  1. I would love to look at these competencies as well. [email protected]
  2. In this area we have a lot of ADN nurses. Many facilities here do not pay rate according to bsn or adn and basically you do the same in the hospital. BSN gears you towards more administrative and helps if you are looking for that type of job. Where do you live? I work in Blairsville, GA (although I live in Murphy NC
  3. I work in georgia as well. Look at what is best, sometimes you can even work as a nursing assistant part time to get your foot in the door for a job when you graduate whatever avenue you choose. Good luck
  4. Delmar learning has a great cd-rom that covers both heart andlung sounds. It costs about 25 bucks. Go the the nurses book society (I think it is nursesbooksociety.com) You can order it there. Good luck
  5. I live in Murphy also (Hanging Dog). I work in Blairsville though. Pursue the best option for your career. At least with a CNA you can work weekends and go to school. I was a CNA, then LPN, now RN. It probably would have been easier to get the RN first in the long run, but, I probably wouldn't have had some of the experiences I have had that I have lived and learned :chuckle Good luck in your career. I honestly believe nursing is one of the most rewarding although stressful jobs there could be.
  6. It depends on the state you are in as far as a scope of practice. We use both LPN and RN in the labor room and yes, quite often the LPN is the better nurse. You would better benefit though in getting your RN for pay and, many places are going to use RN's first due to liability and such. Good luck in whatever you persue.
  7. A friend of mine had a patient several years ago on reverse isolation. He was on intermitt antibiotics but no continuous fluids (thank goodness i guess). This was before all needleless systems. She hung his PM dose of antibiotics mixed in 100cc of saline. He was confused at times, she went back 1 hour later to flush the heplock and he had the biggest grin on his face. Somehow he had disconnected the infusion and managed to get the needle stuck in his member. He was smiling from ear to ear with the biggest erection you could imagine. The poor soul did expire a few days later, but, there was no complication from the infiltrated member.
  8. I myself have had a male patient start calling me at home and work... My phone number was in my grandfather's name but the patient called every number in the book with my last name until he got me. I never persued it legally, but it was a pain until he finally quit. Thank goodness for caller ID.
