Moving out of state immediately after graduating NP program.
Hi everyone! I will soon be starting my direct entry MSN program in a couple weeks. The program is laid out in a way to allow me to have my RN license in one year, then the next two years are spent for the MSN-FNP portion while also working as a RN to gain experience. I moved from California to Massachusetts for this program and I am already planning to move back after I finish the program (about 3 years). I've been looking up the procedure to transfer my license and paperwork from MA to CA already and it's stressing me out! Is there any way for me to be able to transfer my FNP license to CA immediately after graduation, or will I have to spend months in MA to have all paperwork be processed? Is there extra certification that I need to have a FNP license in CA (in comparison to the requirements in MA)? One thing I do understand is that I will need to apply for a CA RN license. I assume doing this immediately after I get my RN license would be the best choice? On the BON out of state application, I noticed they require the transcript from my program with a degree listed. I have a BS in Microbiology, but my current nursing program does not provide a BSN after one year, but only provides the MSN at the end of the program. Will this be an issue when I try to transfer my license after gaining licensure? I really hope I can move back to CA immediately after graduation, and I really do not want to end up working and being stuck in MA for any additional time. If anyone could help me out by completely outlining how to transfer a NP license before graduation would be amazing. Thank you!

Simmons Direct Entry Fall 2016
Hi guys! Haven't seen a forum for this program yet so I decided to start one. I finished my application around July last year and I haven't had heard a single thing from them since! Just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything about decision dates? My student portal still says being reviewed for completion.

Just got a call this morning about being accepted! I applied for FNP. She didn't specify whether I got into the Masters portion or not, but I guess I'll see once I get a formal invitation through the mail.

Are any of you considering applying for the post-masters FNP after this program? I'm trying to decide if I should go the post-masters certificate or a RN-MSN for NP route.

Deciding between nursing programs
Yes I completely agree with what you are saying. I think the thing that's mostly holding me back from the BSN program is having to deal with the application process for the Master's again. I'm not sure if doing the BSN-MSN or getting a post-masters FNP is the better choice. If I go with the Master's, I would have a higher degree and could potentially factor into job applications, whereas with a BSN would not really give me a leg up in the field. But I appreciate your advice and I have alot to think about!

University of Rochester ABPNN May 2016
Does anyone know if preference to the RN-MSN program is given to students in this program? I really wanted to get into the AMPNN but only got into the ABPNN. My decision to go to this school or not is really weighing on my odds of being accepted into the Master's program...

Yea that would be helpful! I was actually looking at some places in the white coat ghetto area that looked really good too. Has anyone recieved your information packet in the mail yet? I'm going to assume the deposit is to be delivered via mail or an I wrong?

Deciding between nursing programs
Hello! I was recently accepted into a few accelerated nursing programs, and I can not decide which one to pick. Western University: 3 year program. RN license after 1 year. Master's degree for the next 2 years (CNL). No BSN. University of Rochester: 1 year program. RN license after 1 year. BSN only. De Paul University: 2 year program. RN license and Master's degree (Generalist). No BSN. Saint Louis University: 3 year program. Master's degree (CNL). They actually gave me an opportunity to do the Accelerated BSN instead if NP was in my future. I am currently leaning toward University of Rochester. I want to become a FNP in the future, and I feel that gaining a Master's degree in CNL or Generalist wouldn't necessarily help me with my career path. I think the best thing to do right now is to do the 1 year program at Rochester, work for a couple years, and re-apply to the RN-MSN(NP) program at Rochester. I can't justify spending hundreds of thousands more dollars for a Master degree in CNL that I wouldn't even use. Is this the right path that I should choose? Western University is also a great school, but it would take me almost 5 years of schooling, with almost 300k in debt to become an NP. My problem is that I already have a Bachelor's degree and I hate that I would be going to school for 1 year for another Bachelor's when I have the opportunity to gain a Master's. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!

Hey coco! I'm also in the same boat as you. I'm also from California but I think I am going to choose Rochester over the other Accelerated Master's programs I was accepted into. My logic is this. My end goal is to become a nurse practitioner, and I know Rochester has a great NP program. The schools in California only have an Entry Level Masters-CNL program, which would require me to go to a NP program after that. The amount of loans I would have to take for that would be ridiculous, and having a Master's degree in something I didn't even want would be useless. So getting the BSN at Rochester, work for a year or two and re-apply to the Masters to NP program is the best route for me. If you're going to choose Rochester, let me know! Need to start looking for apartments and roommates soon!

DePaul MENP Fall 2016
Hi guys. Just wanted to say I was just accepted too! Although I don't know much about this program and would appreciate if someone could just go over it for me? I understand that the Master's is the outcome but a Master's in what? Most schools provide the CNL or NP upon graduation but nothing is really specified on the website. Also, how much is the cost for this program? Thanks!

University of Rochester ABPNN May 2016
Yea that's also my issue. I asked Nancy about this and she didn't really answer my question. She said most students 99.9% of ABPNN take a year or two off after acquiring the license to gain experience and they reapply. I remember during my interview I asked about this and I think she did say alumni have a higher chance of getting into the Master's portion. Would anyone happen to know the cost of this program?

I also got a call today about acceptance! But it is only for the one year bachelors as well, which makes me a bit hesitant about accepting.

Western University of Health Science MSN Entry Level 2016
Honestly it was super chill. During lunch, you sit down with two of the faculty and one current student and you can talk and ask them questions about anything. Just have some questions prepared and just be yourself. I only asked a couple of questions, so as long as you seem interested in becoming a nurse you shouldn't have a problem. The rest of the day was talking about financial aid and touring the campus.

Western University of Health Science MSN Entry Level 2016
Congrats to those accepted! I also got an acceptance today as well. Although I'm extremely torn at this point. Western is a great school but I really want to attend school outside of California, but I won't hear back from those schools until late February. Meaning I would have to either accept Westerns offer or decline and hope I got in one of the other schools. I don't know what to do T.T

I asked Nancy about getting a possible interview for the Master's portion and she says that I am only being reviewed for the Acc-BSN . Does anyone know if attending Rochester will increase my chances at being admitted to the Master's portion of the program?
