  1. Are you trying for MCC?
  2. I have heard from other people that CTC is the hardest to get into in this area.
  3. Actually based upon MCC's point system they look much easier to get in then TC. If someone has a 4.0 in all their pre-reqs and co-reqs then they automatically get 43 points...and as long as they make a minimum score of 75 on required sections and a reading score above 95 then they get the full 3 points for the test. The only point that would be in questions is the 1 point for county resident if someone lived outside the county. I also remember reading on here from someone else that they have a lot less applying at MCC compared to TC so it gives a better chance at MCC.....and then you also got the fact that MCC has two admissions a year compared to TC's one.
  4. I was wondering if anyone would know the answer to this question. Concerning the pre-req and co-req courses, is there a time limit as to how old they can be? I know that the science courses usually have to be taken within the past 5 years for most admission to nursing programs, but the other courses like Psych and Engl how old can they be?
  5. So for people with previous other degrees.....when your talking about the financial aid at TC is that mainly loans or do they provide scholarships or grants that don't have to be repaid?
  6. Has anyone thought of applying to Austin Community College as a last resort? I have heard that CTC is probably the hardest and most competitive to get into in this area. It also seems like MCC has a better chance to get into since they don't have as many people applying compared to TC.
  7. I think the reason they go by the numbers and don't require or take into account personal statements or references is so that the process is objective and fair. At least that away everyone has a fair chance. With personal statements and references then the process becomes subjective and potentially unfair.
  8. Thank the Lord for some good news. That was the one class I would not have finished for next years application term.
  9. I have a friend who has a DWI that is sending in her Declatory Order. She is afraid of what they will say. So you said they gave you stipulations. What are the stipulations?
  10. So is A&P as hard as everyone says it is or is possible to make an "A" in it if Science is not a person strong subject? By the way, I was talking with a person today who recently moved from CA after graduating nursing school in 2013. They said that a lot of new graduates, including themself, was having a hard time finding a job as a new graduate. This person had to move to Texas just to get a job in a hospital. They also mentioned that a number of their classmates still have not found nursing jobs since graduating in 2013. Sounds pretty scarey about the job market for new graduates.
  11. For any of you that applied to the TC program....did any of you take A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology as online courses? And are they accepted like the regular classroom courses? Thanks
  12. When you say you had yours sealed back in 2010 do you mean a Non-Disclosure for a deferred adjudication?
  13. Is this a career change for you or did you go straight to nursing school after high school?
  14. On a general note....after reading post on these forums I have noticed that a lot of individuals are starting to say that the job market for an ADN new graduate is not the best. Do any of you have a concern about the job market after graduating from an ADN program? Also, do any know how is the job market in the central Texas area for new ADN graduates?
  15. Since it was deferred adj have you been able to have it sealed yet? If you have gotten it sealed then it states on the BON Order that you do not have to disclose it but the BON will still be able to see it. I know from talking to other people that some who had their def. adj. sealed did not disclose it and waited to see what the BON did...then there were others who did disclose it anyway. A lot depends on what type of charge it is.
  16. Thanks for the information. In some of the study material I have for the HESI I noticed that most of the math questions are multiple choice....but there are some where it gives you information and then says to enter the answer. So in the actual test are all questions multiple choice or are there some that are fill in the blank? Also, I was surprised that there were question about Roman numerals....I didnt think that would have anything to do with nursing.
  17. Well if the charge was dismissed then can you get it expunged and you won't have to worry about it or was it dismissed as part of deferred adjudication process?
  18. I was looking over some study material online for the HESI exam and I noticed that it mentioned that there was a drop down calculator that would show up on the screen on the math section of the exam. So does TC allow for the drop down calculator that is provided on the HESI exam to be used?
  19. Since your applying for the ADN program do you know if it is alright with the nursing program at TC to take the HESI Exam at another college since TC only gives it certain months out of the year? Thanks
  20. Thanks for the information. Since you are currently taking AP2 and Micro will they be used in determing your points for admission or not? Also, is taking AP2 and Micro at the same time very hard? Because to me it would seem like those two classes together would be hard. Well I won't be applying this year....I don't understand why TC only has one admission a year when CTC and MCC has two admissions a year for the Fall and Spring semesters.
  21. For the people applying for the ADN program this year do ya have all of your co-requisite courses (ie 2420 Micro, 2314 Psyc Lifespan, Elective) completed or just mainly the pre-requisites. If all the pre-reqs are completed but some of the co-reqs are not is it possible to be accepted into the program? Thanks Lisa
  22. Summer: Thank you for all the help. I know that you first became a LVN and then bridged into the ADN program, but I had a few questions about the overall process and was wondering if you might know some about it. 1. I know that TC only offers the Nursing Exam in February and March...is it alright to take it at another college that offers it year round (if not wanting to wait till next year) or will TC not accept it from another college? 2. For example...if someone took one of the non-science corequeset courses(ie PSYC) say about 5 years ago and made a B and then decided to take it over again this past year and made an A will they use the A score to factor in for the ADN program or will they average the two? Thank you. Lisa
  23. Thank you for all the information. It is really helpful to have when discussing it with my husband. If you dont mind I have a few general questions about the program that Im wondering about. 1. How many students are usually accepted into a cohort for the nursing program? 2. I have read some about how the clinicals work for different schools and was wondering for this program is each student assigned to a nurse and shadow that nurse at the clinical or is it usually a group of students to one nurse? 3. Concerning the schedule for clinicals....since they do start early in the morning at 6:45 are students ever allowed to come a little later or is that something instructors will not even allow? 4. I have been taking some of the pre-reqs and have a regular study group where I have met others who are interested interested in the nursing program and one is a guy and I told him that more and more guys are getting into nursing so he should really think about it as serious option. He was wondering what is usually the make up of a cohort depending on the number of guys and girls? Lisa
  24. Summer: Thank you so much for taking the time for the info. I have a few more questions if you don't mind. So if I get this correct then for the 1st year the schedule is as follows: M- 6:45 to 4 for clinicals no class T- 6:45 to 4 for clinicals no class W- 8 to 3 for class TH- 8 to 3 for class F- off Does that sound correct for the 1st year? For the 2nd year it would be as follows: M - clinicals and then class from 1 to 4 T - 6:45 to 4 for clinicals no class W- 8 to 3 for class TH- 8 to 3 for class F - off Does that sound correct for the 2nd year? You mentioned that some people do 12 hour clinicals on Friday so is it possible to do the 12 hour Friday clinicals in both the 1st and 2nd year or is that only for the 2nd year? Also, what is the time for the 12 hour clinicals? My major concern is that with my husband living in another state and with me having children the only problem I would have is that there would be no way I could be there in the morning for 6:45 am. I would have no problem getting there on time for the days for 8:00 am and the 12 hour clinicals on Friday I would probably be able to do that since it was only one day a week. So do they allow students to do the 12 hour Friday clinical for both the 1st and 2nd year? Also, where are the clinicals held? Thank you again for all the help. Lisa
  25. Hello: I am interested in eventually applying to the ADN program at Temple College once I finish all my pre-reqs but I have a few concerns that I was hoping some of you might be able to answer about the ADN program at Temple College. 1. For anyone who has been in the ADN program or had friends in is it mostly younger students or are there older students (ie 40's 50's etc) in the program? 2. I was also wondering how is the schedule of the classes during the week? What is the earliest time in the morning classes start and the latest time in the evening they end? 3. I noticed on the Temple College nursing web page that it states "Our nursing students must be available for day, evening, and possibly weekends for clinicals". So how is the schedule for clinicals usually determined....what are the hours and if your not able to do evenings if you have family to care for does the school take that into consideration and work with you? I appreciate any responses. Lisa.
