  1. Hi all, I am considering a move (back) to Alaska. I am currently practicing in Internal Medicine in Washington State. The application for licensure in Alaska requires a referral and consultation plan, which I have not had to formally do to date. Looking for some resources or guidance on how to pull this together. Much appreciate!
  2. I just received an email confirming my interview time of 10:30. It also said there was a luncheon and a campus tour. I'm guessing that the interviews will be done in a group format. How else can they get through them all in one day?
  3. Anyone else in or out? Not much chatter going on with this thread.
  4. I've been fortunate enough to have been invited to interview for the ABN to FNP program at OHSU. I'd love any advice on what to expect in the interview process to those of you who may have gone through it or have a similar experience to share. Thanks!
  5. I'm sorry! Good luck with any other programs you may have applied to.
  6. Hmmmm, I'm not sure what to say. From my experience the folks that answer the phone don't always have the best information and that can lead to frustration. If it is at all helpful, here is the text of the email I received on Tuesday: We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to interview for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science to Masters in Family Nursing Practice cohort at the School of Nursing at Oregon Health and Science University. We will be interviewing candidates on campus in Portland on Thursday January 28th, 2016. Please save the date. You will be receiving further communication with your assigned interview time and directions to the campus. We look forward to meeting you. With warmest regards, The Family Nurse Practitioner Faculty and Staff
  7. I haven't heard anything aside from the very general email saying that I got an interview on January 28th. They said they will be sending more details about exact times soon. I'd be happy to share my academic record if you want to PM me.
  8. Me too! Congratulations! Now, of course, I'm dying to know how many they will interview.
  9. I still haven't heard a peep. Anyone have ANY ideas on how we can try to track down some more information? I'm really getting anxious.
  10. Yes, I noticed that too! Let's keep communication open. I'm going crazy!
  11. I am not. Are you? I actually live in Alaska, so need to plan my travel. I'm really hoping they let us know in time for me to get a two week advance ticket.
  12. I'm wondering the same thing! In snooping around posts form prior years it seems like notifications for interviews came only within a few days of the interview dates. I'm hoping this is not the case this year.
  13. I applied for ASBN to FNP and haven't heard anything. I'm getting really anxious!
  14. Thanks Heathermaizey. I have talked to the school and have an understanding of admission requirements. I'm just wondering if anyone had any information on what the "typical" accepted student looks like. GPA, experience, etc. Also how many they accept vs. how many applicants they receive. Sorry…I wasn't very clear in my OP. Thanks!
  15. Their take on it was that the population density on the east coast creates a bigger push for specialists, while the relatively less dense west coast has a greater need for generalists. It's an interesting thought and obviously they got this from somewhere. It may only be applicable to MDs, but I think it's worth considering since I'm aiming for FNP.
  16. (Sorry...I posted this originally in the incorrect forum) Any insights as to just how difficult this program is to get into? I feel like I should be a pretty strong candidate, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. I have a PhD in Biology and an undergraduate GPA of ~3.75. I am currently taking a few prereqs that I never took as an undergrad (e.g. A&P series). I just started as a volunteer at the local hospital and hospice and also have a number of opportunities to shadow providers at a family practice clinic. Any insights would be helpful! TYIA!
  17. I'm looking at direct entry MSN programs with the goal of practicing as an FNP. I was recently talking to some doc friends of mine and they both indicated that west coast schools are far better for family practice than east coast schools. Does anyone have any insight into this?
  18. I'm looking to enter either an ASBN program to a combined ASBN to MSN program within the next 12 to 18 months. There seem to be so many options out there! What is the best way to evaluate the quality of these programs? Thanks!
  19. Thank you all for the replies. I certainly understand your advice to obtain the BSN and work before embarking on an MSN. I really do believe that I want to practice as a midlevel, but can see the benefit in not biting off the accelerated program right off the bat.
  20. Hi all, I am new to the forum, though I have used this site quite a lot in the passed couple of months. As you may have guessed, I am interested in pursing a new career in nursing. I am feeling overwhelmed by the number of options and programs that seem to be available. I have been weighting the following options for myself: 1. Physician Assistant 2. Direct Entry to Practice (combined ABSN/MSN) to FNP, Acute or Nurse Anesthetist 3. ABSN, work for a period of time and then enter a graduate program. Some relevant details: 1. I have a PhD in Biology 2. I am in the process of taking the prerequisite courses that I never took (e.g. A&P, Development Psychology). 3. I am quite certain that I want to eventually practice as a mid-level provider. 4. Ideal start time for my program would be Fall 2015 or Winter 2016. I realize there is no right or wrong answer to my inquiry. I'm really looking for feedback from other students and professionals, maybe even some who have been in a similar situation, as to the pros and cons of certain paths. Many thanks!
