  1. FNPatlast: Some physicians are bullies which is exactly what you're dealing with. It is an unrealistic expectation to throw a new NP in the setting without proper orientation because EVERY PLACE IS DIFFERENT !!! There is no excuse for their idiotic behavior. Jesus loves you and He is watching over you, believe that !!! Here are a few resources for jobs for us: https://www.ziprecruiter.com/johttp://www.pajobsite.com/Index2.cfm?Page=JobsSearchbs/healthcare-associates-9f078883 These places specialize in jobs for NPs and PAs so utilize these to secure a better job. Your current employer is worthless and is a danger to their patients, not you. If you feel insecure in your professional abilities, study your resource materials used to pass your NP cert exam. If nothing else this will boost your self esteem. I prayed for you as I read your message. Hang in there ! God will come to your rescue. Please keep me posted and we'll give God all of the glory honor and praise when He fixes the situation. May He bless and keep you !
  2. There are numerous recruiting sites for NPs and PAs so why aren't some of us getting ideal jobs from these places?? Barton Associates is one and also get on facebook and network for ideal NP jobs......they're out there......
  3. My source is NEHC (northeast health care).
  4. Thankyou NeldaFNP, MSN for the information that you posted. I am currently studying from Barkley using both the manual and his CDs, as well as reading through Leik's certification book and doing the practice questions at the end of that one when I am done with Barkley's information..........I will be burning the midnight oil over the next few weeks until I get this material good and stuck in my head !!! Sigh.........
  5. Well one of the things to look for is if the company mentions that the assessments are in one particular area and if they pay for gas mileage. I would think that, that would be a good company to work for. I just wonder how long is the credentialing process?? It is the same with some home health companies, nurses have good experiences and bad ones, especially if the company is unorganized and makes the job more tedious than it should be. Keep searching until you find the company that is the right fit for you.
  6. I would love to do this job but I just think that I need to excel in the clinic environment first. But if I were offered such a job I'd jump on the bandwagon pretty daggone quick.....We have been around and sacrifced for 100 years or more. Isn't it time we get paid for our services? Some places accept new graduates and train them to do assessments. I am just waiting to pass my test before submitting for a job in this area. From what I understand the need will grow !!!!
  7. Nelda FNP you have been so helpful. Thankyou sooooo much !!
  8. Nelda FNP thankyou sooooo much for this post as I have been worried about a study strategy so thanks again !!! I have not studied since my May 2nd 2015 graduation because I am recuperating from total knee surgery and am in some pain which takes a lot of my focus......I will start studying though here next week even though the doctor has to work on my knee again !!!!
  9. Hey NPs I have a question...when studying Barkley's review CD's for AANP-AGNP certificaton, should I take notes?
  10. Congratulations to you NPs for passing national board certification !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be taking mine in a month or so...I am currently recuperating from total knee surgery and need to focus on healing from that.......I have Leik's book, Fitzgerald's book, Barkley's CDs, and 3,000 question test bank I purchased from ExamEdge........
  11. That's not realistic in this profession. Every RN does not always have the time to go around socializing. The question was catty at best and unnecessary. RNs have this unprofessional cutthroat attitude and it is just ridiculous. Just because you found spare time is not the case for many of the rest of us......
  12. PsychGuy, I really appreciate your kind reply (you know it's true because it rhymes!). I truly believe that soon, we will be 100% compensated like physicians as far as pay or close to it. We just have to continue to perform well. Washington is noticing the APRN more and more and what we can and do bring to the healthcare arena and healing profession.
  13. I have been an inpatient RN for many years off and on; but I have never been in the advanced role's circle of influence or ever knew or watched what they did because I was too busy caring for my patients. Rounding can mean rounding via report over patients admitted ect.,. or actual physical rounding/patient visits at the bedside. Admitting turns out to be pretty much just as it sounds. I know this may be hard to believe but I have never functioned in this role before hence the question.....And each role could mean different responsibilities in different environments....This is the nursing profession we're talking about---a profession that lacks uniformity across the nation; again, hence the valid question. Some support on your part would have been nice......
  14. As for California nurses having it going on, they certainly do not have it going on as far as NP practice which is in the serious dark ages and is and remains very restrictive. I find this rather strange because of the nursing unions and wonder all of the time how could the NP profession remain so stagnant as far as full practice authority.......California is not a full practice authority state for NPs and they are leaving as a result. I have wanted to leave Kansas because the pay here leaves much to be desired, however, it is one of the states where NPs are having more autonomy and the laws seem to be increasing towards complete independence here probably in the next few years. Here is where I will remain unless I marry and have to relocate.........
  15. Psych Guy: What did you mean by your very last statement: "I want to work where the numbers talk." ? Just curious....
  16. AnnaN5, I have been asked to apply for a hospitalist job but would you please distinguish between rounding and admissions as I am a new AGNP graduate......
  17. Well I am a new graduate and am waiting to sit for the certification. While driving home tonight from dinner with my daughter, I was really thinking hard about this working issue---the easier job or the harder job. I heard this little voice in my head say,"I didn't go to school all of this time to go around and just do assessments (although this would also sharpen my skills!), but to assess, diagnose and treat". I would have to do both to have some extra cash (I need a new car like yesterday!!!) and to improve and fine tune my new skills. Believe you me, I have been thinking long and hard about just doing the full-time assessment job and unless for some crazy reason I could not get/keep my position as a provider in the clinic, then I would do the assessment job fulltime. I just really want to excel at this really bad.......excellent post and I look forward to others' replies !!!
  18. Well these people pay for drive time/mileage reimbursement. Also, the ACA with all of it's ups and downs have opened up the way for the NP to change the way healthcare services are delivered. Obviously many of us have fought long and hard for this day to arrive and hopefully, with God's guiding and powerful hand, we will realize autonomy here real soon. The country is finally taking notice of what we bring to the healing arena. Our care is of utmost quality and others are giving us the acknowledgement we've worked so hard for !!! Also, every company is different relative to NP assessments. Some do things this way and others that way.....I look forward to your reply.
  19. I just stated above that we'd have to take out all of our own taxes......the recruiter was very upfront and I have also spoken with other NPs who enjoy the high pay....after all we have worked very hard and deserve it......
  20. I am a recent NP grad myself.....am currently waiting to test and will most likely do so in late June or early July....wished that I could test a lot sooner but I have to have surgery and I desperately need the study time. Ok so anyhoo, I spoke with a recruiter a few weeks ago and lots of things have changed for the NP in this country. He informed me that there is a huge need and plenty of moulah to be made. I live in the Midwest so......many retired people live in this area. He said that as an NP, even grads, are needed and should apply, we don't need DEAs for this position because we are conducting physical assessments for insured medicare patients. He says that there is no salary cap. Additionally, I spoke with my instructor last semester who said that she was making a lucrative income doing this as well. The recruiter informed me that we are independant contractors and as such would have to file a 1099 form and take out all of our own taxes. He says with his company, NPs are making $137- 250,000 annually. Money is money and doors are finally opening up for the NP profession.....It's about daggone time !!!
