  1. I did it and it wasn't so bad. Chemistry is more analytical thinking and A and P is more memorization. It's definitely doable and possible to make As if you put forth the effort. I am not great at chem either but I pulled it off.
  2. Hi all, I am a current KSU nursing student and just wanted to give advice I wish someone would have given me. If you are able, I highly recommend taking pathophysiology before starting the nursing program (though not sure if it is offered during the summer if you start this fall)! Most people didn't know you could do that. If you are attending a different school, check with Fran to make sure it will transfer first. It will lighten your load considerably. Also, if you are accelerated, they should give you a choice if you want to take a research class online or in class. The online class is convenient but it is more work than the on campus one. Just something to think about. Also, for the person asking about KSU or GSU, I can only speak from my experience. GSU is very slow to respond to emails (all departments that I have had to contact) and I have heard their financial aid process is a pain, but I have not had to deal with that aspect. Also, I know the GSU campus has crime from time to time, BUT, the city aspect of the campus is very charming. KSU's financial aid process, so far, has been a breeze. I also love the KSU campus SO much. It's so convenient and something is always happening. Also, all the nursing school staff I have come in contact with have been so amazingly friendly and caring. Congrats to everyone that got in! If it didn't happen for you this time around, do not be discouraged! Many of my classmates got in on their second or third try.
  3. You will have to do clinicals on a med/surg floor or a nursing home, so you WILL be working with adult populations no matter what, even if your first job is in NICU. Although, NICU and peds are very popular specialties. Most of my classmates express interest in working with children and babies, so it is extra competitive. You may be disappointed if you can't get a job in your preferred specialty right out of school. Since you don't seem interested in bedside/caring for adults at all, I really don't think nursing is a great choice. Most people at least wait until their first semester clinicals to decide that. The only job I can think of where you only work with babies is a day care center. If you are ambitious, you could look into starting your own day care.
  4. Yeah- judging by the number of people in the Facebook group and I think I saw on the uniform order form it said something like 120 Fall/90 Spring- looks like only 90 this go around. I still have to get my last Hep B shot and titer, then the two step TB test, and lastly the physical and I'm done. Glad we have until the end of January!
  5. What did everyone think of the orientation? You don't realize how many people are in the program until they are all in one room! Am I right in thinking that they only accepted 90 for this time around instead of 120?
  6. Never mind- it came to a different email address. Thanks!
  7. I guess I didn't get that email. Was it from Ms. Valdez?
  8. Anyone gotten their orientation packet in the mail yet?
  9. I turned in my rejection letter last week. Don't know how long it will take them to go through it and call people up from the waiting list but you can at least know you are going up a spot!
  10. I thought we had to buy both, but if we're not I probably will get them anyway. There's a buy/sell group for KSU nursing students on facebook. I've seen lots of scrubs and other supplies on there for pretty cheap. I guess we'll learn all this at orientation in a month!
  11. I chose online as well. I usually do well in online classes so I hope this is no different. Also, I had titers done yesterday at Any Lab Test Now in the Windy Hill area and got my results via email today. Highly recommend using them if anyone hasn't gotten theirs done yet.
  12. For accelerated students, did you guys choose the online section or in class section for the research class?
  13. I am also a transfer student. Yes, there is a special call number for the patho class we will have to put in I believe. See you guys on the 4th!
  14. @Brittany, not sure either. Hopefully we will find out soon when we get the next email.
  15. Thanks! I have already scheduled my CPR class for this Wednesday. Looks like we have to get a lot of titers done, too.
  16. Has anyone got the email from Ms. Valdez about the orientation and required documents yet? I just got called from the standby list so I am scrambling to get everything together.
  17. I have heard the HESI is easier than TEAS. Maybe don't count that out? Also I'm sure you know out of state tuition is killer. I would stay in state if at all possible, although that may not be an issue for you. I would just research ABSN schools near you and check out their requirements. Sometimes more rural schools get less applicants making them easier to get into. Also may consider retaking TEAS to make yourself more competitive. Most schools that I know of have average TEAS scores of accepted students in the mid 80s. Hope this helps!
  18. Hey guys, I just got a call from Kennesaw State that I got pulled from the wait list for their accelerated program, so I will be accepting that. Hopefully someone from here will get my spot! Good luck to you all and happy nursing :)
  19. I got into traditional!!!! Congrats everyone! Stats: program GPA: not exactly sure but I think somewhere between 3.4-3.5 science GPA: 3.95 TEAS: 84.7
  20. Congratulations!! I still have not heard anything. Very anxious! So happy for you guys.
  21. I have been looking into becoming a tech while in school for experience and as a resume booster, but CNA programs are pricey. May just have to wait until after the first year like you said. Here is the email I received when I asked about email notification of acceptance: Hello, Thank you for your interest in Georgia State University Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions program. All applicants will receive notification of acceptance or rejection. Decision letters are generally sent out 4-6 weeks after the application deadline or after receiving your application. If you have not received a letter by November 15th, then please contact the Nursing Department. Sincerely, Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions Georgia State University
  22. Thank you Hildog! I have taken all of the prerequisites except for cultural diversity I believe so I will be in the same boat as your friend if I am accepted. I am also constantly checking the thread to see if anyone has heard anything! Someone from the SNHP said if we haven't heard back by the 15th to call, but I am hoping for an earlier decision! They also said it may be dependent on when you turned in your application. I turned mine in on around the 15th of September but my second reference wasn't submitted until the day before the deadline so who knows.
  23. Does anyone know what the typical schedule for first semester is like for traditional BSN? How many lecture and clinical days a week, when clinicals start, etc.
  24. OMG! Congrats! I do not have any email. Tell us everything it says!
