A vent and requesting advice on a classmate.
I don't have any advice to offer you. But I do want to comment that the approach and tools you have put in place so far seem very well thought out, and the role you have been forced into with this colleague is a great learning experience! This kind of leadership to keep someone on track might be a position you are in future.... For example what if you are a research project manager or lead investigator with student research assistants?? Anyways, you seem to be creative and good w leadership, you'll probably come up with something else that can help with the problem she's having!!!! Keep up the good work :)

unsafe new nurse
No one should be getting mad at you when you're a beginner, rather they should help you learn and not repeat the mistake. Seriously your preceptor has almost certainly made worse mistakes at a time later in her career with more years under her belt. You are a few weeks in. I like the reply from BrandonLPN: it's a teaching moment. You should learn from it, your trainer should take the opportunity to teach. The environment you're in is not supportive? Good luck, try to be a kind and supportive voice to yourself. Last week a nurse w ten+ years on my unit made a transcription error that could have killed the patient if a colleague on next shift had actually administered it. The other nurse caught the error. No one was mean to the senior nurse about it. There's a ton of mistakes you'll probably make once, and even when you are more experienced. Maybe your preceptor will make one in future, and you'll get to decide if you want to try to make her feel small in return or not.

How to Respond?
It sounds like just giving new staff a tough time for no good reason. The nurses on the next shift sound just rude, they way they are giving you lip. Just give a concise answer to any off topic questions or crappy comments. I like the idea of saying 'that's documented in the chart'. Sounds like code for 'please shut up and back off'. Change of shift today another nurse was giving me attitude about off topic things too, it's just about trying to constantly have one up on the newer nurses. good luck!!!!

Nasty Colleague
A senior nurse misrepresented something I said, told the manager something false. Result: I got called in and talked to about having an insubordinate attitude. Manager didn't believe me when I tried to refute my nasty colleague's claim. Feeling so angry and frustrated. What to do now?

Question to those who took both oiiq & crne
Hi there. It's kind of late for answering your question, but.... I recently wrote oiiq and I'm preparing for CRNE. I find they are a lot different and I suggest you look at CRNE or NCLEX prep materials rather than the book for OIIQ prep. Good luck! Great idea to get both even if you do pass oiiq.
