  1. Bumping this up! OP any updates on your experiences? I also came from Mayo Clinic and am looking for an optimal setting (cardiac background) and looking for anything good!
  2. Original poster--what made you want to go back after having your masters? Just curious! How do you like womens health/ambulatory/etc?
  3. My current place of employment is implementing to a new charting system--Epic. Much more commonly used nationwide! So I'm excited ? But I am nervous about the transition period from our current prehistoric charting methods. Looking to your expertise: 1) Does anyone have a brainsheet they have made specific to Epic? Or aspects of their brainsheet that have to do with Epic? I work on a CV/Transplant PCU but I'd take anything! 2) Any tips/tricks? 3) Any advice? I've heard it's tons better and user friendly but I am nervous about learning a new charting system so I'm turning to my fellow nurses!
  4. Hey team! My unit is planning to upgrade the care team communication boards in our patient rooms. What components would you want on your patient's whiteboard? How would you want it organized? For example, date, surgeon, RN: [space for name], PCA: [Name], other provider: [Name], oxygen needs, activity assist requirements, plan for the day, area for family questions/communication, etc I work on a cardiovascular surgery/heart and lung transplant PCU so the board needs to be somewhat broad to be applicable to all patients. Thanks for your consideration!
  5. That was a very poorly written question on Kaplan's part. I haven't come across a worse one yet in my review. Thank you for asking this.
  6. I accepted a position on a cardiothoracic (mainly cardiovascular) surgical/transplant unit. I am so excited but also am curious how difficult this transition will be and how steep the learning curve will be. I am scheduled to have 3-4 months of orientation to the institution and floor, with a foundations of critical care course included. We can ask for more orientation at the end of the 3-4 months if we feel it is needed. I hope I'm not biting off too much though! I'd love to hear how I can start preparing from some cardiac nurses.
  7. Greetings! I am a RN, BAN and got hired at Mayo Clinic as a PCU nurse mid-year before graduation. Those in the position of hiring nurses will know what a BAN prepared nurse is. It did not come up in my interview, but I've always knows BANs and BSNs to be considered equal. The BAN just has more focus on being well-rounded/cultured outside of nursing (which makes you stronger as a nurse) and the other puts heavier focus on the sciences (which also makes you a stronger nurse). Both are beneficial! That's been my experience.
