  1. Thanks so much for sharing- this was very encouraging to read! I know it won't be easy but it helps to know I'm not the only one going through it.
  2. I would like to hear from anyone that has gone through the unique experience of having a baby in the last semester(s) of NP school. I start my final year this August, and am considering trying to have a baby in May 2020 during the break between spring/summer semesters (4 weeks off). This means I would have a newborn while completing 180 hours in summer, and 240 hours in fall before graduating. Worth noting- I would have plenty of help from spouse/family. The other option is to have a baby in December right after I graduate, but I would really rather the baby be older when I start working (basically 9 months old vs. 2 months old if I am able to get licensing and a job by February). I know having a newborn in school is not the ideal choice, but the timing of life + school is just working out this way- I cannot put off school any longer without having to retake classes (I've already taken several semesters off). Any advice, personal experience or input here is truly appreciated!
  3. Actually, you can get away with any of the adult specialties. Most aesthetic/dermatology jobs (at least in my state of FL) only require an unrestricted NP license- no mention of specialty. However, they typically do want some previous experience in the field. It is worth noting that you can't just "do" aesthetics- you would have to get your foot in the door through connections and either find a surgeon that is willing to train you to do laser treatments and injectables, or you would have to pay for that training and get certified on your own to become marketable for that field. I'm going through this right now that's how I know lol.
  4. Thank you for the info! I didn't see the aesthetics forum before- I will see what I can find there.
  5. I am a WHNP-DNP student and, although I love women's health, I am interested in working in cosmetic surgery in the future. I understand that many plastic surgeons hire PA's to work both in the office and also to assist in surgery, but I am curious as to whether they might hire an NP strictly for seeing patients in the office and performing in-office procedures (injectables and laser treatments). (I live in FL and RN's are not legally permitted to do injectables) Do plastic surgeons hire NP's for their offices, and if they do, is there a preference for specialty? (specifically FNP vs. WHNP)
