  1. I am a fairly new grad, graduated May of 2015. I've been working Med-Surg since last August and I love it. I just had an evaluation at work and they would like me to begin training in LDRP! The hospital I work at is very small and critical access. Eventually when I become fully trained I will be on call by myself. I'm a little worried about that and told them not to rush me through training. I will let them know when I feel ready. In the meantime I will still be doing Med-Surg, but being pulled in with the OB nurses when a laboring mother or other OB pts come in. I am so excited but scared. This is what I have wanted to do ever since I first started thinking about nursing school while pregnant and on strict bedrest in 2006. I also plan on taking a CLC course in October. Does anyone have any good advice for a newbie like me?
  2. I started my nursing school career thinking I would do nothing but L&D after graduation. I work in a small critical access hospital and after graduation I immediately started in Med-Surg. I have to say I love it! I enjoy taking care of so many different people with all kinds of diseases and surgeries. I have learned a lot. Because we are a small rural facility I will eventually be cross trained to do L&D and some ER also. So I will end up getting to do OB. However, I do not want to do OB until I have a solid year of Med-Surg under my belt.

  4. I've worked with Banner Health for 12 years, I haven't used their tuition reimbursement yet, but I believe there are certain times of the year to sign up for it. You pay for your classes, then after passing them with I believe and "C" or higher they reimburse you after you give them proof of passing and receipts of cost of the class. After receiving reimbursement you have to stay with Banner for another 2 years I think. At any rate, if I were you I would talk to your HR representative.
  5. At my school we did. We practiced on the mannequins, then got plenty of practice on pts in same day surgery, in med/surg, I even got to put an IV in a OB patient going in for a c-section while I was in my L&D rotation.
  6. -Nebraska -New grad RN (since July) Med/Surg in a critical access hospital $21.62 an hour with $1.50 shift differential, non-union facility. I have worked at this hospital for 12 years in different departments and worked my way up. -Cost of living is about $350-$600 for typical rent in the area, but I bought my house and 5 years ago and its paid for. COL is fairly low, but that's with RN wages, don't know how I did it as a single mom of 2 before nursing school.
