  1. 'Big George: Autobiography of an Angel' is also a good one. Written from the baby's point of view.
  2. yep...it never alarmed. The only thing that would have helped was if the baby would have been on a pulse ox.
  3. We lost a baby a while ago that went into PEA. Chronic gastroschisis kiddo that was having some emesis/feeding issues. Long story short...Nec. It hit her really fast...KUB's didn't show anything...they thought she was just being a gut kid. Obviously she was fussy... was put in a swing and finally calmed down. The monitor never alarmed. Feeding time came and when the nurse went to check on her she was gone. Long horrible code. It was very scary to think something like that can happen. It really makes me never want to put a fussy kid in a swing, dim the lights, and go chat with my roommate till the next feed.
  4. I just watched an episode of Mystery Diagnosis on Discovery Health. There was a 3 year old that had severe vommiting and constipation off and on since birth. After being passed off as a virus for years it was discovered that the kid has a D-Hernia. His stomach and part of his large intestine were in the chest cavity. His only symptoms mentioned were vommiting/constipation. I'm having a hard time figuring out how this kid had no respiratory issues?? Can somebody help me figure this one out?
  5. Hey everybody! I'm graduating in December and just got the call today about my first interview in a PICU. I'm so nervous! I've mainly been applying to NICU and PICU hoping to land an internship in either one. I happened to email a nurse manager on a pediatric floor asking where to send my resume, etc. and next thing I know I'm getting a call from the PICU manager asking for an interview. Kinda shocking cause she hasn't even seen my resume or transcript. But I'm really looking for some help on the interview process. Its a first interview so I can expect some of the basic questions. What other kinds of questions are usually asked? My concern is that with my pediatric rotation in school I was at a hospital that mainly focused on orthopedic issues...lots of spina bifida and muscular dystrophy. I haven't really had much experience in a PICU. But I'm so ready to learn...and truly feel a calling to work with children in some way. Any interview help and words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
