Wilkes University BSN-MSN PMHNP / Spring 2021
Hello. I just started first semester today. Your best best for updated responses would be to also join the Wilkes PMHNP facebook group. You'll actually get some helpful responses in a timely manner.

Starting BSN-to-PMHNP at Wilkes University
So I'm in a pickle and trying to figure out how to proceed. I've got $2500 saved up for PMHNP program. I work 5-6 12s a week, for school. I could attempt Fall semester this August 29th, with maybe around $6,000-$10,000 saved as an emergency fund for school. It could be a real struggle. OR, wait until next Spring semester, and work my *** of now to put like $20K-$30K into my bank account specifically for school. I figured that way I'll have a lot less worry if some sh*t goes down, and would still have $$$ for school. I am burnt out on floor nursing, working at times 8-10 12s in a row, and haven't had 2 days off in a row in over two months. I just want to get through school and get off the floor, because of all the abuse we go through. It'd probably be wiser to prepare now through Fall and Winter, and then start next Spring... I figure if I have at least a buffer of $10K specifically for school that'd give me some breathing room in case ish hits the fan.

Staff Nursing is Exhausting
Good evening all. This is a vent and a plan to exit the floor. If you're a nurse and you understand what it's like, awesome. LPN 2 years, RN going on 3. BSN obtained 6 months ago. Planning to go to PMHNP school this Fall. OK so here's the rant: I am so sick and tired of being treated like crap on the floor. I work at two hospitals doing LTACH/stepdown nursing. Management never supports us or takes our side, even when the pt/their family is crazy. Two other coworkers are planning to leave because management basically doesn't GAF about us, and everything is always our fault. I'm so tempted to get into travel nursing of some sort, because then at least the pay would be better, and weekly. They've been cancelling us FT staff 1-2 shifts a week because they overhired on agency nurses and management makes sure they get their shifts first. As a FT staff nurse I've been cancelled like 5 times in 3 weeks. My goal is to get off the floor ASAP. Hopefully the PMHNP program will be done in 2-3 years, and that will be the end of that. I figure working as a PMHNP will be less physically draining and more intellectually draining (or stimulating) and I'm OK with that. Just trying to bite my tongue so I don't get fired.

PMHNP-BC, a UWorld Equivalent?
That's part of my habit, honestly, to start studying for the final exam super early. I did that with both NCLEXs and cleared them both in 30m at 85 and 75. I did over 9,000 NCLEX questions with rationales. Learned during nursing school that for whatever reason I learn best by reading rationales and understanding exactly why I got something wrong, and then drawing connections among multiple questions. For the life of me I couldn't retain knowledge reading all those med-surg pages, but with those questions the knowledge stuck to my grapefruit easier.

Wilkes University BSN-MSN PMHNP / Spring 2021
I'm in the same boat right now. Looking to start the PMHNP program this Fall at Wilkes University, primarily because they help with finding preceptors. I don't want to be in a nightmare situation where I'm halfway through but can't find any preceptors.

Any Psych Nurse Practitioner's out there?
I know this thread is very old, but I'm an RN looking to start the PMHNP program this Fall, and am in search of answers. Would it be optimal to work inpatient PMHNP, then outpatient, then outpatient private practice? I have watch several videos from PMHNPs stating this is the most rewarding route.

PMHNP-BC, a UWorld Equivalent?
Thank you for offering your knowledge and advice. Part of me, when eager and anxious, just wants to hunker down and just start studying as much as I can in 30-minute increments. Just spent 6 hours total yesterday studying the purple book, and looking up different screening systems used for diagnosing psychiatric issues. I just want to find (home in on) the best study resources for PMHNP, so I can feel confident in my knowledge base. I'll be starting this Fall, and planning to buy the course books this Spring to try to gain an advantage. There's this ANCC electronic exam bundle online but they want like $275 for it, and you don't get to keep them, so I'm considering buying them and taking screenshots of everything and all the rationales/answers, and convert to paper exam. I guess I'm eager, and have this nervous (GOOD) energy to just want to dig into it. I miss being in school, and am tired of being kicked around on the the floor. It sounds dumb but I'm so hungry to learn asap.

PMHNP-BC, a UWorld Equivalent?
Anyone here know if there's a PMHNP-BC/ANCC module on a website like UWorld? I used UWorld for both past NCLEXs and it was worth every penny. Right now trying to figure out everything to study for the PMHNP this Fall. Got the purple ANCC study guide and a new DSM-V. I want to go over a lot of PMHNP/ANCC questions online like on UWorld. Haven't found any so far on Google. EDIT: It seems like almost every PMHNP group I've joined is either a barren wasteland or is teeming with spammers trying to get you to buy their NCLEX review course when you're already past that. It's starting to feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack a group that's active with PMHNP students. Normally I wouldn't ask this here but I'm feeling slightly desperate to find peers and answers.

PMHNP, Guaranteed Preceptors?
Good evening all. So far I've got Wilkes University on my list. They have PMHNP program and they advertise helping to find preceptors. Have called them twice and left voicemails last week and still haven't gotten any response. Have heard about Gonzaga but not finding a PMHNP program from them. My coworker just mentioned Carson/Newman university in Jefferson city, and looking into it now. They don't need to "guarantee" preceptors, but at least work with me while I'm trying to secure them. As long as it's not 100% all on my shoulders.

PMHNP, Guaranteed Preceptors?
Good morning all. I've recently completed my BSN, and am now looking to start a psychiatric nurse practitioner program next year. The main problem I'm dealing with is trying to find a school (preferably online but B&M is fine) that can and will guarantee you your preceptors. It was a nightmare just trying to find one preceptor for my Capstone during 2020. Multiple suggestions have been offered to me, but then when I call them they say they don't guarantee preceptors. Any recommendations for a PMHNP program/school that doesn't leave you hanging on this? Thank you.

Making Nursing Videos
I've emailed my state BON and will be calling them tomorrow. All I want to know is if I'm allowed to created study guide videos for fellow nursing students. To be frank I don't care about opinions, nor the opinion that even though I've got 2 years of nursing experience and am in good standing at school I'm apparently a "know-nothing." I reject that entirely. Once the BON provides me an official answer, and if it's legal to do my part making helpful videos, I will start making them in the near future.

Making Nursing Videos
Thank you. I will. Not quite ready yet, but I would like to in the future.
-
Making Nursing Videos
The videos are more directed at nursing students who want to know what to do as nurses for 'X' disease process. Comprehensive videos that help nursing students.

Making Nursing Videos
I find that very interesting, because on a large FB group I got screamed at for daring to state my interest in making informational nursing videos on YouTube. Basically I'd make videos on things like type 2 diabetes mellitus and everything nursing management on it. They said because I was an LPN with 2 years of experience (and almost done with ADN) I had zero right to make informational videos. This gives me hope because I had over 40 people throttle me just for voicing an interest in it.

Making Nursing Videos
Are nursing students and/or nurses with 2 years of experience or less allowed to make nursing-related information videos on YouTube? I've been told that only MSN and DNPs can make informative nursing YouTube videos. Apparently there are a lot of nursing YouTube channels, but not all of them are MSNs or DNPs. It's annoying, and I'm planning to call the BON and YouTube tomorrow to actually pinpoint what is and isn't allowed. Any information you guys could share on this would be helpful.
