  1. Konya, You are not alone! You can do this & will.
  2. BabyTurtle: You are not alone. We all need support, especially now. Don't loose the faith!!
  3. Hi there! You will be receiving a Masters in Science. You are correct it is NOT an MSN. No, you will not have to take another master's in order to apply for advanced practice degree. I know this for fact because I am a CNL May 2017 alum :0)
  4. If you know you want an advanced nursing degree you are wasting time pursuing a second BSN. CNL is the route to go. I would highly recommend this school over any other. Maryland is a great place for networking. As far as GPA is concerned don't get yourself hung up on it. If you have hands on experience and you nail your interview there's no reason why you would not be accepted. Apply as soon as you are able, do not wait until you've completed all your pre-reqs, come in with all that info fresh. The rumor mill is that BSN get more clinical hours than CNL, but I'm really not positive of the facts. What I do know is that the clinical hours we have are more than enough to feel comfortable in your skill set. I'll let you in on the secret, nursing school is all one big pre-req because the actual hands-on nurse training comes with your first job, scary thought! Also, I would recommend that you search for a job as a PCT at Maryland in the meantime. With your CNA you are capable of doing that. Your already ahead of the game in that department, because after your first semester all of your classmates will be applying for their CNA. The first semester classes allow them to be eligible for their CNA license. You'll be fine, you'll get accepted and then the real fun will start!
  5. Hi Twinkles. I am currently in my senior year. If you have any specific questions I would be glad to help.
  6. If you can do the SSIP worksheet you are golden. The test looks exactly like that. I'm pretty confident pinkeagle would agree ;0)
  7. Well...at this point I would tie up any loose ends you have in your personal life, Silly stuff like dentist appts and oil changes. You will be at school four days a week for your first semester. Brush up on your basic anatomy and physiology. Make sure you can do the worksheets for medication calculation you receive at SSIP. You will be tested within the first month of school and you will need to earn 100%. No class goes over med calc, so if you are weak in it you have to put in the work on your own, like I had to do. You want to do that now, NOT when classes start. I would get your supplies, khaki scrub bottoms and white top, the UMD patch from the bookstore, stethoscope, pen light. Enjoy your free time a get excited for the new adventure ahead!
  8. There is also a facebook group for books. UMB SON Book Exchange
  9. I bought all new, hard back, owned not rented, I bargained shopped and Amazon was the best price. I would like to keep them since I know they would be a great reference, but I have to be able to afford next semesters books.
  10. Hi future CNL's: Just wanted to let you know I will be selling all of my first semester books. In awesome shape, no marks or writings. Let me know if your interested. I want to say all books for 1st semester cost about $1000 on Amazon. I hope everyone is getting geared up!
  11. Orientation or SSIP? Orientation..I would say your not missing anything critical. Its more about the policy and procedures of the school. Myself and my classmates had more questions after orientation. To be honest with you, I got the majority of my information from previous students and allnurses. SSIP..Helps you brush up on A&P and medication calculation dosages. Its a great opportunity to meet classmates, go over expectations for studying, register for class. I feel like I got more out of SSIP. Hope this helps!
  12. Anthroinscrubs: Sorry I totally missed your comment. For your first semester you will only have four weeks of clinicals, which will be completed at the end of your Fundamentals course. Most likely at a nursing home. You will have one day devoted to labs, Fundamentals and Assessment. Its a busy day, but a fun one! As far as supplies you definitely want a long lab coat, good quality stethoscope and pen light. I hope this helps! I love UMSON, but it can be a bit confusing when your phasing in so if anyone has questions I would be happy to help!
  13. Congrats to everyone who was accepted! Now the real fun begins. Little heads up: brush up on your a&p (especially if its been awhile) and medication calculation dosages. If you would like any recommendations let me know.
  14. You ladies are very fortunate to hear so soon! Due to the riots last spring it took much longer to hear back. Good luck to everyone interviewing! UMSON is an amazing school with awesome faculty! If you have any questions about the program or anything just ask. I check back occasionally, I can't wait to hear when you all are accepted!
  15. I am not sure as to the change this year, but last semester if you met all the minimum requirements you were invited for an interview.
  16. fakinw1: why did you not apply to PA programs with those creds? your fine. stop worrying. everyone, deep breaths. it will most likely take at least until November. My cohort had a deadline of Feb 1 and and I did not even see a change in my status until mid-April. They were still sending out acceptances in May. Its a slowwww process. Enjoy the journey
  17. UMB Baltimore Campus! It is, I totally get it. Just keep in the back of your mind, if you meet the minimum requirements, you get an interview and then you can really wow them.
  18. People will come out of nowhere the closer it gets to interviews and acceptance. Your core science classes are the only ones that matter when it comes to the 3.0 GPA minimum. As long as you meet minimum requirements listed online you'll be granted an interview. Don't get to caught up in the GPAs. I know my cohort starting in two weeks had GPAs all over the place. Hope this helps.
  19. Can any current students give some insight about the Kaplan standardized testing?
  20. Once you are accepted you attend an SSIP session which goes over med dosage calculations and a tiny a&p review. So right now I am working a little on both of those to refresh, but mostly I am enjoying my last four weeks of complete freedom! Of course I am shopping...books, scrubs, stethoscopes, rolly bookbag. lol. I can tell you I started the application process in Dec, my complete application was due Feb 1st and I did not get invited for an interview until April 15, I was accepted the next day. The process takes a lot of time, but if you meet the minimum requirements don't worry you will at least have an interview. Try to be patient, it is hard, but worth the wait.
  21. readyforschool, you can order uniforms through the bookstore or you can shop anywhere. as far as the textbooks, I know the only ones you will need for the first day of school are the ones listed on your welcome letter. you can check with the bookstore online to see if your other classes have any books listed. no, I don't believe you have to wear your scrubs on orientation. they will be telling us all of our requirements that day. i'm sure that day will clear up a lot for you. hope this helps.
  22. As a first semester student I believe when you register for your classes at SSIP you registered for your lab and clinicals. From what I understand clinicals are not off site first semester, therefore you don't have to do any extra signing up. I'm a CNL, so I am not positive how it is for BSNers.
  23. Good Luck to you anthroinscrubs! I will be starting the CNL program in just a few short weeks. If you have any questions or concerns let me know, I'd be glad to help!
  24. Thanks! I already ordered and received my dosage calculation book for class. I am working through it as we speak. I am so glad we have the rest of summer to brush up on it, lord knows I need it! It was so nice to meet everyone!
