me assume it would be early to mid March. Not sure if this eases your anxiety going forward. It certainly made a difference for me!

Do you know if its at all possible to switch specialties after completing pre-specialty year? Also, I was told that most classes are online, even for those that aren't distance learners. If this is correct, how was this experience for you? The online factor is someone of a concern for me because Im a hands on learner and enjoy making connections with faculty etc. Thank you for any input you're able to offer!

I am wondering the same, but not necessarily for midwifery... My thoughts are if you make positive connections with faculty and get good recommendations you do have better odds of admittance. But Im really not sure and it is discouraging to imagine the whole application process and anxiety all over again.

Hey! Has anyone applied to other programs and heard back? I was accepted to Hopkins, Columbia and waitlisted for Upenn. I am having a really hard time trying to decide between programs, in addition to waiting it out for Duke. If anyone is in a similar situation, I would love to hear your thoughts on Duke and why/if its your top choice, or why you are choosing to attend somewhere else before hearing back from Duke. My concern re Duke is that the MSN programs are distance learning, and although I know it seems more convenient, I learn best through interaction and hands on learning... so its hard to imagine feeling confident or truly engaged in this scenario. That being said, I have only taken single online courses in the past. Thank you for any insight!

I only applied to ABSN, so was waitlisted for ABSN. I can't really speak to your situation as I don't want to assume anything. I suggest calling/emailing for clarification.

My siss says its missing my 2015 W2 forms.... I submitted my 2016 W2 via the CSS program etc. Do we need to send 2015 directly to the school? Also, why 2015? Thanks!

I found the same statistic. It does seem low, however there could be extenuating factors we are unaware of for the 2016 cohort. The former years aren't incredible, but a bit more promising.

Yes, I applied to ABSN and had a phone interview.

I attended the interviews last Friday. About 90% of interviewees wore a dark blue or black pants/skirt suit. The other 10% wore a button down under a sweater and slacks or skirt. I chose the sweater look, but if you have a blazer I would go that route. Good luck!
