Advice needed, ASAP PLEASE
I won't go in to all the particulars of the situation, but, my CC (clinical coordinator) left a phone message on my HUSBAND"S phone (which I gave to them for ER situations) stating a pt's name and meds they were to receive and asking if they had been given (which they had.) It is bugging the hell out of me that my husband not only knows this pt's full name but he also knows one of the medications she is taking! Am I wrong to be upset by this? Am I wrong to think that this nurse, who is my mgr did the wrong thing? I don't talk about my pt's w/ my family except in generic terms but, now, my husband has a pt's full name and meds she gets! WTH! A nurse w/ 20+ years doesn't know better???? Am I mandated to report this????? I swear I just want to call in tomorrow and say I resign...I don't want to have to be spending my time wondering if I am at risk w/ the Board for NOT reporting...... It is seriously making me ill.

FA Making us fill home pill boxes.
OH my! Am I the only one that sees multiple liability issues with filling a pt's home med pill box? If our FA told us to do this I would politely refuse, state my reasons for refusing and deal with whatever reprimand she/he would give me. Scenario: Pt goes home, takes the meds you filled the box with for the next day. Has a massive coronary event, blames the dialysis nurse for "filling the pill box with the wrong med." How are you going to prove you did not? If the pt is to the point of not being able to take the correct medications on a daily basis it's time for the family to intervene and take appropriate actions. Just my 2 cents. :)

Outraged by no more privacy
You will be glad they had you get those vaccines the first time you get body fluids splashed all over you and trust me, it WILL happen no matter how careful you are... :)

Would any of you do this?
I would definately set boundaries with your brother's. Let them know you are there to make sure your Uncle does the things he needs to be doing on a daily basis but you are not there to be there live in maid/laundry person/grocery shopper etc. If your Dad has offered to pay you, take it. Your time and effort in making sure he is well cared for and safe are worth a wage. What would the alternative be? To put him in a LTC facility that has 24/7 care? That is not cheap! I don't know where you live but here you can't get LTC for an elderly person for less than 3K a month and that's the cheap end. An Alzheimer's unit would cost much more. If your wanting to do this, take the wage, set the boundaries and know that eventually his disease progression will make it necessary to put him in LTC. I know, I've been there. Good luck!

Can You Believe This?
You did the right thing. You have your 1 yr med/surg experience, I would be getting my resume ready if I were you. I would not put my nursing license on the line for ANY facility's staffing issues. Yeah, we still "eat" our young, sad but true.
