1. Hello everyone! I am currently applying for graduate school in nursing. I completed my application process for the University of Toronto, but I am also applying for York University's MScN program. Their Statement of Interest is such a lengthy process and I am contemplating with even continuing the application process. I have my references currently completing their letter of recommendations so I don't want to not finish with the application process. Is there currently anyone in the York U MScN program currently? If so how did you find writing your personal statement? Regards, CatnessK
2. Hello, I just graduated from nursing school at Ryerson and I am currently working in community health/home care. I am really enjoying my time so far as I was hired through HFO and I am having 3 months of orientation with my final month of orientation working alongside the community mental health nurse. Community mental health is my passion and I was fortunate enough to have had my consolidation placement in community mental health. I am very excited to start working autonomously and seeing where life takes me as a new graduate nurse. Feel free to PM me with questions! Best of luck!!
3. Hey sorry late reply. She was hired in 7BCD. I am not even bothered by this I was hired as an extern with Trillium Health and I am completely enjoying my time here.
4. Hey have you been accepted into this program? How do you like it? We're you able to work full time while doing a masters full time?
5. Does Sick Kids hire Black nurses? I applied to a clinical externship position, I am a nursing student, and there was this White nursing student that applied to the same position. We compared resumes and I have to say I had a lot of work and volunteer experience in comparison to hers. She ended up getting a call to come in for an interview and got the job. I didn't even get a call for an interview at all. I feel like the person's name on a resume is a make it or break it for getting hired. My name obviously being hard to pronounce unless I say it. What are your thoughts? I am not trying to start any race war issues, but I can't possibly be the only person that feels this way sometimes.
6. He asked us if it was okay but we didnt answer and it was in the elevator. The doctor continued to talk to the patient about his care with other staff members and visitors entering the elevator. Sorry I left out that part. Would this constitute for a breach?
7. Hello everyone! I am not sure if I posted this in the right place. I just wanted to talk about a situation that happened when I had clinical. There was a doctor that entered the elevator and saw one of his patients. He went on to ask if he was okay discussing his care in the ELEVATOR and that the nursing students shouldn't mind. I just wanted to know if this was in anyway a violation in HIPAA or confidentiality (because he did great the patient by his name). Also would privacy be an issue as well? Thank in advance for the replies!
8. Hey have you met any transfer students that came from another nursing program?
9. Hey question what are the classes each semester?
10. Thank you for the reply. I wanted to know how are you graded for the prep courses. Is it just multiple choice exams, is there group presentations, attendance marks, etc.
11. I also wanted to know if there is an overview of the courses broken down for each semester. Also what is the average you must maintain for each nursing course. i know that you need a 74% in each of the prep courses, but what about the nursing courses. Also is there anyone that can tell me the level of difficulty for each of the prep courses. Thanks!
12. I applied today, super late and my GPA is around a 2.5 but my high school average is a 90%. I am transferring from another nursing school and hopefully I am accepted into this 2nd entry program. I see there aren't a lot of active members in this forum for Humber hopefully that changes up soon!

14. I feel like the environment at my school really caused for my mishap. Everyone had there own group and I honestly came to school just to go home and never wanting to stay on campus. I just never felt that university life this year and it has become very depressing for me. Commuting is causing me to become super fatigued and my family members have been calling me selfish and distant because of this year. I am the eldest of 4 younger siblings who are so close in age and I am expected to pick them up from school, drop them off to work and buy them whatever they want. it is really hard to maintain my car and gas, plus having to pay for subway and food, etc. I am unemployed as well and I really want to be able to work and go to school. With that being said I applied to Humber's second entry program this morning and I'm having no regrets so far, but I probably won't be accepted anyways because my GPA was super low. If I do get accepted this will allow me to be closer to home and maybe work during the school years. Honestly I wish I did more research on nursing schools and how their policies work because one courses really dictated my life and I can't repeat it in the summer or anything. My parents keep telling me what's done is done you can't bring back the past but you can work harder to get to your future goals. Mine is becoming a registered nurse one way or another and to complete this goal I need to make tough decisions and one of them being is switching schools. I haven't told my parents about applying yet but I do plan to do so if I do get accepted! :) Thank you all for the replies and kind words and for those of you out there in my position I would say wipe the tear, stand tall and embark on your mission of becoming a REGISTERED NURSE!
15. I ended up failing nursing theory which is so shocking to me but I am now looking at transferring schools because I am nervous to make the same mistake at my previous school
16. Hello everyone, If you read my last post about failing my second year of nursing school I just wanted to get advice on transferring to UNB-Humber Second Entry program. My GPA is going to be super low after this semester but I wanted to give it a shot and apply anyways. I just wanted to know if it is worth it and if just going back and completing second year is the best option? Or should I go into a new school that is so much closer to where I live? Also for those enrolled in the Humber nursing program have you met any nursing student transfers? Also how is the prep semester? Regards, CatnessK
17. Hello everyone, So I just received back my first final exam grade mark and I got a 50%. I am going hysterical because if you read my first post about the marks I was receiving, I really worked my butt off for this exam. I got a 38/75 and I can even begin to believe it because I was so confident. Now at my school you fail one course you repeat the entire year again including the other courses even if you passed. I really can fathom that and I also don't know how to tell my parents. I am really devastated and have no one that I can truly talk to that can understand my situation. I just want to put out there that my friend committed suicide because of the pressures from her parents on doing well in school and she couldn't keep up with it and it is really scaring me that she was the only one that I could talk to and now I am completely lost. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Regards.
18. I've figured out that the inotropes would be the first because not all the shocks need fluid resucitation (ex. cardiogenic and neurogenic)
19. Hello everyone, I am a bit confused as to why the administration of inotropic agents comes before fluid resuscitation During the initial management of any patient in shock, the nurse knows that which of the following is an appropriate intervention?

a. Fluid resuscitation

b. Administration of vasopressors

c. Administration of inotropic agents

d. Administration of high-flow oxygen

ANS:C An inotropic agent (e.g., dobutamine [Dobutrex]) is often added to offset the decrease in stroke volume.
20. I was just looking through my textbook and for the interventions of DKA (which I would assume is pretty similar for HHNC). It had ensure patent airway, administer o2 and then insert a large bore IV catheter. I know I might be thinking way into this, but I remember getting a question on my exam very similar to this and the answer was actually the administration of O2. https://evolve.elsevier.com/objects/apply/RN/DiabetesTypeI/RN_21_59.jpg
21. Hello everyone, I have a question with this multiple choice question. 21.A diagnosis of hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketotic coma (HHNC) is made for a patient with type 2 diabetes who is brought to the emergency department in an unresponsive state. The nurse will anticipate the need to a.give 50% dextrose as a bolus. b.insert a large-bore IV catheter. c.initiate oxygen by nasal cannula. d.administer glargine (Lantus) insulin. B is the answer but my initial answer was initiate oxygen by nasal cannula because the pt is unresponsive. Now I am looking at the word unresponsive and that means the person is not responding to outside stimuli and a person who is unconscious is in a deep coma? I guess my question is pertaining to the context of what unconscious means in this question? Regards, CatnessK
22. Thank you for the information. What would your current study habits be right now? I am curious to know what has become effective for you when you were a student to how studying is like for you now! CatnessK
23. Hello dishes, I was able to purchase a study guide for my textbook and I was actually looking at American versions of the Lewis Med-Surg 7th textbook and the study guide and to my amazement I remember seeing some of my test questions on there. Do you mind if you DM me so I can give you more information on my study habits, I don't know how to DM? Thank you!
24. Hello Toaster, Thank you for the reply. I have actually decided to stay for the year and see where it takes me. I have a quiz and the final that I need for patho. If I get 100% (which I will definitely work my butt off to get) all I would need on my final exam is a 66%, which I have been getting for most of my tests (not saying that is a good thing at all). I talked to an academic advisor as well and I just came to the conclusion that I really don't want to disappoint my family. I have 4 younger siblings and for them to know that their eldest child failed a whole year of school is going to be a turmoil to explain on their actions for school. I really want to embark on doing well and failing is not an option for me anymore. I also worked at the beginning of the school year and was happy it was a seasonal employment because I would have definitely failed and I truly hope everything works out for you. Keep in contact with me and I can give you some notes if you would like! Thank you all for the comments once again, really appreciate it . CatnessK
25. Yeah it is for pathophysiology using the med-surg textbook. I really want to aim for 100% on this quiz!
