2010 Navy ODS Class
delta, thanks comrade. my recruiter is very good in responding to my concerns. he did tell me he spoke with the detailer and that the detailer will get to me. so i'm going to wait at least this week for the detailers call. if i do not get any calls by friday, then i'm going to have to call her (frances smith) next week. after nov, 15, the next date would be january. i prefer going as soon as possible. thats why i am hoping the detailer will call me as soon as possible so there will still be availabe spot for me in november. can i ask a favor from you, delta? please email me at my yahoo email add. there is something i want to ask from you. to all those worried about swimming: remember, whatever positions you will do (supine, prone, lateral), whatever swimming strokes you will use, how deep the pool or ocean is, you first have to be comfortable. thats the golden rule. what that means is, the moment you jump in the water, the first things comes to your mind is not (oh my god, this is deep, i cant breathe, etc, etc). instead, think about how it feels so good, how it feels relaxing and how your skin feels fresher and cleaner. then everything comes as it is. you will start waving your hands and flipping your legs like you are michael phelps. please do not post email addresses in the public message boards, per out tos. other members may email you from your profile. thanks- the mod team

2010 Navy ODS Class
Hello guys I graduated May 2009. I submitted my application to the boards end of January 2009. i got finally selected just two weeks ago. I am here at New Jersey. I have been working as a nurse since 2005 (as an associates). I spoke to my recruiter in NY/NJ area and said the he is waiting for my orders for commissioning. The detailer is yet to contact me regarding on when I am going for ODS. I got really frustrated that it is taking too long. I thought I would be in October (2009) ODS thats why I did not participate in many seminars, CEU's and MEd-Surg certification. I would have been taking an exam in Med-Surg certification on October 24 but I told my manager at that time that I cant take the exam since I might be gone to the Navy. Now I learned October is full so the earliest I could go for ODS is November, which is of course not guaranteed. This is not a complaint. I realized I have to be patient. I will be patient as long as it takes. I already sacrificed a lot for the Navy so I might as well take all the patience as I possibly as I can. So my suggestion to you guys, is if you can contact the detailer as soon as possible and get as guaranteed date on your ODS, do it. I dont know who the detailer is in NY/NJ area but I am hoping he would give me a call anytime soon so I know when I am going. In that way. I can determine what certifications, seminars I can attend to so I would be more rounded nurse going to the Navy. You guys are lucky at least you know who the detailer is and you spoke with him. My recruiter told me he spoke with the detailer and will call me last week. But I have not gotten any calls from the detailer. Well, I just wanna tell you that try to get an exact date of your ODS so at least your not in the dark. Best of luck to oyu guys, y wish lists are San Diego, Hawaii and Washington D.C.

Recruiters not telling us the truth
Let me just clarify, are you saying that joining the military is not for you if you question the "recruiting process or any process there is in the military?
-
Recruiters not telling us the truth
so tell me, What makes you a good fit in the military?
-
Recruiters not telling us the truth
Everyone already knows that Change is constant. Wherever you go, there is always change. But that is not what the problem is. The problem is, if change is indeed happening in the military, (just like anywhere else), then how come the recruiter don't change their statements? They will tell you one thing and thats it. Even though what they said are different from what other recruiters said. How come you guys dont even know the quota for the fiscal year has been met? How come you don't know that? If your recruiter tells you that, then I don't think there will be anyone posting here when they are going for commission and so on and so forth. How come my recruiters tell me "Don't pay attention to what you read in this site??????? How come one person here wrote, her recruiter told her that "Navy don't need nurses right now, instead they need Social worker? Where did that information come from (Is it because of change?) So the poor lady have to start from scratch and finish her Masters for social work? If change is your reason why recruiters tell us different things, thats your opinion. With regards to your advice that maybe civilian work is better for me (or work first to gain valuable experience with the Navy), I don't think so. I am not waiting until I become 30-40 years old before joining the Navy. (Of course, no offense to anyone!! I respect you guys). I am joining the Navy now and want to use my skills and talents for Navy's benefit. Don't misunderstood me and think that I hate "change" nor the US Navy. I love the NAvy and I am looking forward to being a part of it. I have been in constant change and if you only know my history, you won't believe how I rises to the occassion everytime there is change going on in my life. So I dont hate "change" nor the Navy. What I hate is the lack of "ethics" in the recruiting level. In other words, is it change or is it deception? or lack of knowledge? or lack of trust? or lack of communication? what ever it is, I hope it is not just change alone. Because if that is the case, then there is no other way we could intervene and improve the recruiting process.

Recruiters not telling us the truth
Im graduating May 14 with BSN, suma cum laude with GPA of 3.95. I am currently working part-time RN (with ADN) at a community hospital. Im only 26 years old. Im single and readly to relocate. I submitted my packet end of January. My receruiter told me I got selected but because the Navy quota had been met, I'm going to have to wait until October to go ODS. However, she mentioned that I am on the alternate list. But what really bothers me is why a lot of nurses and applicants here does not seem to know this information my recruiter told me. It just doesnt make any sense to me. What I really hate is why those recruiters don't tell us exactly the truth. It is obvious that the recruiters were telling us different things. So, Im done reading allnurses.com for this topics because it just keeps giving you wrong information. I hate to think like this but it seems to me that its either they don't tell us exactly the truth or they just don't know what they are doing. So, for my recruiter who told me that I should expect going to ODS on October, thats fine, I will wait until October. But if I dont get to ODS on October, then thats it for me. At least I tried my best to be part of the Navy. I dont want my high GPA and my experience and young opportunities (Im only 26, single and willing to relocate anywhere) be used working with people who either dont know what they are talking or doing and/or don't tell me exactly the truth, I rather work in a civilian environment.

Navy Nurse Corps...has anybody heard anything?
My recruiter told me that the quota for the fiscal year has been met. But she also mentioned that the Navy prioritize the reserves and NCP. So, if it was true that the Navy met its fiscal year and NCP is the priority, you should expect going to ODS on October. What I really hate is why those recruiters don't tell us exactly the truth. It is obvious that the recruiters were telling us different things. So, Im done reading allnurses.com for this topics because it just keeps giving you wrong information. Navy Nurse Corps...has anybody heard anything?
what do you guys mean by selected but pending approval after graduation. This is not what I was told. I was told that it was already approved and therefore I should plan on going to ODS on Octobers since the quota was met. I am also in the alternate list so I can go anytime after May 14, 2009. I dont know if my recruiter was bullshiting me or what, coz I told her Im getting scholarship grants from some hospitals coz I have good GPA but if I accepted it then I have to forget about going to the NAvy. Plus, because I was trying to finish my bachelor's, I changed my status to working part-time but now that Im graduating, I need a full-time job. So if Dont hear from the Navy, then I probably have to change my plan. Then she emailed me back telling me I got selected.

Navy Nurse Corps...has anybody heard anything?
hey guys, my recruiter emailed me and said that I got selected for the Navy Nurse Corps!! The quota for the fiscal year has been met so I should plan on going to ODS on October but I am on the alternate list so there is a chance I could go after I graduate this May. My question to you guys is, after I graduate on May, what should I expect? Am I going to receive a letter telling me I got selected for commission on OCtober or I have to wait until my recruiter call me and tell me what to do ? I want to make plans after my graduation like a month vacation but it is hard to make those plans if I don't know how everything will play out especially if I don't know the process involved.

Awaiting for commission US NAVY NURSE, why it is taking too long
My recruiter submitted my packet to the boards last week of January. It is February 28 now and I have not heard anything since. I called my recruiter and no return calls as of yet. What is going on? And how come nobody knows when the selection boards meet? Does anyone here knows what is going on, when the selection boards meet, When am I going to find out I got selected? btw, I'm still studying for my Bachelor's for Nursing, currently working with ADN degree but I will be graduating this May. I wrote on my application that Im ready to go to Rhode Island for the ODS on June 2009. I hope somebody can answer my question.

US Navy application for commission
Im basically done with everything. I had my physical at MEPS long time ago. I was interviewed by two officers already. I gave them my transcripts, citizenship paper and passport, I submitted application for commission with my personal statement. So Im basically waiting and just anxious how long the review board process takes. Even if they did approved my application, are they gonna let me go in Rhode Island for ODS on June 2009 as I expected or Im gonna have to wait for several more months!

US Navy application for commission
Please Provide me information 1) I've been an RN for three years working on a med-surg unit. I only held associate's degree. But I will be graduating this spring semester (May 2009) to have my BSN. My current GPA is 3.94. I sent my application for commission to my healthcare recruiter but she still wants me to provide her some references so it will take a while before she sends it to the board. Supposed she send it at the end of January, how long would the process usually take? I wrote that I want to be in ODS on June 2009 after I graduate on May and I've been telling my coworkers and friends there's no reason they will delay my application. 2) I do understand that sometimes delay will take place becasue of problems they found out. What problems do they usually see that causes extreme delay? Ok, I'll be honest. These are the things they might see on my record. I only wrote that I have a ticket last March for improper passing. (I paid the ticket). However, I also have several speeding tickets which I paid too. When I came here in US on 2002, I worked first as a nursing assistant for two years while in nursing school. However, I did not include that in my work history. I don't have any contacts with any of my coworkers and that my supervisors I believe hate me. I call out sick a lot. But they didn't fire me, I quit. After I got my associates on May 2005, I work in a oncology floor for a year. Then moved to a hospital closer to where I lived. My problem is, I really did not have any leadership positions held. Also, my recruiter told me to contact some of my co-workers from my previous job, and fine, I gave her somebody's info. But even if they contact her, how could that person provide valuable information if that person only worked for me for one year. please lemme know if this is cause for delay in my application. 3) Im only 25 years old, male. 26 on September, single and have no dependents. I have no physical deformities and never been hospitalized. I signed that Im willing to work active duty for four years. Came in US in 2002 from Philippines, I got my citizenship last year 2008. What possible reason a person like me will have his application delayed? THANK YOU ALL GUYS, somebody interviewed me already, one is a pilot and the other one is a nurse in bethesda, I told her I go to allnurses.com for information and LT Dan is the big dog here. She said she doesnt know what allnurses is but she knows Lt dan.

Want to be a navy nurse, but why my recruiter wants me to enlist?
ok guys thanks to all your advices. Now I just spoke to the recruiter and told him evrything but he told me this: iM NOT QUALIFIED AS AN OFFICER AS OF YET, I DONT HAVE MY CITIZENSHIP AND BESIDES NAVY OFFICER MAY NOT PROCESS MY APPLICATION SINCE THEY PREFER THOSE NROTC!! SO THEY WANT ME TO WORK AS NAVY RESERVE HOSPITAL CORPSMEN WHCIH WILL DEFINITELY WORK FOR ME, SINCE i ONLY HAVE TO REPORT ONCE A MONTH AND 2 WEEKS A YEAR IN A BASE CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE, THUS I CAN STILL WORK FULL TIME IN A HOSPITAL WHERE I CURRENTLY WORKING FULL TIME. NAVY COUNSELOR WHO WAS THERE IN THE OFFICE STATED THAT THEY WILL PROCESS MY OFFICER APPLICATION EVERY 6 MONTHS AND WILL BE BETTER SINCE BY THAT TIME COMES I ALREADY HAVE SOME TRAINING!!! GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK!!! MY QUESTION IS, ARE THEY REALLY GOONA WORK ON MY OFFICER QUALIFICATION AND DO I HAVE TO FINISH MY TERM IN THE RESERVE BEFORE I CAN BE AN OFFICER?????
