  1. laurasc, aren't our co-workers great, especially other mom's!!
  2. Man, this site is smoking!!! Dale Earnheart, the recently deceased race car driver, left a 10 million dollar estate even though he dropped out of high school. There will be those that suceed without "degrees". However, for most people, it is a necessary journey to prove to others that they are "qualified" to do the job. Again, all of us know nurses that do NOT have advanced degrees, over others that do, we would choose to care for our loved ones, but remember, the public and other do not know the difference. We must have some minimal standard, whether it be adn or bsn. Nurses have NO power in deciding their careers. CHARLES SMITH RNBSN ? and mijourney are on target. (excuse gram and spell checks)

  4. Elenaster, the poop from the patient that had been dringking for three days brought back bad memories. One time in the ER I had to get a "nasty" smelly person undressed. When I pulled his socks off, they didn't come off, but just disintergrated into dust. The smell was terrible.
  5. OK Nursejanedough, I forgot to tell you of two other things that gross me out. The smell of dead and infarcted intestines. UGHH! When the surgeon makes the abdominal incision, everyone has to put oil of wintergreen on their masks to keep from puking. Also, I have come close to losing it when drunks come into the ER and start vomiting, it STINKS.
  6. Maybe this argument will be resolved in the next thirty years. About fifty-five years ago, doctors were having the same arguments. When someone graduated from medical school, they were considered a doctor. Some doctors started going into hospitals and did an intersnship for a year or less and they were laughed at by the general practioners. Then if you can beleive it, some decided to do a three year residency. Now, besides an intership and residency, doctors are doing fellowships. The arguments were the same back then as they are now. As our society becomes more technologically advanced and the stream of information and knowledge grows by leaps and bounds, it becomes impossible to learn even the basics in two years. The best nurses are good, not becasue of their degree, but because they are motivated and committed. However, I have no intention of seeing a physician who has not done a residency, nor one who is not board certified. Does it mean that if they are certified then they are an excellent physician? No, but it's all we have by which to judge their skills. We have to raise the entry level of nursing to gain the respect and autonomy nursing deserves.

  8. Nursejanedough, do you now have some disease that makes us afraid to treat you? It's great to read about other nurses that recognize that it is almost impossible to objectively judge someone else's pain. As far as the addicts go that come into clinics, er's, etc. I am glad some of you nurses give them something for "pain". Then I don't have to worry about them robbing me or my children or burglarizing my home so they can steal money to buy some illict drugs off the street.

To nursejanedough, Have you tried contacting attorneys to review records and giving references? I personally could never go back to "bedside" nursing. I am saving my nursing skills and energy for my family.
  11. Carmen, Do it. I graduated with my associate's degree in nursing when I was 21 years old. It took me another 15 years to complete my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing at the age of 36. I then entered law school and graduated from law school at the age of 40. I do not regret any of it. You can do whatever you want. I have never heard of anyone regretting going back to school. I have heard of many people who regretted not going back.
