  1. I got a call to interview on Friday but haven't received a confirmation email yet. Has anyone received an email confirmation as of yet?
  2. I got a call from Jose too! This is so surreal. I have no idea what I'm going to do. A few weeks ago, I was waitlisted everywhere. I have since been offered admission at Columbia, UCLA, and Duke. If I'm not mistaking, the bottom line will be about the same at the end (in terms of cost), but Duke and Columbia have better defined NP pathways. However, UCLA has the friendliest sticker price but is two years long and I can expect to borrow about $50K per year (my gf is finishing up the MECN and has shared this info with me). How is everyone else going about making their decision?
  3. Just got in!! In case anyone else on the waitlist is wondering, I was number 9. Good luck!!
  4. That's great, man!! I'm a few spots after you so hopefully I'll be posting some news soon too!!
  5. No news here. Still waiting...
  6. This is one of the most active threads I've come across this admissions cycle--its awesome! I also received a waitlist offer (I'm number 9) and am hoping for some good news later. For those of you that were accepted (congrats!), do your admission emails include info regarding the deposit? If so, do you mind sharing how much it is and when its due? I wanna start saving just in case. Thanks!
  7. I've wondered this too. I've been told that NPs would be "grandfathered" in and not be required to get a DNP to practice. A mentor of mine is a PT but she got her degree back before the doctorate became the standard. Coincidentally, she got it as a bachelors at UPenn back in the mid-70s. She has mentioned however that some of the younger PTs that she's worked with (that did get the doctorate) have commented on how "easy" it was for her. This can create some tension among colleagues, despite having years of experience. I'm assuming that in the future, when advanced practice MSNs are replaced by the DNP across the board, there will be NPs that will experience the same thing.
  8. I've also debated the Penn/Columbia programs and which I would ultimately choose if offered admission to both. I'm still waiting on my Penn decision and have accepted a spot on Columbia's MDE waitlist, so if I'm lucky I'll have the chance to choose. Since my ultimate goal is to become an NP, I'd probably choose Penn's program so that I could A) have the chance to submatriculate into the MSN program, and B) do the MSN part-time so that I could also gain some experience. I'm not sure if Columbia's DNP can be done part-time, however you do get paid during residency which is practically the same thing. Honestly, either would be a great choice. Thoughts?
  9. @ KO_1219 I guess the short answer would be that I'm ready to move on from LA. Don't get me wrong, my undergraduate experience was awesome--definitely no regrets--but I would welcome a change of scenery. I've applied to Penn, Columbia, JHU, OHSU, Duke, Georgetown, Univ. of SF, UC Davis, and UCLA. I'll wait and see what happens in terms of where I get in (or don't get in) and go from there, but I can say that I prefer more of a casual urban vibe than the experience I've had here in LA. There's a chance that I'll stay out, but I can honestly say that I don't see myself here long-term.
  10. Whoa, only 24? Yeah that sounds like its gonna be pretty competitive. I'm guessing they'll get a lot of applications given that UC Davis also has the only NP/PA program in the country. It would be a good decision for anyone wanting to get acquainted with faculty/admissions for that next step. I've also applied to UCLA's MECN program but think I would choose UCD if I had the choice. I'm finishing up my undergrad at UCLA right now but am ready to leave LA. I grew up in SF and miss being able to walk around.
  11. @leojerz UCLA allows you to take Epidemiology the summer before the program begins (at UCLA). When my girlfriend was admitted to the MECN program, they let her take Epidemiology and Physiology during the summer before the Fall start of the program. Her admission was contingent on her passing those classes, so you could still be admitted even if you have prereqs left to take.
  12. Hey everyone! I am also applying for Fall 2016. I'm an undergrad here so it would be super convenient if I get accepted. My girlfriend is in her final year of the MECN program and loves it! Where else is everyone applying to?
  13. Hey everyone! I am also applying to Duke's Fall 2016 cohort. Other schools I'm applying to are: UCLA's MECN program (I'm an undergrad here), Univ of San Francisco, UC Davis's MEPN program (their first direct entry class begins in 2016), Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Yale, Penn, Georgetown, Oregon Health & Science Univ, and possibly NYU. I'm currently finishing up my undergrad while taking prereqs. Does anyone know how to calculate the undergraduate GPA when combining quarter and semester classes?
