  1. I work in a clinic that closes from 12:30-1 each day for lunch. The four of us in our office eat together and usually watch The Bold and The Beautiful (it was a tradition before I got here - haha). We talk about all sorts of things and everyone gets along very well. We're sort of like a very productive dysfunctional family.
  2. Does anyone else feel like all of these posts coming from accounts that were made just this month are looking to stir the pot? They're always on touchy topics, have a click-bait headline and contain slightly incorrect information. Seems fishy, but maybe its just me?
  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has an issue with starting IVs! I fail every time, too. I HATE it, I want to be good and I'm just not.
  4. I haven't read the thread yet, but I'm going to bet something crazy dramatic happened in a far-away land and OP was the ONLY one who could save the day/did the right thing! Am I right?
  5. I work in an outpatient/infusion clinic in a rural access hospital. There are two full-time RNs here and share space/work with the hospital's scheduling department, which has one CNA and one LPN. (We also work with Cardiopulmonary Rehab where there are 2 RNs and 1 CNA.) Nearly every day of the week we have a different specialist in: podiatry, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, hematology, oncology, gyno, ENT, neurology/pain and urology all come here. Some of them require rooming patients and some bring their own staff and we assist as needed. Some of those physicians also require us in the room to assist with minor procedures (cerumen impaction, drain removal, etc...). We also have scheduled nursing procedures to perform, which can include: injections, infusions, chemotherapy, mediport flushes and PICC line flushes/dressing changes, cardiac stress tests, blood transfusions or whatever other random adventure is dropped on us. I love my co-workers, my patients and my docs. I love the variety of things I am exposed to and the amount of freedom we have as a department. We currently work Mon-Fri from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
  6. My favorite (so far) has been: Zonefur 100 mg IV to be given over 4 hours x 1. Physician meant VENOFER, first of all, which we only give as 250 or 300 mg and it infuses over 30 mins - 1 hour. But he was ticked at our clinic for calling to clarify.
  7. At the end of the day, I look it this way: does it hurt you to address another human being with respect and compassion using the terms that they have chosen for themselves? No, I don't think it does. I am an agnostic, I don't believe in your god or any other (I actually feel religion does more harm than good for the world at large), but if I have a patient that asks me to pray with them? I will bow my head and hold their hand because it ISN'T ABOUT ME. It is about that person in that moment who needs someone to be there for them. Do I agree with what they're doing? No. Absolutely not. Is if difficult for me personally? Yes, but that has to be pushed aside because this isn't MY room and I am not the patient. No one is asking you to abandon what you believe in but if you can't be inclusive of your patients with your views, please consider another career as you may do more harm than good. Transgendered individuals as an overall population already face abuse and discrimination, they don't need or deserve that from their healthcare providers. And if all else fails, please change your assignment from that patient.
  8. I had a Med Surg instructor who used "Frank" - her (imaginary) ex-boyfriend that she kept in her basement - as the example for every single issue we discussed. It was such a weird, funny little thing that you always thought of Frank and his numerous issues when taking an exam. Also having a conversation with our Psych/Therapeutic Communications professor was like going to a therapy session because she was so soothing and warm. One of my favorite professors ever, to this day.
  9. Thanks for sharing the info, jwalla20! I think we're all pretty anxious about the start of the awards being given out.
  10. I haven't heard from or talked to a recruiter as I haven't submitted yet. I've just been putting together my online application. This was a question to be asked PRIOR to submitting information to prevent having to resend things.
  11. I am also currently applying and used the new method that allows you to auto upload federal loan information. I have loans from a prior degree that were also pulled in and I can't see a way to delete them. When you open the loans, it clearly states which were paid to my nursing school and which were for my prior degree but I don't want them thinking I'm trying to "work the system" to get all my loans covered. Does anyone know if this is an issue? I've e-mailed the help address but it's a two business day wait and I'd like to get my app in asap. Thanks for any guidance! And good luck all!
