  1. I attend Chamberlain College of Nursing in Columbus. It's pretty pricey but offers scholarships. They have a great reputation with Nationwide Children's Hospital when the student RNs come. The good thing about Chamberlain is that there isn't a waiting list because you can start three different times a year (whichever works for you). Mount Carmel is another good school that holds high regard in Columbus hospitals. Idk if they have an ADN program though (if you were looking for that). Good luck with whatever you choose :)
  2. I work for Nationwide Children's and they don't test for it. They only did a urinalysis for drugs. I think insurance is cheaper if you don't smoke. And then there are always other opportunities to keep your ins payments down. But Nationwide Children's is a smoke free zone. You have to walk all the way to the street to smoke. Not sure where employees go if they smoke. Never had to find out. Haha
  3. Yes. The nursing field was kind of full a couple years ago. But it definitely has come back around. People from states away are being told to move to Columbus to get a nursing job. The outlook is great! Good luck!
  4. I live in Columbus. The job market is great here. There is the Ohio State hospital system. It's a wonderful company to work for. A lot of good benefits. I work for Nationwide Children's. Ohiohealth is good. There is also Mount Carmel. The best two I seem to hear is Nationwide Children's and Ohio State. They come with a lot of perks within the community (reduced rent and discounts). Good luck!
  5. I am glad to hear you love the NICU. I have heard good things about it. I am very excited and hopefully get accepted and start there soon. I am going to try to find a PCA job in the NICU somewhere so it can help me write my personal statement. I know a little about the process. But not much about the program itself. I think OSU has a high reputation and would be a good choice no matter the certification you're looking for. I am going to hopefully get into the Graduate Entry program which is for non nursing bachelors holders. I would be going to classes full time for 1.5 years then work in the NICU as an RN for 2 years (if I pass the NCLEX), then going back to finish the last 1.5 years of the program to end up with my MSN and then take the testing for my NNP. That program is different from the others due to the fact I need 2 years of RN NICU experience before being allowed to finish my MSN and NNP certs. I can't wait to start this new chapter in my life.
  6. I want to be a NICU RN and eventually becoming an NNP. ☺️
  7. My fiancé works with feet/orthotics and he says that Spira Classic leather shoes are great. He sells them to a lot of nurses. I just got them to start my classes and clinical with.
  8. Congrats! :) I working on starting an Graduate Entry program at OSU to take my BS in chemistry into a NNP in the next 6 years. I would be a NICU RN for two years as part of the program (if I choose the NICU path). Do you still like the NICU since you got hired earlier this year? I just want to know all that I can about the unit before I declare it on my application. Thank you and congrats again! To all of you who got new jobs!
  9. Hello All, I am starting all my prerequisites for the OSU GE Master Nursing program and I am nervous. I don't know anyone who has done it and I don't know what to expect for the application process or classes. I have a BS in Chemistry with a combined GPA of 3.56. I am currently enrolled this summer at CSCC to take 3 of the 5 classes I need to be competitive. I am also taking my STNA classes at the end of April. I am trying to do everything I can to make myself competitive for the application process starting this July to Oct. Once I get my STNA classes out of the way, I was going to apply for a job as a PCA in the NICU. (since I want to go into the Neonatal NP program. I just was looking for anyone who might have advance or any information at all that can help me. Any help or people like me (about to apply to the program) is appreciated. Thank you.
