  1. Hi! I'm planning on moving across the country to Portland, OR next year. My biggest question is, how far out do hospitals usually hire nurses? I'd like to have a job secured before I pack up all my things and move to a brand new city - I won't be able to afford living there long without a job! Will they guarantee a job a few months in advance? Any insight?
  2. I tried this with my moms old canceled card number because when I put in a fake number it told me it was an invalid number. I figured if I used that number and it tried to charge the $200 it can't since the card no longer exists anyway. If people are wondering if they did it correctly, this is what I did. I put the credit card info in, then pressed next. It took me to a page that says, "Your order is NOT complete until you click the Submit Order” button." Submit order is at the bottom. Once I pressed that, it reloaded the exact same page that has the "submit" button on it with "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time." written across the top of it. I just took the test, so hopefully that's a good indicator that I passed - we'll see! Definitely doing the quick results ASAP! It's worth the $7.95, in my opinion. lol
  3. Yes, people have dogs in the program lol someone even has a husky! Your life isn't totally destroyed while in the program, you just have to study a lot and write a lot of papers but there's still some free time. Some people even work! Also, they are really slow at getting the packet to you, which sucks. Expect it soon though, it may even show up the first or 2nd week of July.
  4. I sent you an email. :)
  5. Most people try to live in the White Coat ghetto because it's so close to Strong and Hellen Wood Hall. Goller house is a good option but the waitlist for that place is insane, unless you can find someone who is currently living there and become their roomie. Here's a couple of links that may help: Rochester student housing :: White Coat Ghetto Rochester White Coat District Student Housing
  6. My experience: Our cohort ended up being 65, I think. And they'll call you if you're accepted to see if you're still interested. If you are, they'll send your acceptance letter along with a bunch of forms you have to fill out and send back. They sent the letter a week after the phone call. They'll also want a deposit right away. The worst part is the waiting game!
  7. Hi! Check your inbox!
  8. If you get the military thing, that's amazing. Everything helps. There's someone else in the program who is getting military benefits as well, sounds like they're paying for a good portion of theirs (jealous). Mine was through Sallie Mae. My bank doesn't do student loans. Sallie Mae has been good so far.
  9. Thanks! And yeah it's daunting. Some loans allow you to defer payments until after graduation, some up to 6 months after graduation, but your interest is usually higher that way. I'm hoping for a good job after this and try to pay it off sooner rather than later so I'm not in debt forever. lol Good luck everyone. :)
  10. I got waitlisted but I'm actually attending University of Rochester's program right now, so I guess it doesn't make much of a difference for me lol But if you're on the waitlist, there'll be one less person competing for the spots!
  11. Yeah, you really don't have much of a choice but to go private. You can't do the PLUS loan for this program for some weird reason, even though it says it applies to professional students, but apparently not for this... $12,500 federal, $70k in private. I got a pretty decent interest rate, I would have liked to have kept everything federal though.
  12. *creeps back into your guys' thread* Watch out on the loans, U of R will send you a budget (I put it below) which advises having quite a bit of money lined up. You get to choose what you want to do with loans, but you'll be paying the school for sure over $63,000. My required books for the first semester were $600 (I dug through the internet for used and cheap ones, everyone else said they paid $600 or about that too). I also keep finding, since I moved cross country to go here, I keep buying stuff I didn't realize I'd need (e.g. vacuum cleaner, kitchenware, stocking up food supply, etc.). My loan ended up being $70k, which sucks. I got $12,500 from FAFSA, which I believe is the maximum that you can get for this program (I may be wrong). But the program is fantastic and U of R is extremely reputable. Also, being a private school there's a lot of perks - a nice surprise after attending a CA state school for my first degree lol. Lots of fantastic research comes out of here though. For example, I learned this week that Gardasil vaccine originated from U of R. So you're not paying a huge amount of money for a crap school, it's actually incredibly nice. Everything is state of the art and from the sounds of it, you get hired pretty quickly when you're done. Look at me, I've only been in the program for 2 weeks and I'm already a big advocate for the school lol This is the budget I have from financial aid, it might be useful for someone. I'm pretty sure everyone gets the same one. Tuition $62,046 Mandatory Fees $2,436 Room $8,400 Board $4,560 Books and Supplies $1,965 Travel $3,000 Personal $3,000 Total: $85,407
  13. I'm actually going to be starting one on my journey through nursing school. I'm trying to figure out if I'm allowed to say what school I'm attending. I've noticed that a lot of nursing students won't say what school they're in. I feel so long as you're not talking about patients or sitting there bashing your school, you should be good...I'm going to ask my advisor if I'm allowed to say though because I am super excited about my ABSN program lol
  14. Hey guys! I thought I'd creep your guys' thread, I'm starting in September. lol It's summer time so some of those in the SON admissions office have been out of town and/or busy. There's been a few cases where our stuff has arrived at funky times or there's some delays from people being gone. Don't worry, they'll get it done. They're busy folks in the office, but they're extremely nice - I can't wait to be a part of their program, they all seem so wonderful. So if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call them or email them, especially if you're worried about your application! I called them with quite a few questions, even before I was accepted, so don't worry about annoying them. It won't make them not accept you, questions are good. lol
  15. Hi! I found this on their website, but I'm still waiting on the official word on schedules and such. :) https://www.son.rochester.edu/assets/pdf/Z%202015%20Fall%20SEPT%20as%20of%20June%209.pdf
  16. I got mine on the 15th, some other people got theirs on 12th and 13th. I'd call them if it hasn't arrived! They don't give you much time to get the deposit and response to them. Mine was due the 19th.
  17. How did you pay? lol Funding seems to be a big factor.
  18. Do you have any tips or pointers?
  19. Join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/groups/RochesterABPNNSept2015/ Once the welcome packet gets here, I'll be sending off the deposit. I'll definitely be a classmate!
  20. I went ahead and made one. I believe anyone can join? Let me know (whether here or facebook) if there's issues. Also, Facebook required that I add at least one member to create a group, so of course I added my cat as the first member..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/RochesterABPNNSept2015/
  21. I'm looking for housing in general! I'm considering flying back there to scout out places. Roomies would be nice if I can't find a room to rent or a studio. Also, has anyone started a facebook group for those admitted?
  22. I'm interested! I've been looking at studio apartments because the White Coat Ghetto site basically says that pretty much everything is taken. But I imagine last years September cohort will be leaving soon... Are most places already furnished?
  23. Try calling, the office staff seems super nice whenever I've spoken with them. I saw on past threads people called and they'll tell you your status if you ask.
  24. Yeah, the money thing is a big deal since there's a short time period. I have a good savings, and I never qualified for much federal aid when I got my first degree so I should be okay in the federal department. Also, a while back I was curious about housing and I collected a few links if anyone needs them.
