  1. Wow this is all great information, thank you so much! I agree and will make sure to gather as much info as I can from the onset. Like you guys mentioned charting and completing the assessment questions etc seem like such a hurried and overly prioritized part of admissions, but I must not lose sight of the most crucial actions which are the skin and physical assessment, dnr/dni. I guess it's a skill I will perfect with time and experience. Thanks again for taking time to reply!
  2. Hi!! I'm a new grad nurse currently in orientation and will soon work evenings in a busy med-surg unit. I hear it can be chaotic when slammed with several new admissions which frequently occur during this shift, while managing anything from 6-8 patients. As a new nurse this makes a little nervous, and so I'm writing to ask if you guys have any experiences to share or reccomendations on how I can be time efficient and manage this challenging task. Thanks so much!
  3. Love this response! I'm a new grad who will start work shortly and hearing this is very reassuring! ❤️
  4. Thank you so much for the advice. I agree, will hold Of on the ACLS for now. Also, I am definitely looking at areas outside of the city, as you said, I should bag a few years of experience and then come back. Thanks again.
  5. Hi Everyone, I know there is some information out there with regards to whether or not being ACLS certified is an advantage in the recruitment process, however I couldn't find anything recent / specific. Just as an overview, I am a soon to be BSN grad with zero nursing experience, residing in highly competitive nyc, so I'm a little curious to know if being ACLS certified will be an advantage in helping my resume stand out? It costs a lot of money, and I am aware many hospitals do provide this certification if there is a need for it. I just want to do everything within my means to support my endeavor of getting hired, so if this is going to help, I absolutely don't mind taking the course. Do you guys think I should? Thanks in advance for your feed back and advice! I'm so appreciative.
  6. Thank you Sally, and everyone who took time to reply. I'm so glad I reached out and asked for advice, this forum is such an amazing and supportive network for nurses. I will start looking for sitters stat and definitely adjust to accommodate my new job. Thanks again for saving me from a huge blunder.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm a new grad RN, also a mom and my husband works weekends. I currently have a great job in the works, and I'm wondering, is working weekends a must? And if I state my inability to do so, will it jeopardize my chances at getting this job? My issue with being unable to work weekends is only because there would be no one to watch my kids as my husband works. Otherwise I have no issue working holidays etc. Any advice on this and ways to get around it without ruining my chances at this job would really mean so much. Thanks in advance!
  8. I was 31 when i started, a 4.5 year BSN..i am now on my last semester. I am married and a mom of 3 in a crazy tough nyc program. I had no one to help with the kids apart from my husband who works really long hours. Yes its super hard cause of the volume of material in a short frame of time but had no idea how hard it was, ignorance was bliss in my case, so i just put my head down and worked freaking hard with a tunnel vision of achieving my goal. Taking your circumstanced into account i believe you can totally do it!!! A types thrive in nursing, i know cause i am one!! Good luck with everything!!
  9. Thanks for taking time to reply. Yes, I wont even try till I have my BSN, I fought to get into this nursing program. Worked so hard to stay in it and get good grades. Its upsetting to think I will struggle to find a job when I finally graduate after all this. I see what you mean about agencies being ideal for experienced nurses. Thanks again.
  10. Hi, I am a cuny nursing student in a highly competitive program and recently completed my associates. I have zero work experience, and I am working toward my bsn which I will complete next spring. My question is, should I be planning to move state once I graduate in order to find a job, or is there hope for a decent job in NYC or even NJ / PA? I have been told the fastest way to a job is through an agency. But I have read very discouraging things about agencies ( they take a huge chunk of your pay and there is hardly any training for a new grad which could jeopardize an RN license). I know I am getting ahead of my self at this point given I have not taken the NCLEX yet or completed my BSN which I know is a MUST, but I just want to know, is my future as an RN in NYC bleak? Are agencies as bad as they are made out to be? What states are best for new grads these days?... Really appreciate any advice on the truth of the situation.
  11. Hi, I am just curious, I am thinking of purchasing the Lippincot Nursing manual just as a general reference guide. I am wondering though will I need this when I start working as an RN? Like do nurses have a nursing manual with them for nursing diagnosis, and for quick reference while on the job? I am nervous about how it works when I'm working and I am not sure of something? will I google it on my phone? what does everyone do? just trying to justify this purchase I guess. Thank you for your help. xx
  12. Thanks for your reply! Well, i something I I find interesting in general, and for Pre-Req psychology I scored an A...but I'm guessing that doesn't relate or come even remotely close to what I'll be learning in Psych. Either way yes, I am interested in it for sure, so hopefully I will do good. Thanks also for the book suggestions, heading to Amazon now to have a look!
  13. Hi Everyone, I just passed Med Surg 2 and am heading into Psych ( Semester 3) .... I'm just wondering if you guys found Psych to be harder than Med surg 2? and Why? Also, I want to prepare my self over winter break while recuperating from the trauma of Med Surg 2.... do you guys have any tips, suggestions or books that will help me with Psych? Thanks so much xx
  14. Thank you. yes we did manage to do that on a few questions for the last exam and she fixed our grade. So we might have to just fight for some of those ambiguous questions that made no sense.
  15. Thank you! I understand what you're saying..I told my self this will only help me come time for the nclex. But my teacher makes these tests her self? ....her rationales are not always rational
