Hello! I've been a nurse for over 3 years with most of my career spent in a Level IV NICU. I have also done a year of school nursing (while still doing PRN NICU) to better match my family's schedule but found that I hated it. I have attended many high risks births as a NICU nurse and I am interested in switching specialties to L&D. Has anyone else made this transition? What were the challenges? Any current L&D nurses who didn't switch have any input?

I am looking into applying for the fall so I'd love to follow this. how was your process?

Hello! I just applied today for the August 12th start date. The enrollment specialist said she sees no reason why I won’t be accepted and it won’t take very long to know. Hopefully, I’ll be joining you all. If there’s a Facebook group, I’d love to join once I’m accepted.

Thank you! Those are the things I had been looking for but I had a couple of teachers send the kids right back and say that they felt like it wasn't just allergies. Thankfully, I have administration that trusts my judgement and allows me to make the final call.

Hello, I'm fairly new to school nursing (just switched out of the hospital at the end of last semester) so there are some things I'm still learning to judge appropriately. Several of our students have confirmed cases of both bacterial and viral pink eye. The pollen here in Texas also recently started raging and allergy season is in full effect but teachers are concerned that every student with itchy, watery, and/or pink eyes are actually infected and filling my clinic with these students. How do you tell the difference?

I also had a second interview! No calls yet!

It was definitely intense but Match Day felt like it went well! I pray that it actually went as well as it felt haha

Thank you! It was an email. She responded to the email I sent in response to the "what unit and what's your GPA" question (in the original behavioral assessment email) with the invitation to Match Day.

I spoke to TMC/Children's. I still haven't heard from Katy. I'm not entirely sure how the first and second choice thing works. I have now received an invitation to Match Day for TMC/Children's but it didn't mention anything about Katy. í ¾í´”

Same! I spoke to a recruiter and she said the invites should be out by the end of this week! I'm patiently waiting but I'm from out of town so I would like to book a flight ASAP.

No, I received the pre-match day email from Children's, but so far that's all!! How about you?

I applied to the NICU at Children's MH and L&D at Katy. I can't go to pre-match day because I'm from out of state.

Hi jess92, I graduate in December and plan to apply to TCH in the next few months. Do you mind sharing the new grad pay rate and diff? Any application/interview tips?

Do do you know if pay is higher in the med center than for the other hospitals for Memorial Hermanm?

I am a student on the Athens campus.....we have everything that the Augusta campus has to offer! Our class is just smaller which is great because we all know each other pretty well and that makes the process that much more bearable! You only go to Augusta once at the beginning of the program, once about halfway through, and then to graduate. Otherwise, all of our classes are the same as theirs!!

I applied at the very end of November and it took about 5 weeks from the time I submitted my application to be invited for an interview [January]. I had my interview the second week of January and was accepted around the second week of February! All together, I'd say it's about an 8-10 week process IF you get your application completed early [including all transcripts, recommendations, etc]. I know people that applied later [during or after January/February] and their admissions time took a bit longer. The good thing about GRU, from what I can tell, they don't just look at GPA. Every little thing counts. I don't think my GPA was very competitive, BUT I did outstanding on my GRE, wrote a very heartfelt personal statement, and answered honestly in the application when it asked about academic obstacles I faced. I got a few bad grades during a very rough period of life and I explained that! I think I also reiterated it in my interview that my GPA didn't reflect my caliber as a student.
