  1. Yes, why don't we band together? If there were more men in the profession it might happen. Sounds sexist, but I think it is true. Women tend to attack each other instead of sticking together. During my busy day yesterday noted the manager and a nurse on light duty (for what I don't know) just sitting around giggling and discussing the manager's upcoming Vegas trip. Gee thanks guys! I had a bad day yesterday, and at the end of the shift (change of shift), a middle aged patient's father was angry because no one came fast enough to help her to the bathroom. She is weak and needed a light assist to walk to the bathroom, which he (a strong looking 70ish man) could have easily done. I was so upset and went home and applied for a job in psych - a specialty I love and left a few years ago.
  2. I just started working two months ago at University Hospital (for the second time), worked there before for a couple of years. I have never heard of a $5000 bonus. How did you get this?
  3. Thank you for all the responses, comments, and advice. I am still undecided about this program, as the cost seems prohibitive. I am going to apply to The University of Cincinnati Master's program. I think the cost would be less. If that doesn't work out - then may the U of P. Ildiko
  4. I am seriously considering enrolling in the U of P for the MSN with an education focus. I would love to teach. I have been a nurse for nearly three years, and every time a teaching moment comes up - whether for peers or patients - I love it! I just finished a BA in Psych and work in Behavioral Health - I feel I have found my true niche in nursing. I would like to hear from a few RNs who have pursued or are pursuing their MSN from U of P.
  5. I like that - "soul nurse!" I have been doing psych nursing since last April, and I really enjoy my job. Many of our clients are impoverished and you feel as if you are really doing some good sometimes. Many of the clients just want someone to listen, to care, and to do a few simple things for them. The mentally ill suffer a lot, and you need to be compassionate, but at the same time - you need to set limits - and watch for interactions between patients, it can be demanding mentally.
  6. Hello, I passed the first time with 75 questions. I was a nervous wreck for a few days until I knew. I didn't take the exam until about four months after I graduated - I was so freaked out about it. Ildiko
  7. Wow, I have noticed the same thing about the older nurses. Many are overweight and eat junk food, smoke, and then complain they feel like crap. They see me eating healthy food and say they don't have time to eat healthy. Well, I work full time, go to two college classes, have a husband and a child at home, etc, etc. so I don't know what they are talking about. I think they love their unhealthy way of life.
