what kind of jobs does a RN do
hi, i am truly considering becoming either lpn or rn, (money issues) but as from my point of view i understand how it is misconcepted what nurses really do. i want to work in l&d and besides of when i was in there giving birth 2x i didnt know what nurses do and still don't besides just from my experience of actually being the patient i realize being in the delivery room can be sooo messy. i felt so sorry for the nurse who had to follow me to the bathroom for the first time, i didn't even want to clean me up. even through all of that i still want to work in l&d i want to be a part of bringing a life into this world. from reading these posts, even the horror stories, it still is what i want to do. so thanks for teaching and preparing me for whats to come. i think anyone who can work in those kinds of situation deserves much respect! no matter what degree you have.

I really need to talk about this! (long)
that is very discouraging. she gives docs a bad name. i had a midwife and she was the most wonderful person, she never hesitated to see me or listen to me complain. i think if she thought this pt. was a pain in the *#@ she should have referred to someone else who could deal with her. i read somewhere in one of the many posts i've read that nurses are the patients advocate so you did the job you were supposed to do. so pat on the back to you. who cares if the doc herself is a pain in the @#$. hope you have a better week next week!!!

want to be a lpn in l&d...
hi! i am 23 and a mother of 2. (5yr old. & 6 wk. old). i want to work in l&d desperately. i am considering becoming a lpn, i know my hospital hires lpn's in l&d b/c i called human resources and asked of course she said the hire rn's before lpn's. and also one of the nurses at my daughters delivery was a lpn and she was so much sweeter and caring than the other nurse whom was a rn. my husband is supportive of the idea he's just worried that i can't get a job in l&d. we aren't financially stable right now for me to become an rn. this is something i really want to do. can someone tell me the differences of what a lpn can and cant do in l&d. and p.s. what is an ob tech? thanks to anyone who has some advice. :)
